Nick, Great video very informative. Enjoy your ch. The rims on the Bell brass ...wow!

Many thanks, @moondrums ! Rims on that drum are unreal for sure - heavy, too. Appreciate you taking the time to watch the video, and leave a comment. Thank you!🙏🏼

Got it right! I knew the first one is the bric because the bronze on the second drum revealed a ping usually associated with metal drums. Wood pings too, but the bric was unusually quiet. 🎉

Agreed! Same answer.

Good ear, @boinknook ! I agree with you, the bronze really starts to show it's true sound tuning 2 and 3.

Well the Brick had some ringing as well. I think the moral of the story is that these sounded way too similar.

All the pressure is on you now though Al. If this idea flops, people will never let you live it down! They will point fingers and laugh. This will be the "Capones vault" of the KZbin Drummers world! 🤣😂😜

It was a great idea, Al! I really appreciated it, and that you're always coming by to check out the content. Thank you, Thank you!🥁

I got the three tunings right, I relied on the overtones, obviously the BB having a more metallic sound, however, it was more difficult than I expected. And yes, you are right, those drums are HEAVY, I have a Gretsch BB 14” x 6.5”, which weighs approximately 8 kg, not fun to lug around. Great video, Nick!

Harder than I thought!

Pretty wild, right?! Did you have a preference?

I thought I'd be able to pick that off in two seconds. It was a lot harder than I thought.

The BRIC👍👍 Cuts through better, clearer.

It’s a great drum that’s often overlooked!

the low tunings were the hardest to discern, once medium and high tunings kicked in it came super easy. that metal shell ring is just more obvious at those tunings. now do one where its brass vs. bronze vs. aluminum vs. steel vs. copper and see if we can pick em out.

Totally - both have unique sounds, and that bronze shell has a unique bite to it. That's a fantastic idea! The most epic blind metal snare drum test

I got this one right, that pop is what I would expect from the bronze shell/hoop combo. I wonder if that sound can be found in a wood snare, maybe something like a stave still of very dense wood, brady? could do it. I also really like the Remo CS, really does what its says and controls the harmonics over a standard coated ambassador.

How about next saturday, you pic one snares and change between those deluth hoops, dicast hoops, triple flanged and wood hoops. A can we hear the hoop difference video?
@NickCostaMusic10 күн бұрын
Totally - it's a unique sound. Possibly a jarrah block could get a similar, but I still think it would be slightly different. I think the bronze will still have that metal overtone.

That's a concept I've been sitting on - showing how hoops affect the sound of a snare. Make it a reoccurring video and go through all the popular snares in the collection. It will happen at some point, promise!

Love the videos! But I truly think the key sound to a snare drum is the head, the hoops, lug count, and the tuning.

But I did guess this correctly! 😁

All definitely make a difference for sure!

Nice…but I would like for you to do a video on these same snares…but with a Remo Power stroke…its in my opinion the best heads Remo has ever come up with…
@NickCostaMusic10 күн бұрын
It's a great head for sure! Do you prefer the standard coated pinstripe, or the one with the CS dot in the middle?
@allanmailer45404 күн бұрын
Easier to pick out the higher the tuning got. I did guess right and I think my personal preference would be for the Bronze shell. The brick on a low tuning was giving off a big old slack sound that reminded me a bit of Out of the Blue era ELO, the high tuning on the bronze gave me Stewart Copeland vibes. Both snares have a great sound but maybe a bit too deep for my older self.....my younger self would have bitten your hand off for one.

The epic brick wins again!

It has a great sound for the price for sure! What made that one the winner for you?

I was able to guess it .

I was 1 for 3! Horrible guessing. I guess I am not that familiar with the sound of Bell Bronze! I was shocked how similar they sound though!!
@NickCostaMusic10 күн бұрын
I was too - especially the 1st and 3rd tuning. I think the 2nd is the most drastic difference between the two - even if it was subtle.
