I have decided it's a fool's errand to try to decide whether Sekiro or Bloodborne is my 'favurite'. I guess I was more immersed in the world of Bloodborne but have never been compelled to replay it.

Completely disagree with your take on the consumables. Many of them are the difference between dying 1k times or 1 time with certain enemy encounters.

I did the fragrant stone first and entirely skipped the double ape fight. I also did the first snake encounter strangely by just sprinting dodging and healing so I didn’t take its eye out. 😂😂😂

There is a bit of wrong information in this video at times. Understandable because even some pretty hardcore fans get some of this wrong. Considering you have not played this game for a long time before this video I wouldn't expect you to get all of this right and all of these are small details. Some examples are the following. There are very obviously more than 4 types of perilious attacks although most broadly fit into those 4. You mentioned Thrusts, Sweeps, Grabs and Lightning attacks. So what is the monkeys scream or Genichiro's short jump downward "thrust" or the Serpent attacks? Also some perilious attacks can be multiple of those 4 types like the Ape's sweeping grab. The game does explain the link between vitality and posture (just not very well). You can deal with the Chained Ogre's grabs without dodging. The Umbrella allows you to deflect them. This one is debatable because obviously for that specific chained ogre you can't have the umbrella in NG. The brown Ape in the Headless Ape duo fight does not really have the moveset of the Guardian Ape. It has a couple moves of the Guardian Ape. And its AI is 100% determined by what you and the Headless Ape do. It is not really an independent enemy and acts more like an extension of the Headless Ape moveset. Fight still sucks though. Additionally it is pretty fun to see people that play / replay Sekiro after Elden Ring using the jump attack so much when it sucks in this game. When you jump and attack mid-air you do two very quick attacks. This may look nice, but both of these attacks do very little damage. I don't know for certain if people do this because of Elden Ring's great jump attacks, but I assume it to be the case. Never noticed it as much before ER. Edit: Regarding "One Mind". Without some sophisticated use of "techs" like deflecting the first two attacks with a single deflect by using a sprint deflect this attack is completely impossible to fully deflect with just a sword. Essentially if you repeat deflects in less than 0.3 seconds (I think that's the number, might be somewhere around there) your next deflect input will have less deflect frames. The 4th stage of this has no deflect frames. The attacks of "One Mind" come fast enough and there are enough of them that you have to reach the 4th stage and you can't deflect one of the attacks anymore. This makes it impossible to deflect conventionally by sword. There is at least one other attack that is also undeflectable like that from the Nightjars. Genichiro's floating passage is almost impossible to fully deflect for the same reason, but this one is actually theoretically possible without any techs. It's just so inconsistent that pretty much nobody does it.

I remember never being able to properly kill the Demon of Hatred. I had to always cheese him by having his pathfinding run him off a cliff. After a few years of not really playing Sekiro (the disc drive on my Xbox broke) I picked it back up about a month ago to stream to my girlfriend. I hyped up the Demon of Hatred, told her how I had never beat him in a fair fight, and how it was optional. She insisted on at least seeing the fight, so I went into the arena, prepared to die, and actually beat him first try! Five years of fearing that fight, and all at once it just fell into my lap

When this came out I got to the point t where my two paths were the butterfly fight or genichiro. I'd hit a wall and died 100s pf times and left the game lying for about 4 months. I was gutted cos dark souls saved my life. I went back to it and during genichiro, I died 20 plus times and all of a sudden.... the cliche happened. It clicked. Now those two bosses are the easiest to me. Got the platinum, and it's my top fromsoft game even with elden ring on the table.

I'm guessing most viewers are watching cos they love sekiro... BUT if not amd you you still have trouble timing mikiri there's a way to guarantee you'll catch it. You dodge into the thrust literally as the kanji goes transparent. As soon as you see it fade you counter.

With the disclaimer that I'm not trying to sound like a tool......................I figured out the Dragon's Return ending in my first playthrough in 2019. I read everything, and between the Divine child, the weird old ladies, and being stuck, forcing a lot of back and forth, the path is there. I think the ONLY reason this happened, is because I already had years of experience with having to glean every morsle of lore out of Fromsoft games, by reading every single item. I also learned early that they wouldn't have put the ability to evesdrop in the game if it wasn't important for lore...and it turned out to be that, and also important for game progression...which lead me to discover the Purification ending as well organically. The only "luck" piece, was, I had given rice to two of the ladies, and I just happened to use a rice in a boss fight, otherwise I don't know if I ever would have triggered the Divine Child getting sick. But ya, I had all the snake hearts AND the Sakura flower from Hirata Owl at the same time, so I got to pick from Return or Purification in my first playthrough. I agree that most players wouldn't get there without a guide...especially Fromsoft virgins

I always felt Sekiro was a great game, but a poor souls game. Souls games really are defined by your approach your build your choices and of course its unique style of world building. If you beat plat sekiro like me than you beat sekiro the exact same way I did. The same way everyone else did. There is only the one right choice. You will be a weeb parry god and the game isn't designed with enough depth to accomadate other approaches. So to be Sekiro is the worst of the souls games, but you should not include it in that category. Sekiro is a tightly designed combat experience with a equally tightly designed story to tell. If you put it into the souls series thus judging by the souls games strengths yes it will look bad. However, Simply going in with the mindset this is it's own thing and not expecting something else really lets you enjoy what is on offer.

Actually half of the 12 knights survive, not 4 as you stated. 2 leave the order, to become common men, the remaining 4 found the Nobel houses. Thus is why the bloodline flows between all people's both high born and low, a secret kept from the citizen descendents. One of the 2 who left puts down his sword and even states that he will open an ale house and serve the common man.

Really wish they made an expansion for Sekiro. I actually really like that the story is (mostly) wrapped up in the base game and as much as I'd like more Sekiro content I think it's best that the game remains a standalone title. An expansion that added boss fights for the remaining Spears of Ashina, follow up for Kingfisher, maybe some additional background for Owl's plot, and of course closure for the "true ending" would've been perfect imo.

I’ve played all the Souls games since Demons Souls and finished them all multiple times. I was hotly anticipating Sekiro but just could not get past the mid game Genshiro fight. I gave up and 5 years later picked it back up and just got good… after hours and hours of trial and error. I finally beat the game today. Finally beating Isshin the sword saint was one of the biggest adrenaline dumps I’ve ever experienced in my 30 years of gaming!

I disagree with the pacing issues of the Demon of Hatred. I fought him yesterday for the first time and just staying on him at all times made the fight fast paced and a blast. It does require more running than most fights but not away, just under him. My tip for having a blast fighting him is running to the right under him, jumping over his dragging attack and using the shield with the fire upgrade to handle his jumping high in the air attack. I could essentially just keep hitting him. He's much more a vitality focused boss compared to posture. The difference is greatly felt when fighting him then going for the end game boss which is almost entirely posture based.

I wish they went the Sekrio route with Elden ring. It really needed it's own combat style while still being the same soullike genre. The more I play it the more I appreciate Sekiro. It's definitely my #3 FromSoft game after Demon's souls and Dark Souls. Beating out Bloodbourne is no small feat.

Excellent retrospective. Personally, after a while I just stopped going for the Isshin ending cause I couldn't bear fighting nasty stepdad one more freaking time. Sure, I got a lot of trouble with Genichiro the first time around, or DoH most times, but after several playthroughs I just could not bear another fight with Owl father as I find it simply too boring and begin to develop malaria as soon as I get down those stairs. True fact.

I feel like Sekiro doesn't get enough credit for its amazing animations. The way that deflections into deathblows chain together in particular is impressive. Especially considering even most basic enemies have unique animations for deathblows depending on if it was a deflection, mikiri counter, or attack that put them into deathblow. It also amazes me how fast From Software puts these games out. In a span of 4 years, we got Sekiro, Elden Ring, and Armored Core 6. All masterpieces in my humble opinion. Truly impressive

i might be glazing here a little bit but i don't understand the fromsoft camera complains everybody seems to have with these games like what do yall want the camera to do when youre stuck in some corner like where should it go?? im not saying it couldnt be better.. also so many of these issues are resolved by just unlocking the cam and like repositioning.. like id even say the camera in that ape fight example is kind of acting uhh im looking for a word here that basically means the mechanic of the game is congruent with the situation in the game like how the silent in slay the spire has like shiv cards that you get a bunch of sometimes and you get to play them really fast one after another and it mimicks the fantasy of being an assassin and throwing a bunch of knives at an enemy its like that. ) but yeah sure there are times where the camera is fucky but still its something u can manipulate idk im just not sold on the terrible camera fromsoft games narrative not saying it couldnt be better though

Rant This and all From Soft Games are not hard. We are machines made to solve and beat these games because they are all essentially pattern recognition, it's what we're designed to do. Like of course no one can beat any of these games deathless on their first try but everyone can see and recognize whatever 20 - 50 moves any of these bosses have and react accordingly given enough time. What prevents people from actually beating these games is regulating their emotions in face of a defeat and not liking the fantasy of these games enough to bother. Like of course they are difficult in the sense that you have to be able to regulate your emotions (like u just got to develop a ok cool go next attitude) + actually be alert + be open to change and explore your options. It just frustrates me when people don't bother with these games bc they are some of the greatest pieces of entertainment in human history and they are more worth experiencing than like 99% of games out there. They are not difficult enough to not bother is my point and so many people seem to believe that.. ok this was a waste of my time i think idc POST
