An Update on the Shelly Fire

The Shelly Fire continues to spread, having consumed over 15,000 acres. Thank God, it is now at 18% containment. A veritable army of firefighters has assembled from across the state and country, numbering almost 3,000 personnel to help fight the fire.
The fire approached within two miles of the City of Etna but, by the mercy of God and the tireless and heroic efforts of the firefighters, it has been stopped and contained on that front. It was a very alarming situation. Structure protection fire crews were stationed seemingly at every street corner in Etna and throughout the countryside.
On Monday, an unexpected thundershower resulted in much needed rain right over Etna and the fire. Truly, God is merciful. During the following days, the lower temperatures, higher humidity, and relatively mild winds allowed the firefighters to continue establishing containment lines and to start putting out the fire.
The fires do continue to rage in the wilderness west of Etna, but for now, it seems like the immediate danger has passed. No lives or structures have been lost. Thank God and thank the firefighters.
The evacuation orders for the neighborhood that includes Saints Cyprian and Justina Orthodox Church have been downgraded to a warning. The Convent of Saint Elizabeth the Grand Duchess of Russia, whose Feast Day it is today, has had its evacuation warning lifted.
Please keep the firefighters and first responders in your prayers. We owe such a debt of gratitude for their selfless service. We ask for your prayers for their safety and success. Likewise, please pray for all the evacuees and those otherwise affected by the fire.
