This is a bizzare feeling but I’m already getting the speed up and the fact I’m even able to sound 1% like Tosin Abasi is enough for me to know I can get to 5-10% of sounding like him. Exceptionally informative video!!!

Thank you for the lesson! Tell me, how much is compression or string gauge part of the sound? I fell like turning up my compressor adds more to the sound than 1h of practice. :-P Just kidding, I´m just wondering how to get those hammer ons as even as possible though out all strings. \m/

Question! What are the musical benefits of doing this with a pick instead of your fingers? I found the same effect could be achieved by plucking twice/thrice with either one finger or two alternating fingers and that's way easier for me than using a pick. Will there by some upper speed boundary I wouldn't encounter with a pick or would the pick give me a more consistent sound at those speeds? (I'm still slow, but consistent, and it sounds nice). I think it's worth learning just for the challenge but I was wondering if there were other benefits I didn't notice.
@gabriel_levi
@gabriel_levi 3 жыл бұрын
For one there's a clear difference in tone when using a pick vs fingers. I think the combination of fingers, pick & hammers from nowhere creates a unique mix of timbres that you wouldn't be able to achieve through fingers alone. I also think you'll have a difficult time with accuracy using fingers only at higher speeds. But if you can achieve the same effect using fingers only: more power to you!

Hammer ons from nowhere + selectively picked/plucked notes? I would argue most guitarists do not this, let alone create compositions based off of this specific approach. I also come from a background of playing professionally as opposed to just writing/listening to Prog, so in my experience no, most guitarists do not utilize this intuitively.
