Story time: my mother grew up with an outhouse, and a bad experience with a critter jumping out of the hole gave her a fear of holes. Her habit for outhouses and pit toilets: kick the door, open the door, kick the other part, and if nothing jumps out it’s safe to sit down 😅 MAKE SURE no one’s in there first. She made this mistake, and a scream came from inside. Poor woman couldn’t even go any more 😂

Ever found yourself at some kind of social event, where you just don't belong? Where you don't fit, you're not interested in anything these other people are interested in. Maybe it's work, maybe its a party, or festival or whatever. Most people accept, if you find yourself someplace you really don't want to be, while they don't agree, they can understand your wish to leave, and while to them it may seem a bit rude to just leave, they at least on some level can "get it". That's me in life. I didn't ask to be here, on this planet, at this time, in this country, around these people. Why can't I just leave? Most of the time, I like the idea of people, society and such. I just don't like... actual people.

We can relate to what you have to say - yes, little ‘ol you. We can see parts of your life and struggles in ourselves or in family and friends. You have the most incredible gift to convey so eloquently what is in your heart and mind, whether it be giddy joy or terrible despair. Your uniqueness is your superpower! Hon, you were a kid! No sixteen year old deserves any of that situation you were in- the adults around you seem to have been as or less mature than you were. The parts of our brains that help us make good decisions don't reach maturity until around the age of 25- and it's even harder when you're young to make good decisions when your life is super unstable. I honestly hate the idea that recognizing hardship is a "pity party" or "woe is me"-ing. It's ok to talk about reality for what it is. Every one of those grown ass men should absolutely be ashamed of themselves - for being stupid enough to leave herb out in the open, for using a CHILD the way they did, and then for kicking you out to make you fend for yourself. This world is so cruel to kids. I'm glad you're out there doing what you want to do now! But you don't have to blame yourself for all that stuff.

Panters unite! that’s going to become my new mantra when I’m hiking. I’m 62 and even though I walk daily, there is almost no elevation where I live, so the minute I start hiking up any amount of elevation the panting commences and I have to stop for a lot more rest breaks to bring my heart rate down to something close to normal. I’m glad you got trekking poles! Those have been my savior.
