Do you think it'll hold up over time without the upper bracket attachment to the bumper? I prefer the cleaner look, no drilling holes and bolts rusting. Maybe welding extra steel plates on the bottom bracket to beef it up?

Humboldt native here, We used to hunt that back in the 1970's. We would spot them from the beach and then make a stalk. It looks like those days are gone. Steep country.

Yeah ive heard many of stories from the old timers about the good ole days out there. Sounds like the coyotes are the main issue taking out all the fawns

Cool to see someone local making hunting videos. I’ve only hunted that area a couple times I go inland more I hate the fog lol. Good luck in the future. Also i recognized your truck around sick set up man.
@redwoodchronicles28 күн бұрын
Thanks yeah if seems the inland option is a much higher success rate. Spent a few days out that way as well with no luck this season either unfortunately. But its never a bad day when you get to enjoy this beautiful place were lucky enough to call home 🤙🏻
@user-ii6yc9sk7o28 күн бұрын
Sick video dude, do you need a permit to hunt this area or is it a otc tag?
@redwoodchronicles28 күн бұрын
Thanks and just a tag and license to hunt. But you do need a wilderness permit from blm to be out there.

Was this hunt during deer season...or just anytime?
@redwoodchronicles27 күн бұрын
This was during deer season. You can hike it year round though.
@doneast677728 күн бұрын
You'll find blacktail deer in the brush line, very rarely venture into open fields. They eat blackberry new growth, some say they also eat poison oak. They live in that fog. Lots of bears in Northern California. Long standing Pope and Young Blackbear was a 23+ inch bear from Mendocino County until 2019.
@redwoodchronicles28 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tips. And yeah we have a bear in the neighbor hood that causes a ruckus every week haha biggest bear ive ever seen was down on the MNF. Was a while ago but it was huge. Some say there are grizz down there as well.
@doneast677728 күн бұрын
@@redwoodchronicles I doubt that there are any grizzlies left in California, other than the one on California's flag. But, with a user name like yours's, you know that anywhere in California north of Sonoma County is near or part of a National Forest, so anything is possible. The last time I got a California bear tag, the state drew a line across the state Mendocino, Lake County, was the southernmost county for bear hunting, closed south of there.
@redwoodchronicles28 күн бұрын
Yeah when we saw the one down in mendo i didnt know much about bears to be able to tell them apart. But if it was a black bear it was the biggest one ive ever seen by a long shot. And ive talked to a couple guys up this way that actually hunt bear that swear there are still a few around. Or that have come back. But who knows. Theres so much uncharted land up here big foot could still be cruisin around 🤣
@doneast677727 күн бұрын
@@redwoodchronicles Black bears can get pretty big, that new Pope and Young record weighed near 700 pounds. Last one I saw down in Mendocino Co. was bigger than the mountain bike I was riding, both longer and taller than the bike! Was easily twice my size, and I'm 200lbs. Any bear that lives within salmon/steelhead runs can get that big. Quickest way to tell griz from blackie is the grizzly has a flat face, straight line from nose to top of head, black bear has a dog like head, forehead stops nose below.
@redwoodchronicles27 күн бұрын
Nice yeah the one we saw looked like a clydesdale horse at 150 yards haha
@kevinsnider149329 күн бұрын
Nice video! Where about is this area without blowing up your spot? First time seeing a black bear on the coast, I am curious about the population there. Thanks,for sharing this video and best of luck to you in the future!
@redwoodchronicles29 күн бұрын
Thanks glad you enjoyed it. And this is on the lost coast trail in northern california. Not very many access points and the country is about as steep as it gets and you gotta hike a bit just to get to halfway decent hunting haha but it is beautiful. Truth be told there are way better places to have success hunting here but its hard to beat hunting the coast like this. Theres a fair bit of bear all over up here. I dont know that the costal bears would be the best eating though. Id imagine they’re diet includes a lot of rotting fish and seals haha

Did ya like the shaker today? After the 3-6s in 92 they weren't fun anymore...left in 2013, another five years you probably wont be able to fish the jettys.... I used to cross the bar after salmon and Pacific halibut....but i hear thats screwed up now as well.... I grew up fishing the van duzen.
@redwoodchroniclesАй бұрын
I was a actually out of town for work. But it wasnt to bad from what i heard. The one in rio dell a year or so ago was waaaay worse. Halibut are still doing good but salmon has been shut down the last three years. 🤞🏻 the klamath project works and the fish come back!!

That's a nice dog house you built. Have you thought about putting insulation in the walls? I purchased a dog house for my pittie but walls are so thin. It's supposedly insulated but it's not enough to keep it warm in the winter. So I insulated it with foam and added another interior plywood wall which makes it more sturdy also.
@redwoodchroniclesАй бұрын
We talked about fully finishing it but we have a thermostat and heater and are able to keep it plenty warm. It doesn’t get much bellow 30 ever where we live. Which truth be told half the time we check the cameras to see what they’re up to they’re outside enjoying the cold haha

I am all for protecting hidden trails and keeping hidden trails hidden. Which is why you’ll never see me post locations of these hidden trails But for trails like this that are the main public trails of an area. It’s kind of important that they get ridden and known. The money that comes into the community not only supports local bike shops and the clubs that build the trails but also shows the politicians that approve the land use agreements a reason to keep approving new riding zones and using tax payer dollars to fund more trail builds. Just my opinion though 🤷🏻♂️
