Pulling from the small joint is not great advice. Less power, your fingers will fatigue quicker, and you are pulling up on the string, which isn’t great for tone.

the gutiarist buckethead does it weird af in "soothsayer" and stretches it across like 7th to the 10th frets but this is way easier and quicker to grab many thanks

for finger style blues/folk the kickstand is fine. unless you're gonna be playing classical using the kickstand doesn't matter. i can play either way but the kickstand is nice when you're just playing on the couch and don't want to use "proper form" lol

Man, I recently found this out from another video like a month ago, and yes it's soo essential! I've had thumb/hand pain for yeeeears (one of the first tutorial videos I watched like 10yrs ago emphasized that you SHOULD focus the pressure on your thumb n it stuck in my head ever since lol- soo wish I never saw that) n I only started playing again like 2 months ago after taking a year break due to it (and I also only really play electric 99% of the time- I cannot imagine being an acoustic player and never finding out about it!). I COULD suffer through barre/more complex chords, but it was always just a matter of time before the pain would really set in n Id have to take a break for at least a day. I still do get some shoulder n wrist pain, but the thumb pain in specific is at least pretty much totally gone!
