I can see that it can be difficult for old congregations to accept the service in another language. I am Greek Orthodox and I can see on my church which is mostly Greeks that there are a lot of negative comments when they try to introduce parts of the liturgy in English. And is only fair when all the regulars are Greeks over 70 years old and barely speak English.

You don’t have to be Greek or Russian and there is not any priority to anyone you are equal with the bishop and he knows that ❤ orthodoxy is free and equal to everyone the approach with god is only different from person to person because each one is unique orthodoxy is freedom

Η ορθοδοξία δεν έχει να κάνει με την εθνικότητα και ποια γλώσσα μιλάς. Απαράδεκτο αυτό που σας είπανε, έξω σπο κάθε έννοια.

For us, it's not about being Greek. It's finding your way back to the church and uniting with it. We love ALL our brothers in Christ and accept them as equal whether they're African, Asian or European! ❤ ☦️🙏

This was beautiful. I'm new to Orthodoxy, can someone explain to me why this concert didn't occur on January 7th of next year? I'm not trying to stir the pot, I'm genuinely curious, because I thought old calendarist celebrate Christmas on January 7th.
@spotsedu9 күн бұрын
Thank you for your comment and question. You are correct that we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ on January 7 according to the Gregorian or New Calendar, which is December 25 according to the Julian or Old Calendar, which latter calendar we as traditionalist Orthodox Christians maintain and observe. This concert, however, was not the liturgical celebration of the Feast of the Nativity, but was rather a public performance of carols, which are traditionally sung throughout the period before and after the actual day of the Nativity. The date of the concert was also constrained by considerations of the availability of the venue, as well the availability of members of the choir, many of whom spend the weeks surrounding the Nativity elsewhere with their families.

Don't judge a who diocese by one parish, I'm rocor like many Australians and New Zealanders. It was the greek orthodox which put me off orthodoxy initially but that was 1 parish of many. Not every parish is perfect

Despite some Orrhodox Churches not being welcoming, the grace of God continues to reside in those very same churches....and, in my limited experience, your soul will be healed regardless of their behaviors. Its a difficult walk - to not be welcomed by the people - remember though, the Most Holy Trinity's table has a seat especially reserved for you.
