Those planes look like BF-109s but this attack happened with FW-190s.

I remember watching this for the first time when i was about 5 or 6 when it was being shown on TV, sat watching it with my late dad. I was captivated by the planes flying around, the sound of the engines echoed in my mind. Even now at the age of 32 this is still one of the best films made to me, a timeless classic i can watch over and over. I just hope no one attempts to re-make it because it won't be the same and there will be no way to capture the essence and feel. Plus CGI will be used and it will spoil it massively

When they were filming this at RAF Binbook in Lincolnshire, I had just passed my motorbike test and rode over to see what I could see.... Beautiful day like in this clip, the fields full or wheat..... Nothing then I heard Merlins! two P51d's came up over the fence a few secods later " The Belle" trundled out over the fence....I teared up! Fabulous to see them in the "flesh" can count the number of times I have seen this over the years. I have a such a love of these Mighty Eigth's B17 and their crews.....

Hal Holbrook began filling a niche of corrupt authority figures involved in law & law enforcement with Magnum Force in 1973. These characters (In All the President's Men, the Star Chamber & The Firm) did illegal things in secret with the most extreme agenda of imposing their view of the world upon the rest of humankind. He was exceptional at conveying an individual member of a shadowy but powerful element which had disproportionate sway of life in North American society. His is the face I see on any member of a sinister cabal in conspiracy theories and things which speculate on secret societies. I can imagine him behind the Venetian carnival mask of an onlooker in the Eyes Wide Shut orgy scene.

In reality, these Heinkels were escorted by long-range Bf 110 D-1 /R1 fighters of I./ZG 76. The twin-engined fighters, which were suffering catastrophic losses in better conditions, were encumbered with massive external fuel tanks to make the journey from Norway to Britain. They lost 7 aircraft and their wing commander to the defending British aircraft and their own fuel tanks, which malfunctioned and exploded. 8 of the bombers they were escorting were shot down. No British aircraft were lost. It was the first and last day of major German operations against Britain from Norway.

@@wellhungindung Ignore the delusional nazi fanboi. The Luftwaffe lost over +1700 aircraft the vast majority were lost along with their highly trained and experienced "experten" aircrews. The RAF lost around 950 aircraft, with about 45-50% of the pilots returning to service.

These were 40+ year-old aircraft by the time these scenes were shot. To put that in perspective, some of the earlier ANG F-15Cs and F-16s still in service today are 40 year-old aircraft.

It's from season 3 of "The Tudors" by Michael Hirst, who 10 years later made "Vikings", in which "Tudors" main character Jonathan Ryhs Meyers, was cast again, this time as Bishop Heahmund. The man executed with the hot poker in the video here was John Constable, one of the leaders of the "Pilgrimage of Grace" a peaceful rebellion against Henry that was brutally put down.

That's how they actually treated hemorrhoids during that time. Of course they wouldn't thrust it all the way "in". But they would burn hemorrhoids "off" with glowing hot steel rods. The glowing hot steel would immediately cauterize the wound. Lowering the risk of bleeding and infection. Just pray that you will be "operated" like this in winter. At least you will have some ice to treat the burns.

Also taught me much on my visits to his house at Effingham. Richard Todd came for lunch in the 1980s. What memories.. so cherished! Visit the Dams if you can.. how they did it will amaze you when you see their actual size!!👍
