This is how I know Neil is about attention to details, he used the grade stick to get the correct amount topsoil off for the culvert pipe.... I have yet to see anyone else so do that!

Awesome video, a bit late yes.. But I've watched this video some year ago, and just got back to it when searching for ideas on building my own sprayer. Was just wondering, what chemical are you using to target only clover and dandelions? I'm sure nothing like it exists here in Sweden. Thanks for a great video!

Why do you say tile instead of pipe?
@digdrivediy
@digdrivediy Күн бұрын
It's somewhat of a regional thing but all the old pipe in the grows made of clay, just like clay roof tiles. All the old timers call it tile. Drainage tile. We all still call it tile. If it goes in the field it's tile. Google it up and you'll see what I mean :)

My first time driving a standard I was 16 and got a job (1973) driving uhaul trucks from denver to kansas. The uhaul dealer was half way up a hill and there was a traffic light that you had to stop at on the hill. I knew the theory about clutches and shifting but had never done it. You learn real fast when a 24 ft. truck is starting to roll backwards. I don't remember anyone asking me if I knew how to drive a standard before giving me the keys and sending me on my way. My daily driver today is a 1980 ford truck a standard with the shifter on the column so maybe even more theft proof.

It would seem that instead of going to the herculean measures of installing your own mini storm drain system, it would have been easier to slop the entire road system significantly towards the field, because that is where all the water is going anyway. It appears that the slope of the gravel roads in this area is too flat. Also, what professional drainage contractors do is slope all surfaces to one line and then install a perforated pipe with a slope of a strong 1/4" per foot in gravel and covered with a geo-tech fabric that protects the holes in the pipe from getting clogged with mud. If drainage is and issue, you could have installed part of the pipe with a 3/8" slope and transitioned to a 1/4" slope. While this requires a little more work, it would have been a much more effective and long-lasting solution. These types of systems work extremely well, and they use the entire length of the pipe to collect water.

We were just repairing a structure that was already in place. We are aware that in some places surface drainage is more readily available and easy to install. We don't have the elevation to do such things. We're talking inches of fall over hundreds of feet, so we have to go subterranean on many drain structures in order to make them work. You can't slope a road to somewhere when there is no slope! :) Around here you'll find that if you build something up to create artificial slope, it will also function as a dam!

@@digdrivediy That's interesting. I would suggest that you use what professional drainage contractors use in your situation since you have said that you cannot change the grade of the parking lot. Their system is very simple to install, and it works. Install two to three 4" - 6" perforated pipes at the low existing low areas of the parking/road area. Use a slope of approximately 3./8" per foot for the first 50' or so and then transition to 1/4" per foot. In my opinion it is better to have too much slope rather than too little. Cover the pipe with with a geo-tech fabric made for drainage systems that lets water through but filters out mud and dirt. cover that with gravel. I think the drainage contractors use a specific size of gravel that filters out the mud and dirt - find out that sieve size that they use. You need about 1.0' - 1.5'' of gravel over the geo-tech fabric. Slope the areas to these pipes and they will efficiently drain the water from your parking area, even in heavy, pro-longed storms, so long as the area you are draining to can absorb the water runoff. I hope that this helps. Your current system still may not be sufficient to drain your parking/road area because it tries to direct all of the water to a catch basin. So it may fail.

I'm currently 28yo I'm the only one of all my friends that currently drives a stick, when I worked at a dealership it was insane to see the technicians that were my age that had to have the shop Forman move the car into their bay, you would think it's would be a requirement for employment at a dealer but it isn't careful when taking your car to service at the dealer if you get a tech with a big ego and doesn't know stick they will possibly burn your clutch or at least significantly reduce your clutch life, God bless !
