I like that it takes AAAs. I don't like how much of those it takes. Indoor battery life is not impressive and outdoors (in Finland) it is abysmal.

Or use a t-square lined up with the truss and where you want your screws. Sometime repairing a metal building the trusses are bent and you will miss screws if you go perfectly straight.
@JohnDuPreez-r4z2 күн бұрын
Bud...tou dont assume that all is hunky dory up there on the roof...one almost always ends up having to steal a bit...that is why you have datum lines and to get perfect rows you use a good old chalk line....people have been doing this stuff for many wheels ..learn from them instead of trying yo reinvent the wheel...otherwise you are going to get into some embarassing situations...costly too.

As a roofer here's a pro tip for you. Put your screw in the valley that is left to the ridge. And also place your screw to the right of the ridge where it overlaps. Don't put your screw in the middle of the ridges. 🛠️🤠
@inthewebnotoftheweb16 күн бұрын
You don't screw it from the middle. You screw at the first flat before and after the ridge, or two per flat, not one in the center.

I’ve done 6 deer hides to completion and have several others in different stages. Every one is a learning experience. I really want to try hunting a bear in the future and tanning the hide is part of that. 😊

So with aviation snips you need two different kinds for cut direction, but I only see one kind of old school tin snips. Is there any disadvantage to just getting one pair of the old kind, if you mostly work with plastic and don't use them often?

Me and my son put a new roof on his house, and we worked out a system where one of us took a sixteen penny nail and punced a hole everywhere a screw was needed and the other just ran the screws in. We banged it out pretty quick.
@craigthornton81543 ай бұрын
Always smart to even keep all looking straight, although may not work whilst resheeting an older roof as purloins may not be aligned straight enough to keep the persistent line causing unnecessary holes. To stop the screw dancing around, keeping a hold on the washer whilst you put a fair bit of pressure to start off the hole, then it should be smooth sailing from there

We used a story pole to line up where the screws would go and marked it with a black marker then went back abd pre-drilled two pieces at a time (both tightly clamped together). Tip top layout. Less to do once it's up there where things are more awkward.

I love watching videos that people actually know what they’re doing like this guy he pre-drilled his metal roof sheets and he didn’t even do the stupid way. People would usually do it so either this guy is a good DIY or he is a great roofer for himself because usually people that I watch these videos, they decide to do the most stupidest way and do it in every single rib, instead of the flat part good job my guy

I would add that once you line up all sheets, you drill the first two holes on opposite sides and go ahead and run screws through them to hold them in place while drilling the rest of the holes. You wouldn’t want your sheets to wonder while drilling. Hope this helps :))

Hi, I am about to attempt on breaking a large rock with feather and wedges. I have the exact same hammer drill you are using in this video, the holes I will be drilling are 3/4”, should I get a 3/8” drill bit to start so it makes it easier for the 3/4”drill bit or just start by using only the 3/4” drill bit? Thanks the 3/4” sds plus drill bit I have is the Diablo demon, I have 2 of these

@justinhargett72225 ай бұрын
You're advice is good, we always pre drill the metal. Your fastener placement is way off. We use Everlast II corrugated metal and fastener placement is critical in the durability of the metal. The screws should be placed in the flat beside the overlapping rib and on the same side of each rib after that. A screw should also be placed on the overlapped side in the flat against the rib. This totals five screws per lathe. The metal we use comes with fastener placement instructions. Also, layout is very important when using the pre drilled method. Triple check your layout before drilling any holes.
@FourSonsOffGridHomestead5 ай бұрын
You are correct, my screw placement was in error. They should be in the valley next to the rib. This was my own bunk house that I was building as a weekend warrior. I have not made that mistake since. Your advice is good. Thanks

@FourSonsOffGridHomestead5 ай бұрын
@elise8917 I would assume the skin you bought is tanned. Smoking it will not remove the smell at all. The smell is a part of the skin and through time it will lessen. You can also hang it out in the sunlight for a bit but that's how real hides smell.

Makes it easier, but the metal shards that are shot out can embed on the sheet since they’re hot and can speed up corrosion. I’d probably still do it tho lol, I suck at stabilizing the drill on metal and will scratch it anyway
