VERY, VERY bad idea to allow the prop to drop that low during check.

i used to fly the cardinals. in 1976/78. my old cessna fbo bought a new 1976 cardinal for $36,000. it had the long range tanks. we would take out the front passenger seat and rear seat and transport bodies for funeral homes.

Great Job really enjoyed it! Can you do and review/comparison with a Bonanza? Also, some comments on weight and balance envelops of these airplanes compared to a workhorse like the 210 would be interesting. In a Bonanza It used to seem like we could hardly use the baggage compartment with three adults at an average weight of 175lbs each.

Excellent review of a fabulous RG. Thanks. I delivered an RG to a customer in Hawaii. Really liked it. Did most of the flight @6000' and 135 kts to extend range.

L/D improvements. Not sure about the VGs on the vertical though. They will make the rudder more effective at those low speeds. On the edges of the dropped leading edges are called fences, not stall fences though. They discourage span-wise flow to help pump up the circulation in a better span load distribution.

Thoroughly enjoyed this detailed look at the 177RG. If I were buying an aircraft that blends my 172 and 182 time this is the one. Not to mention at my age, those big doors would be helpful...seems I'm not as "bendy" as I used to be.

Ground speed is nice but it says nothing about air speed. So your video doesn't actually give true performance data.

Now the 177B I believe had the 180 hp engine. Constant speed prop. "NEW" Wing and redesigned stabalator , right ? It's actually THE ONLY Cardinal worth buying and flying.
@jacquelavalle8828
@jacquelavalle8828 Ай бұрын
Your speed data is deceiving because you use ground speed instead of TAS. My 177B performs pretty much the same without all the “speed mods” except for the exhaust fairing.

Thank you very much! I have always liked the Cardinal, and feel that Cessna really messed up the original version with a low powered engine and not having that slotted stabilator. That plane still turns heads where ever it goes.

Everything is good on this beautiful 177rg. I have unfortunately had 3 engine failures as a pilot. Piper 140, Cessna 177, and Baron C -55. Made a runway with the Piper. Made a Road with the Cessna 177. Runway with the Baron. Luckily all three were day VFR. I fly twin aircraft now.

BIRD, but now that I'mover being stunned, please put a white stripe on the propeller tips - just in case ramp people are nearby when running. Understand the wing is the same same laminar flow wing as the C-210 which has a nice strong carry through spar, but with wider cabin.. I know people IO-360 in 177RGs having C/S props, and even one friend has an IO-390 in his. Cruises at 180 kts in that TN bird. 177 may be the best thing Cessna ever built save the 441. Lot's of options to do upgrades on this platform. But I think I saw you doing other C-177 videos, so you know all this already eh? Best thing about the G-5 is that it is an AHRS system. Nice colors on your outfit for the vid. :)

I owned a 1972 177B for 6 years and used it for aerial photography. I had a small sliding window installed which worked great. I loved flying her especially on long flights. Very comfortable & easy to land. Even handled crosswinds easily even with those long wings. Only recurring issue I had was the nose wheel strut vibrating on landing. Otherwise I miss that plane!

I'm more of a fixed gear guy. OK, it looks like the plane has legs that stick out while in flight but at least there's no extra mechanism involved in extending and retracting the wheels, and mechanical simplicity is always a plus in my book, even if it does come at a slight cost of aerodynamics.
@aerolife1646
@aerolife1646 2 ай бұрын
There are definitely pros and cons on both. Fixed gears compromise some on performance to gain simplicity and maintenance cost. The RG gives you better performance for higher maintenance costs and more complexity. Thanks for commenting and watching.
