Thank you for your candour. Practical =/= mercenary. It's advocating for your children to ensure you have the resources you need to provide the care they require.

Thank you for your videos. We’ve just started the adoption process so these are really informative. Are your sons in therapy? Do social workers ever recommend that for young children? X

They have had many years of an art therapy type format when they were younger. Yes, sometimes it is suggested, but you would likely have to apply for funding.

Lovely to hear your story from the beginning 😊 It's good to hear from British Christians who have adopted - most faith-based adoption advice comes from America and doesn’t quite fit with the UK culture. I was very interested in the part about primary to secondary transition. I’ve seen it play out time and time again in the Residential context - children thrive in small, pastoral primary schools, then they are chucked into a massive Comp at 11 and it destroys them. I think the traditional Prep schools have the right idea - children stay in prep until they are 13, and then go to senior school. But this option is only available to the privileged few!! Thanks for your channel 🤗🤗

Here is London/Essex we have a group of therapeutic schools called ‘Octavia House Schools’. The work they do there surrounding childhood trauma is fantastic. It’s a shame that not more children, like your boys, can access support like that

I don’t agree with the telling everyone at the beginning. It’s such a lengthy process and you don’t want to get put off at the early stage because one person said they don’t agree with you becoming an adopter. You know yourself best. Boundaries are really important and more so during and after the adoption process. Others can be cut off - if anyone has an issue then clearly they are not a part of your support system in the first place.

Have you had a situation where someone tried to put you off early in the process? I hold fast to being as open as possible with your loved ones so that they can be supportive or raise concerns. But thank you for sharing your ideas

I have a 12 & 14yo so we are considering adopting a teen. We’ve already been through the middle school dynamics once and feel comfortable with older children. I feel like building a connection with an older child is different from younger kids because trust/love is built over time and with older kids there’s often a feeling of wanting to rush the process because they are older

My husband and I were unable to have a family so we fostered and that was really good...then a little girl came along whi had suffered a lot of trauma...attachment issues were huge...we were totally unprepared especially for the constant testing...on reflection there are things we could have done differently after 4 years we could take no more and felt it waz unhealthy for everyone...the placement ended...only people who have been in this Situation understand the intensity and the impact of this behaviour

@Flylittlebirds Thank you! It's exciting but also a bit scaring. I started watching videos about adopting toddlers here on KZbin and realized that a lot of information wasn't presented at our course for adoptive parents. And I am praying to God for help to navigate this new situation. We already have a biological daughter. So my husband and I have experience with children. But still... 🙏🙏🙏🙏

@@Flylittlebirds Helping them adjust to a new school (middle & high school dynamics are much more complex than elementary level), handling technology (social media, internet, cell phones, etc), building relationships with teens (I have a 12 & 14 yo bio kids but I’ve had 12/14 years to build those connections), fostering/guiding to independence (my state requires older kids be taught daily living skills), learning to drive, college/career planning, puberty, transitioning to adulthood, etc. I think a lot of people are intimidated by teens. I’m less so since I have children & nieces/nephews in that age group, but helping a new/relatively unknown teenager adjust and succeed takes a different approach than younger kids. I’m an information gatherer so I’m always looking for the advice & experiences of knowledgeable folks to prepare
