Hi, The K4 and its variants (K4D etc.), like most Amateur Radio products, is not salt air weatherized. That said, K4s and a number of our older radios have successfully been used by our customers in the marine environment. (Sailboat owners based in Hawaii etc.) Of course normal protections such as use only in protected areas and operation away from open windows and salt water spray should be followed. Not so. A tube amplifier tuned for 1500W output will also be inefficient at lower output power levels. This is the nature of Class AB linear amplifiers, regardless of active device. You can easily measure this yourself!

We do not offer an internal K4 WiFi option at this time as WiFi is a constantly evolving standard, with new protocols being added frequently. What we and our customers use to get the K4 onto WiFi is a small, low-cost WiFi to ethernet adapter. The regular K4 is 100 watts as is the K4D. The K4/10 is a 10-watt K4.

Yes. The -F means Factory assembled.

You're right - if you're upgrading your K4 to a K4D, you should wear an anti-static wrist strap. Both Elecraft employees in the video are wearing blue anti-static wrist straps.

Try turning on the CC (Closed Captioning) it really helps.

These size companies have a very hard time taking their business to the next level as they would have to restructure their entire business. When founders leave, the business limps along for awhile, possibly getting bought by another business or they just close their doors. FlexRadio is in the same boat. They don't know how to take their business to the next level. They don't have $1000-$2000 radios, and may never develop those sku's. Also, Elecraft has California blinders on. They are in an area where people easily throw $10k at a hobby. Ultimately it comes down to if the product cost too much, making a company go BK or does the product cost too little, losing money on each unit sold. Yes many businesses operate like that, living on investor money, until they go BK.

I didn't see a mic used in this demo, but on the Elecraft K4 Ham Expo Presentation 3/12/22, the silver mic that Eric is using is an Electrovoice 638 Microphone. It was sold by Heathkit. Unfortunately, they no longer sell the mic.
