The VW-VMS-10 difference test is user error, mid-side mics are not supported on the G9II. Having those 4 notch filters on the input is pretty bad though.

Can you please update your camera and check again? Apparently Panasonic fixed an issue that plagued writing a timecode signal through the 3.5mm jack in F/W 2.2, which might have fixed this issue. I'm interested in this camera but this would be a deal breaker.

I had a problem replicating this effect in Davinci Resolve, having a very similar issue as seen at 6:05 I use a color managed workflow: Color science: DaVinci YRGB Color Managed Color processing mode: HDR DaVinci Wide Gamut Intermediate. Output color space: Rec.709 Gamma 2.4 Switching to the standard settings fixed the issue I was having: Color science: DaVinci YRGB Color processing mode: Rec.709 (scene) Output color space: Same as Timeline

I assume the mic in and the inbuilt mic shares the same signal path. They probably corrected the sound to cancel out some interferences or the bad inbuilt mic itself. It is a quite ugly solution. Hopefully it is just a digital filtering, and they will fix it with a firmware update.

I got confused before. Thought it was the mic making comb filtering, but the camera?! Wow. That's some incredibly bad engineering... I'd say it might be some kind of interference between two inputs (camera mic and minijack mic) causing comb filtering, but yeah. Seems like they did something on purpose. Those frequencies don't even line up like normal comb filtering.
@-szega2 күн бұрын
Most reviewers don't seem to test audio quality at all on these, really only Gerald Undone comes to mind and he afaik doesn't get Lumix/Panasonic cameras for review any more.
@Wildridefilms2 күн бұрын
He got the GH7 for review but he rarely tests the 3.5mm jack on the camera. All of his audio testing was with the XLR2 adapter.

@1974UTuber2 күн бұрын
I wonder if they did that with hardware or firmware? Maybe someone will find a way to hack it and make it normal in the very near future. Thats a pretty low act on their part though as it definitely looks VERY deliberate.

These are several high order notch filters so it's going to be digital. Would be dozens of components per channel as an analog filter.

Thanks for the video! I was considering picking up this camera through the current trade-in deal that reduces the G9II’s price by 40%, but that audio issue seems like a headache. I wonder if the GH7 is impacted.

Zoom and af noises change from lens to lens. It might be for the ibs, but that usually makes an extremely high pitched noise.

@@TTPF_ Certainly not a simple first-order analog filter. At least there's hope it can be fixed with a firmware upgrade, unless Posy's theory is right and they did it on purpose.

Perhaps it is a bodge because some digital data signal was introducing some whine or noise into the analog mic preamp in the camera?
@-szega2 күн бұрын
Or the built-in mics have some weird response / resonance in these ranges that they're trying to notch out and you can save some components if the camera doesn't have to distinguish between the internal mics and the plug-in mic (by just using a switching jack).
