Find me a video that's right to the point and it's actually really useful great job. I'm doing one of my son's car. I've done these before but I thought I'd review it anyway. Nowadays they sell the whole housing so you don't have to just replace the pump portion and because the cars are over 20 years old that makes sense just to get rid of that old plastic anyway. Like you say, the plastic is brutal and pulling out the lines. I've had things break and crack so great idea to be super careful

I'm currently redoing the interior on a '77 220 Cuddy. Have been picking through your videos and haven't found much about the flotation foam. Did you pour in new foam? I've been trying to determine if Searay engineered these so that the foam was part of the structural integrity of the boat, since the stringer/floor support system don't appear to be designed, or built, with that intent.

Excellent video. Only complaint is you didn't show the actual removal of the assembly. It appears that your lines are oriented the same as mine. The angled relief in the lower tub does not seem to be providing clearance for one of the lines coming off of that T. Just going to cut it, I think...

Do you by chance know what the factory wire color code is? I have a 69 srv170 I’m re doing and the main pigtail is still in tact, so now I’m doing the gauges and cleaning all the wiring up but can’t find anything online as to what the color codes are

Also would like to mention, I LOVE that there people out here still making instructional content on these older machines that are still running around but its hard to fine people who still work on them. So a lot of us end up finding good deals on these 90's early 2000's jetski's that need some work, and we can rely on people like you who know how to work on them! <3

Probably one of the best break downs I've seen. Good Picture cuts/highlights. As a fellow Mechanic (Auto, Not Watercraft) I wanna say this was very helpful! and love the organization and thoroughness of this procedure! Well done! :)

It’s been a lot of work - and it’s taken way too long - but life happens. I’ve been sorting through all of the parts I pulled out to rebuild the boat, and am gradually getting ready to start getting them put back in. Hoping to record another update video this week.

It is not restoring - it is more like building a new boat. . Cost the same as new boat or more probably.
@zero_to_floating8338
@zero_to_floating8338 Жыл бұрын
It's not free - or super cheap - that's for sure, but the materials cost is nowhere near to what a new boat would be. I wouldn't be able to afford the cost of a new boat... If I had to pay somebody to do the work for me, that would be a different situation (or if I put an actual dollar value on my time). It simply wouldn't be worth it.

Welcome back. Good to see you again. Sorry about your losses. I have a '78, 24' SeaRay Weekender. It didn't have the rot issues you had but is in need of complete upholstery, wiring, and some engine/outlive maintenance. Beautiful boats still alot of style. Your vids have been most useful and inspiring. Keep up the good work.

Hey mate start by saying hat off too the unbelievable amount amount of work you have put into the searay been watching a lot of your videos I would like to ask you a question I'm looking at buying a 1980 weekender same boat as you have just couple years newer think they are all the same hull design I want to make a trailer that will fit the hull shape the best and wondering if you know the measurements between the Chines from gunnel to the first outer chine and the inner chine

Nice. Watched all 20. Can't wait for update. Will it float, or sink because of all that plywood you added. I would have done the same. Built to last
@zero_to_floating8338

I didn’t add more plywood than what was there originally. Difference is that the new stuff is sealed better than the original. I am planning to get back at it in the next few weeks. The whole project got put on hold due to dealing/helping with aging parents… boat has been waiting for me under a tarp.

I wonder what plans you have for the portholes/windows? I do have a searay from that era and I would really like to replace those portholes with something new without having to deal with mayor fiber glass work for it. Thanks!!!

I removed the old plastic/cracked frames, bonded in wood supports on the inside, and created flush mounted windows using tinted lexan. Hopefully it was the right choice. The boat has been under a tarp waiting for me since the last video. Hoping to get back at it in a few weeks.

@zero_to_floating8338
@zero_to_floating8338 Жыл бұрын
I used exterior plywood. Nothing fancy. Many people will tell you that you need to use marine plywood. If I was building a wood boat, that would be true. As it is, the real difference between marine plywood and regular exterior plywood is the lack of voids in the marine ply - important in a wood boat, not an issue being the “core” in a glass boat. Both types of wood use waterproof glue, both will rot just as fast if left exposed to water.

One drawback to epoxy is that it is not U/V resistant. Used without a top coat to protect it it will start to break down in a year or two. So it is not a good coating for wood that is out of doors unless it is coated with a U/V resistant varnish or such for a clear finish. Like any clear finish it will require a lot of maintenance.

What wood do you use for your stringers. Could I use laminated marine ply that has a laminated side on both and just grind the laminate down so the poly resin will stick??

I just removed the interior of my Beneteau 323. I found it best to work with two people. We placed the pieces (cut from the prior forms) up several times and thought of the best approach so that once tacky... we were not having to move it around. Start on one side and move slowly back. Avoided the wrinkles this time..

Why use polyester? This is my first stringer replacement on a 1975 boat.
@zero_to_floating8338
@zero_to_floating8338 2 жыл бұрын
Why not? It's what they used to build the boat originally - and it costs a LOT less than using epoxy (especially with a project of this size). Nothing wrong with polyester resin if used properly, and surfaces are prepared properly.

You should wear a mask working with rotten wood like that. You're breathing spores and who knows what else. I have a '77 SRV 240 flybridge, bought for a project. Plan on rebuilding the transom and changing to a higher horsepower outboard (will free up a lot of interior storage and be quieter - and more reliable). I don't have your kind of rot but I'm expecting a lot of work.
@zero_to_floating8338
@zero_to_floating8338 2 жыл бұрын
You're probably right about the mask - but I tend to get carried away with just trying to accomplish something and forget (until later). Good luck with the rebuild!

ive never seen somebody tab in the bottom side and leave a gap, interested to see a failure analysis of one that has been gapped and then impregnated from underneath and then capped....or put the mixture into your troff youre going to lay your stringer and squish your stringer into the go and then tab the outsides once its pushed into the place to ensure no voids, the way youre doing it looks like room for voids and errors if youre not careful

I watched this video sometime erlier but now a few monds later with another boat witch is completely misdone bij the previous owner i watched it again with more interest. And i listened better too this time. For a dutchie not always easy haha. But this is how i am going to di the stringers on my Phantom 21. Thank you for this explanation about the different kinds of resin. I did a small boat already completely inside and outside with unwaxed epoxy (now i know). With this boat i have to do now i used a lot of west system witch is very expensive compared to the normal expoxy. I wil use this for the stringers and waterproofing the wood. Thank you!
