This place is like the definition of 'beauty in simplicity'. I went to Cliffs of the Neuse, Jockey's Ridge, and Merchant's Millpond all on the same trip with it, Pettigrew was probably the most lacking in amenities (not even warm water in showers), but the place stuck with me by far. In fall, you'll hear the cryptic Tundra Swans arriving from Alaska and having a party on the lake. So many birds, so birding paradise. A desolate, flat farmland countryside extends outwards from the park; you can see 4 miles away. You're in the least-populated areas of North Carolina. Lowes Foods even named a trail mix after Bee Tree Trail (how I discovered the park's existence and travelled just to take a pic with the mix). I will definitely be going back, this place is surreal. Phelps is the second-largest lake in the state, while the largest is conveniently an hour away on the same Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula, but you don't have to leave Phelps for the migratory bird action!

I have seen a lot of videos about visiting the Canadian Rockies and this is by far the most informative and helpful. I’ll visiting in mid June. I’m just concerned if Mount Edith Cavell and Maligne Lake will be accessible since Jasper got wildfire last year. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Kings Canyon easily ranks in my top 5! It's largely uncrowded compared to Yosemite, but with amazing scenery, deep canyons, and giant Sequoias. I can't say enough about this N.P.!! So if I had to rank a top 5 list among the couple dozen or so I've been to: (1) Yellowstone, (2) Sequoia/Kings Canyon, (3) Bryce Canyon, (4) Zion, (5) Arches.

We are coming in December around Christmas and would like to hike to see water falls. What address should we type in coming from sugarlands visitor center since roaring fork motor trail will be closed for the winter?

Thanks for a great video! I just got back home from there this past monday. Sadly, we did not go on many hikes, but we went to Cades Cove, saw a bear close up, saw many elk too, I will be back!

How far are the access points from each other? I’m saying nearby and it’s saying they are like 3 hours away ???? Is this correct? I might be looking at two different parks with the same names ?? Let me know if you see this thank you !!

Supposedly you can see McKinley/Denali from the top of Flattop Mountain near Anchorage… but only when it’s clear out, which is basically never is.

Your next trip you should take Rte. 60 to Fayetteville, if coming from Charleston. Or Rte 16 to Rte 60 from Fayetteville. Beautiful scenery and drive that's missed too much because everyone tends to stay on the Interstate. For one, you'll see where the New River and the Gauley River dumps into the Kanawha River. There's also waterfalls and just a beautiful drive.
