Storm Bert has caused so much destruction to the railways including railway lines flooded especially at Northampton. And more heavy rain is forecast.

Nice to see the East Kilbride line getting the upgrade and to be electrified so that ScotRail can start using their Class 380 EMUs to East Kilbride. Why not electrify the rest of the Glasgow South Western line all the way down to Kilmarnock and Dumfries. And to electrify the Stranraer line from Ayr to Stranraer so that Class 385s can operate to Stranraer from Glasgow Central.

Would be good to know more about the whole project - can't seem to find many details anywhere which is a shame! Would be nice to know if freight trains will continue to crawl under the north end of the station at 10mph or go a bit faster, for example.

The Independent Lines will be returned to 25 mph once renewals work is all done. There are a couple of presentations on the projects in Crewe on the Permanent Way Institution’s channel (the PWI). There’s one called “All Change At Crewe” from 3 years ago about the overall Crewe Hub program, which has a segment on the Independent Lines from about 10 minutes to 13 minutes in; there is also a long-winded presentation about the associated drainage project titled “How to solve a problem like Crewe?”, though that doesn’t include much about the overall project.

If she uses the crossing every day, what was so different about that day?. Being distracted is no excuse, at least she is sorry and admits her mistake. I hope she had to say sorry to the train driver as well. This video should be shown in school assemblies all over the UK, every single school regardless of proximity to a railway line. You wouldn't walk out into a busy road without stopping, looking and listening, so why do it on a railway line?.

Left UK in 1963. Went back, first time, in 2005. I couldn’t believe the North Downs line wasn’t electrified from Reigate to Shalford Junction. And Wokingham to Aldershot South Junction not added to enable third rail trains Reading to Gatwick Airport! Also think the Marshland Line would be 3rd rail.
@Andrewjg_8913 күн бұрын
I do understand about engineering works and our railways always needs improvements. And lots of disruptions to rail services that causes lots of problems for commuters and tourists. And with more new trains coming into service.
@Andrewjg_8913 күн бұрын
As this is about the Southern region. Do you think that electrification on the Uckfield Line and Marshlink Line could still happen. And a new flyover or underpass at Woking to be built to allow trains coming from Portsmouth Harbour and Guildford to cross over or under the South Western main line.
@neilstrains14 күн бұрын
Missed the part of this video that explains why the frequency of the replacement bus services do not match the frequency of the trains. We get that you need to do engineering work. But why, for instance is there zero directional signage at Guildford when the line terminates there to show us where to go for the buses? Which is confusing for someone unfamiliar with the line or the station. I've seen more than one person tripping over the poorly lit kerbs in the car park trying to get to a bus in time. Why do you keep the barriers closed, even though all the trains are piling off their entire loads, causing dangerous overcrowding on the platform? (got some fun videos to share showing this) Why does South Western Railway run buses on Motorway speed roads with no seat belts? Why are the buses sent off before anyone would has a chance from the unloaded train to reach them (see barrier problems above) Why does "the industry" charge full fare when the journey time is trebled? Can you see how it looks like you're "working with your industry partners" to help them increase the profit margin to their shareholders during the shutdowns? That's why we're fed up with engineering work - it's not because of the engineering work, which seems to be the premise of this video. Thanks for palming us off with "check with your operator" because, you know, it's our job to fund their bonuses.
@KingFinnch13 күн бұрын
only addressing two of these here, but busses operating on motorways with no seatbelts is extremely common, also, all of these operators will be government run in a couple years, so they really don't care about making the rails better, they'd much rather charge everyone a million quid then quit after bleeding the system dry
@DanLoudShirts13 күн бұрын
That's up to the station and train operators, not Network Rail. If you want a pop at someone, go to SWR.

Network rail maintain the infrastructure , not the trains, that's the operators responsibility.

Maybe Network Rail haven't noticed that more people use the railways on public holidays than workdays these days, so they should have changed their plans.
@frenchdave6913 күн бұрын
Are you sure about that? Or is it just something that you 'reckon'? As for track work over Christmas. *Loads* of people take time off between Christmas and New Year, so that seems the perfect time to do maintenance and upgrades.
@Poliss9512 күн бұрын
@@frenchdave69 Yes I'm sure. This is straight from a Network Rail statement: The Future is Off-Peak: 'However, there have been recent major challenges to this, with worldwide experience being far fewer passengers in the traditional weekday peaks, caused by working from home remaining normalised following the pandemic.' 'Some current rail industry planning processes can lead to off-peak growth opportunities not being fully realised.' I'd give you the l-i-n-k but KZbin eats them.
@frenchdave6911 күн бұрын
@@Poliss95 Ah, so you think 'off-peak' is the same as 'public holidays'? They are very different.
@Poliss9510 күн бұрын
@@frenchdave69 I see you missed the important point. 'far fewer passengers in the traditional weekday peaks'. The article goes on to say 'Rethinking engineering work, for example closing lines midweek rather than on busy weekends is now undertaken as routine in many areas, with substantial benefits.' Of course there will be fewer passengers on public holidays because the planners close the bloody railways every time there is one.
@Poliss9510 күн бұрын
@@frenchdave69 Listen to the travel reports every Xmas. They'll tell you that the motorways will have extremely heavy traffic because millions want to go home to see their families. They'll say it's the busiest time of the year on the roads. A lot of those people would travel by train but they won't be able to because of engineering works have closed the railways. Adding to pollution when we should be reducing it.
