The other one which tickles me is 99% of fights go to the ground………yep, just KZbin street fights and are 99% on the ground?!?!………..no guys, stop believing this BS. Not saying the outcome would have changed because nobody thinks it would have, Rorion had far too much experience . But why did the other fighter have foam gloves on? Honestly the other fighter was handicapped in the altercation with that(and the fact he really didn’t understand how to defend against that on any level). If you’ve ever sparred with foam gloves they take a lot of the sting out of hits.

The Gracies are very savvy businessmen. I would believe Gene over any Gracie. Let's look at Gracie jujitsu in 2024. Kron gets KOd in a few seconds. And he's one of their best.

I would trust Benny Urquidez over the Gracies any day.

I have a question about Brazilian fighters Rickson won over 400 fights ( claims) and Marco Ruas won over 300 so he claims. How come they never fought if both are from Brazil.

Fascinating stuff, Rorion! For some reason, I always thought Benny was an early adopter of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (like Dan Inosanto and Chuck Norris). I wonder if Benny has since trained in BJJ? I know that he eventually started cross-training in Muay Thai after some challenging encounters with MT fighters. So Benny has demonstrated a willingness to learn new martial arts.

I've seen Benny fight and seen his attitude, Benny is more believable. No MMA fighter who has dealt with Rorion has anything positive to say about him.

Ask gene how much really happened he laugh and say every dream is different 😅

Rorion talks sheer flatulence albeit good at promoting himself. What happened with Rorion going in UFC? He pooped his pants at the mere thought of it, as did Rickson. Truth is even before UFC the Gracie's LOST matches and fights, they lost some of the Gracie challenge matches but naturally those are the ones they don't talk about to make it seem like they were invincible. Rorion and Royce were poor athletes but good at BJJ and they relied on fighting people who did not know defences against it.

No such thing as barzilan jujutsu, there is only Japanese jujutsu or just jujutsu. It doesn't matter how effective it is it's origin is Japanese not barzilan. Anything else is theft. Some may not know what theftis in spanglish culture.

That's why as a Martial Artists you must leave your ego and stay Humble. Learn every technique that works in real combat or sports combat and you will be a real Martial Arts practitioner!

I only trained with Gene less than a dozen times total (in the 90s). In terms of knowledge, Gene wasn't just a "Judo guy". He had an unusually deep understanding of catch-style and grappling in general. The amount of stuff Gene knew was mind-boggling. As mentioned, he was a true character but was extremely gracious to everyone.

The Jet was the best full contact fighter I ever saw.

I began karate in the 1970's. I remember how the Gracie family turned the martial arts world upside down in the 1990's (UFC events). Thanks to the Gracie family everyone knows the importance of basic ground skills. Unfortunately, imo, all of this bragging is tarnishing the Gracie legacy.

Good story. I was an student of Grandmaster Cho and He wouldn't fight with a clown. His kicks and punches were devastating. a fight with Grandmaster Cho means hospital or funeral. He was powerful and fast. BJJ and Luta fighters punch tires like maniacs. TKD fighters punch concrete since little children and the kicks are fast and powerful. Good story of yours I think You watch too much Goku and Bruce Lee DVDs

Heel Ill Cho is amazing... I grew up in Santa Monica and trained elsewhere back then, but I once got to watch GM Cho do his private workout at his dojang. I just wandered in. He was incredible.
