Hey, this has helped clear up some questions I've been asking some self, but what if your thinking about creating a business name for grant purposes? It asks me for me for a business name and business email. I'm a content creator with a focus on advocacy for a specific disability. I use game streams to provide information on my own story, and videos on the usual social to spread information on the advocacy using make-up videos and geek talk. What would you recommend? Should I just update my email to a gmail account but use the same name? Or should I work on something that incorporates geek advocacy?

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:42 📋 Keep your creative brief concise, as the name implies. Lengthy briefs can become too complex. 01:10 🤔 Clearly explain the problem and goals you're trying to achieve in the project. 01:37 📢 Focus on one or two key messages in your brief to ensure they are remembered. 02:19 🎯 Describe what the finished product should look like to avoid constant changes. 03:01 📄 Clearly specify what is essential in the final product and what can be experimented with. 03:29 🚫 A brief should be descriptive, not prescriptive. Avoid being too specific and let the creative team use their expertise. 03:57 🙌 Collaborate with creatives to write the brief, as their expertise can prevent misunderstandings and misdirection. it was really hard to stick to a careeer to me, mostly because I like most careers. So I chose business administration so I can become a creative director because I like the combination of direction and numbers while I’m being creative. Wish me luck!

Hi, based on your experience, have you encountered or seen people that studied tech (UX/UI, web/app design, or a general degree in tech) and were able to use that and become a creative director later on?
@KaLokHo Жыл бұрын
I think that's a great foundation to become a CD. It's product design that focuses on a consumer-first approach, which for a CD I think is vital. I've seen people make significant career jumps that are totally different to what they've studied. Don't think what you study must determine the rest of your career. If you know what you want to do already, studying something that makes that path easier, of course helps. But personally, if I were to do it again, I'd just study whatever peaked my interest first, and then make my way to whatever it is I wanted to pursue. What you study is just a speck of time in the bigger picture. Career paths are weaving route.

This definitely describes me. Im a great communicator, a writer, artist, musician, etc. I do truly love the arts and creating. Im naturally empathetic and have a highly visual mind. Love listening to others and bouncing ideas. Also love business, directing, psychology and marketing. I truly believe this is a career option for me. My only knack is is job consistency and security. Do you have any opinions on how that goes?

Thanks for the video. Q: Do you think that a masters in a creative field or business school would be most relevant/ worth while for an aspiring CD?
@KaLokHo2 жыл бұрын
Almost certainly business in my opinion. A masters in creativity can't teach you how to be 'more creative', or have better technical proficiency in your craft - those things you improve outside of classes by doing more and discovering more, and improving your tastes. The benefit that it might have is connections to other creative peers. On the other hand a business masters degree you’ll learn what makes a business successful, how to run a business, how to market, promote etc. and then you can adapt your already creative mindset and craft around that. Which makes climbing the career ladder far easier. Also having peers in business will more likely land you a CD role, as they know you understand the business objectives but can also speak the language of creativity to a team. The biggest gap most creatives I know have in leap frogging in their career isn’t their creative ability, they have that in spades and their work is fantastic - but it’s their business acumen. That’s mostly the reason I lean more heavily towards a degree in business.

Hi Ka-Lok Ho, this was very helpful. I was just made a creative director of a b2b company and i must say it was unexpected. my bosses saw my passion and the potential in me and wanted me to give it a shot. My first project is on brand awareness and i will love to learn some things from you. Aside your KZbin video, do you have some courses etc?
@KaLokHo2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Congratulations on the role. I've always thought brand awareness is one of the more fun objectives. I don't have any courses, but I do offer 1:1 coaching. If you head to my site (kalokho .com) you can get in touch if that intrigues you and we can take it from there. Cheers!

1.Make the creative brief one page 2. explain the problem, why you are doing it, what are the goals of it. 3. Have only one or two key messages, to walk away with. 4. Explain what finished looks like. 5. What is essential? Anything important missing? What can be experimented with? 6. Its not a to-do list. 7. Try writing with the creatives.

The one question i'm left with, though, is what sort of prerequisite experience must one have in order to find such a position, and a well paying one at that.
@KaLokHo2 жыл бұрын
I've seen people from all walks of life become creative directors. From authors, marketers, designers, architects. I don't think there's a linear path. Those people I mentioned usually had lots of interests that they'd pursue in their own time and would create things, publish it, and network with the right people. But that's the real secret sauce to any career you want.
