Thank you! or your amazing review, I really appreciate that! I have been trying to decide between the two. I am in Idaho and I will be fishing some large rivers but also some highland lakes for trout and smallmouth. Originally, I was worried about the stability and tracking. However, at 5'7" and 145-pounds...with relativley good balance, based on your review I think I will go with the RVR 119.

Hey no problem at all. If I was in your shoes I would also go with the RVR. Make sure you check out my last video on the RVR that I did this past summer. It goes over all the changes I made to really hone it in after I had been fishing out of it for a year.

I cant verify 100% HECs works, but like you ive had a lot of instances with birds landing on me and deer not being near as jumpy. I only wear the Hecs top too. I was on the ground yest and had a 8 point walk to within 20yrds and he just looked at me. Never blew or ran off. He just slowly started walkin away
@BooneDownSouth6 күн бұрын
Yea I was on a 3 day hunt in KY this week and had two more instances where HECS could have been the reason the deer acted the way they did. The more I hunt with it and have deer encounters the more I am a believer that there is something to this suit.

Hi, for how long can you keep your crossbow cocked without any problem? Txs
@BooneDownSouth12 күн бұрын
Most modern crossbows are designed to be able to stay cocked for a full day of hunting. You really don't want to keep it cocked for longer than that because that can induce early stretching of the strings and cables which will affect the overall performance of the crossbow. Then there is always the safety factor. For me, I cock it when I am hunting and when I finish, I uncock it.

From a hunter in England. I would have been more impressed if you had been on the ground. I have had deer walk right by me with full camo on, and squirrels come down the same tree that I was sitting against. BUT! Having seen the videos of bears and cats ignoring hunters it must work in those scenarios. So I won't be needing HECS in the near future. Having said that; we have a lynx in Northumberland-spotted 2 weeks ago: will make a nice rug!
@BooneDownSouth12 күн бұрын
That video showed my first 2 hunts. I put out 2 more videos, one for each of the next two hunts, where I had experiences that could have been the result of the HECS suit as well. And I agree, anyone that has been hunting a long time has had deer up close and squirrels on the same tree and has experienced all these types of things, but the difference I am seeing is the frequency. I had 4 hunts in a row with experiences of deer spotting me but not spooking, including a momma doe that had another doe and 2 yearlings with her. We will see how the rest of the season goes, but I think there is something to it so far. Again, it is not a be all, end all kind of thing, but I do believe it gives you an extra edge based on my experiences so far. A lynx is a beautiful animal. I was able to get a bobcat years ago and it is in my office now mounted laying on a log. It looks pretty cool. Good luck on that lynx!

Yea I enjoy the crossbow. I think as long as a weapon is legal it should be up the individual to shoot whatever they want. All hunters just need to get along and accept the fact that it is different strokes for different folks. Besides it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks if you are doing it legally and ethically.

I couldn't shoot my bow last season due to a shoulder injury so I got a crossbow. Shot a pig and buck both under 25 yards. It didn't feel the same. Shoulder healed and I'm back to my compound. One cull buck so far. I don't know why I like the bow much better.
@BooneDownSouth14 күн бұрын
Yea I felt the same way in the beginning. But after awhile you get over that. This year I have shot 1 buck with my crossbow on my land and 1 buck with my rifle on public land. At this point, I am just as satisfied with any weapon. I even got the shakes on the one I shot with the rifle. Having said that, no matter what weapon I use, I always hunt close. But I used to love shooting my compound. Glad you headed up well. Keep at it!
@ammoiscurrency570615 күн бұрын
You can shoot a crossbow 200 yards and hit the kill zone on an elk fairly consistently. YOU SHOULD NEVER DO THIS THOUGH! Crossbow have an effective maximum range roughly the same as a compound bow
@BooneDownSouth14 күн бұрын
Absolutely correct! But in reality, I doubt most people could shoot a compound accurately in a hunting situation at even 80 yards. Bench rest shooting for sighting is so much different than from the tree stand or blind, and any mistakes in shooting form are not near as forgiving as a rifle.
@ammoiscurrency570614 күн бұрын
@BooneDownSouth I live out west and know a handful who can and do take game with compound bows at 70 and 80 yards regularly but the stars have to align for that kind of shot to be realistic to take. I know a lot of guys who do archery and very very few have any business shooting past 30 yard and certainly not 40 or 50. A crossbow CAN open up shots from 30 to 60 but as you said in the video. Most people should stick to a 30 limit unless they really learn their bow and shoot enough to know the hold for a 47 yard shot vs a 40 or 50.

@BooneDownSouth18 күн бұрын
Yep same here. Never killed one beyond 30 yards and most are 20 or less.
@jamesmartin728219 күн бұрын
Let me add #6... it's very risky to shoot beyond 40 yards. Not because xbows aren't accurate. Often you can get bullseyes out to 60 yards or farther. It's risky because deer start to duck and run at the shot and xbows are only about 25% faster than a compound bow. We've had 3 hunters take shots from 50-60 yards: 2 bucks were never recovered and the 3rd was recovered 15 hours later and the meat had spoiled.
@BooneDownSouth19 күн бұрын
Yep you are dead on there. People seem to forget that they really are NOT that much faster than most compound bows. Wel said!

Hey man, just saying thanks for the video. I have one question. When you start out at 20 yards, do you use the top pin or the 50-yard center pin?
@BooneDownSouth22 күн бұрын
So shoot 20 yards with the 20 yard pin. At this point you are really just trying to get windage correct and in the ballpark. Once you have the 20 yard pin set - you don't have to worry about windage anymore. Then move to the 50 yard center. Sight that in as you normally would at 50 yards by adjusting the elevation on the scope. Once that is dialed in, your 20 yard will be off again and that's okay. Now move back to 20 yards, but from this point forward do not touch the windage or elevation scope adjustments. Make you adjustment to get 20 yards back on again with the zoom ring. Once you have 20 yards dialed using the zoom ring, you should have everything till at least 70 yards or so dialed in.

What would you recommend for someone who already owns this and wants to upgrade to a better model? great review man, straight to the point!
@BooneDownSouth22 күн бұрын
To start off I don't know. It would depend what features you want. For instance I like an integrated crank which the Amped 425 does not have. Do you want something lighter, narrower, do you want the ability to de-cock without shooting an arrow? How well does it feel in your hands? Those are the kinds of things you want to ask yourself. It really comes down to features at this point because you already have a crossbow that works well. There are just a lot of good models out there across brands and they will all do the job. Whenever I decide to upgrade from my Wicked Ridge M-370, I would be partial towards TenPoint or Wicked Ridge (owned by TenPoint), because my Wicked Ridge has done very well for me and their customer support has been great.

I pull 70lbs, can shoot my compound consistently at 60yards. But the target buck is always 80-150 yards away. Should I just try to relocate my spot or can a cross bow kill in the 80-100 yard range
@BooneDownSouth24 күн бұрын
I would definitely relocate. I always set up my shots at 30 yards or less. The crossbow can definitely shoot that far, BUT, there are several factors that would make me say to never shoot that far. When hunting with a blade you always want a pass through shot - entry and exit hole. You may kill a deer with only an entrance hole, but you may not be able to track that deer due to lack of a good blood trail and basically the deer just runs off and dies and you don't find until the buzzards do. In order to get a pass through shot you need 2 things. 1) good shot placement 2) enough kinetic energy in the arrow to push through the animal. The arrow loses kinetic energy as it flies and at those distance there is just too much loss. When deer hear the shot, their first reaction is to take off, but what happens in slow motion is that the entire deer's body drops, so it can take that first leap out of their. Anything beyond 30 yards and the chance of that deer dropping low enough for your well aimed shot to go over the back of that deer increases. Yes they do drop that much for that leap. Also at those long distances, you just can't see branches, vines, twigs that might be in the flight path. The flight path of a bullet travelling at 2000fps is pretty darn straight compared to an arrow which starts out at 350fps. The arrow has a huge arc. Even with the fastest crossbows on the market, that arc is huge at just 60 yards. It takes a little more effort but learning how to hunt up close will make you a better hunter as well as add more excitement to your hunt. Good luck on getting your target buck this year!
@deafsmith100625 күн бұрын
Heck man... I hunt deer with a pistol (10mm) and I have to wait till I have a good shot at close range. Yea with a rifle sighted in at 250 yards if I see it... I can kill it. Sucking them in close is far far harder! Now I have recurve and cross bow (first deer hunt with crossbow is coming up in a few weeks) and the crossbow is far more DANGERIOUS TO PACK than a 1911 10mm!!! Yes I have to be far more carful I don't get hurt bad.. but it is not impossible. Just means I have to think a bit more on bow manipulation than I have to do with a 1911 (I just sit in stand with the thumb safety off but grip safety 'on' (that is I don't touch the grip.. I hold it in my left hand!) Accurate effective range with the 10mm is just about the same with the crossbow!
@BooneDownSouth25 күн бұрын
Yea I understand how you feel that the crossbow is way more dangerous. You can hurt yourself without even being on the business end if you are not careful. Also, familiarity plays a factor. I am sure you are very comfortable with your 1911 and have a routine like you mentioned. Once you hunt with the crossbow enough you will get a comfort level and a routine, but like any weapon you have to respect it. I have never tried to hunt with a pistol - for me it would probably limit me to 10 yards if I did that ;) I am not a great shot with one! Good luck crossbow hunting this season!
