The cutting of that plastic conduit was the most painful thing I’ve ever watched, also the fixing of a clip to plasterboard with a 40mm wood screw no plug is questionable, your teaching people here the amount of information you can portray via video is limitless fixing of conduit is probably more relevant than most of the jargon he’s talking about , teach someone why not how ……😮

Run/Start capacitors need to function in a specific 'MFD' range. This test only shows whether or not the capacitor can carry a charge.

Good demonstration. Is there a max value for R1+Rn I mean if there is a short between Live and neutral the breaker must also trip safely ??
@bramcoteelectrical1088
@bramcoteelectrical1088 Жыл бұрын
No you just make sure you have continuity on live and Neutral. Value will be same for each conductor as both same physical size so max value wont really apply.😮

Was that a charged cap?
@jviews1
@jviews1 3 жыл бұрын
To summarize: discharge cap by shorting the leads. Use OHMS setting to "charge a little". Use DC volts to see if help some charge and discharging slowly back to zero. Best to use a capacitance measurement tool after this first test. DO NOT FORGET TO DISCHARGE FIRST AND NOT HOLD BY HANDS. USE ALLIGATOR CLIPS.

I saw another video using uF cap setting on meter but mine showed 0.L. Not sure why.. maybe because it's a filter capacitor? It's brand new rated 20V 15000uF for a pinball machine

480v AC running 1,000 watt high pressure sodium lamps in the parking lot lights at Meijers stores have core & coil ballast with a remote ignitor and capacitor. When replacing a bad ballast I would always show an apprentice how the cap stores enough voltage to ruin your day by, having a short piece of SJO cord with 2 alligator clips and a female cord end, and plugging in an old Milwaukee 1/2" drill and running the drill off just the cap for approximately 45 seconds, (after just de-energizing fixture). Apprentices have a little more respect for electricity after seeing that, and not too many have been hit by a live cap afterward either.

That db looks to be fed by an armoured cable. Isn’t it pointless disconnecting that earth when the gland of the swa is probably providing a parallel earth path back to the met?
@tlangdon12
@tlangdon12 2 жыл бұрын
No, it's not pointless. The SWA might be providing a parallel earth path, back to the MET, but the test that Chris is doing is not using the SWA at all. The path of the current that is flowing is from the transformer to the live terminal in the board, through the test meter to the earth wire that Chris has disconnected from everything other than the MET, then via the MET back through the earth to the transformer. The SWA is not part of the current flow as only one end of it is in the circuit. (It would need both ends to be part of the circuit to create a parallel path).

I think there's something wrong with your test if you short out the socket with or without the adapter you will trip the RCDS/ RCBOs? So what the trick. I have tried it and yes the RCD TRIPED. Update, I have watched the video again I realised that the mcb for the circuit being tested was infact turned off. So I apologise for the criticism, I have never seen this test carried out like that before, must remember how to do it fab

You failed one minute in!! You need to test between all live conductors and earth, neutral is deemed as a live conductor and as that is a three-phase installation you should have tested L1 to N, L2 to N, L3 to N, L1 to earth, L2 to earth, L3 to earth, L1 to L2, L2 to L3 and L1 to L3. Any isolator is more than capable of failing to open all its poles and I have seen it in the past!

If you cannot comprehend this simple video , do not touch a multi meter. I will explain what he is doing, allow me, late but still...he puts it to OHM to "charge" the capacitor a little bit, then sets it to VOLT to see if it discharged (hence working properly)
