Steam has been doing it for years.....

The solution to this is GOG (Good Old Games). The library is limited but they legally sell PC games digitally with absolutely 0 DRM software (digital rights management)

The portal is such a dumb device. I mean, I get it. I love gaming in bed or in the kitchen or the bathroom, but I've got my Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck that just do it better. No internet connection required, games installed and ready to play anywhere. Then there's this Portal thing that requires you to purchase a playstation and a subscription on top of having wifi access before you can even use the thing? It's an absolute joke. At least now, you can take it away from home under the right circumstances, but this gaming device is absolutely useless on its own.

Not able to change your country nowadays is just wild. Just let it have a cool down of half a year or something...

Ps5 pro isn't worth my money I'd rather save for the switch successor then save again for a Ps6. It's obvious there not gonna sale well to the average gamer so it's hilarious that scalpers aren't gonna have much success trying to rip people off when sony are doing that all by themselves by charging a ridiculous price point. Also Ebay need to clamp down on scalpers seriously and make it so they can't sale a product newly released or coming soon.

I would get one if someone hacked it and allowed you to stream from your pc. You can do this now on even a phone, but this thing would be a much better experience.

It’s just a display if you don’t get a PlayStation five it’s a paperweight but then again you look like you believe it’s a handheld you don’t look very smart all it is is a display for your PlayStation five you don’t own the game. You can’t play the game on it. You have to have the stupid games downloaded on your PlayStation to stream them to that stupid little hillbilly tablet not worth the money if it can’t do more than my phone can do come on I can play the full game pass library streaming on my phone. You can’t stream games on PlayStation you have to have them downloaded to your system or else they don’t work I know I own a PlayStation five all digital and I’ve canceled my plans and everything for it because unless I’m in my house, I can’t stream my games to my phone or anything else which is worthless as dog shit, I don’t even own an Xbox and I can play Xbox games on my phone on my tablet and everything else I don’t have to have them downloaded and again with PlayStation you do

In short this is code for according to Sony 'good news you don't have to have access to your PS5 now to use your Portal, but bad news you do need an Internet connection still, as well as the fact that your games have to be digital and a PS+ subscription. And if you have neither, well sucks for you'. At this point, Sony may as well just make another iteration of the Vita or PSP.

Just got the anniversary one in the mail and played a bunch on it. Definitely better than my phone with controller clipped on or iPad with controller. But definitely won’t upgrade my ps account for cloud games

This is how it should have been on day one. Also they should add being able to play digital purchased games with the ability to save it directly on the Portal.

"We have outgrown the need for physical media". Respectfully, that is simply not true. Lose physical media and you lose all sense of ownership. What that means is no more used games, no more being able to lend your friend a game, no more being able to sell your old collection of games or preserve it for you to eventually sell or pass down to your kids. For movies and music specifically, we also lose A LOT of quality in compression and streaming artifacts, meaning we are getting an inferior version of art and the way it was intended to be experienced. Having this attitude of "we are not going to have physical for much longer so I'm just gonna go with it" is exactly what these companies want so they can look forward to charging whatever they want for your software and have total control over it. If we lose physical, I'll simply no longer buy new consoles. It's as simple as that. I have plenty of backlog anyway.

If every game we purchased from Sony and Microsoft had an executable file like they do on PC through Gog and not steam, people would not mind having digital games, but that's not the case with these hungry companies like Sony and Microsoft and steam.

They just want to make it all digital to have full control of all games and the games will never be yours if you purchase them digitally through Sony or Microsoft. It's amazing the flak I get from people for saying this same thing. I have a $20 limit on digital games. I don't care if I have to wait 5 years I won't pay big prices for basically a rental.

Funny enough. When you mentioned the Animal Crossing Mobile game, I did just that. Thing is, Animal Crossing fans are just plain used to paying just $50 or $60 on a game, and getting years of content, for that one price, and unlimited User-made content in each release. So paying a lot for a mobile game is much more unlikely. I could see some paying some decent money, but very few passing the $100 line. I basically played whatever free content I could get, being very patient with new gains (on the free track), because it was just a quick time spender on my phone. But I digress. To me, Animal Crossing is about a lot of content and user-made capable stuff for a single price, so the mobile model just didn't attract me. The one time $10 price feels good to me, because it's mobile. That's pretty much as much as I'll spend on any mobile product because mobile is terrible for game preservation. Anything, and I mean, anything you run or buy on mobile is never guaranteed to run later. If you want an incredibly long list of applications and games, on mobile, that are not even operable anymore, they highly eclipse the list of online-only games that died on other machines. The mobile graveyard is huge, and that's because unlike consoles or PC support, mobile systems never guarantee compatibility on upgrades for a single piece of hardware. So your same phone or tablet, might have an update and *poof* there goes that software.

That I knew for years. It's why I have a good stockpile of Physical games I'll always be able to play, way past whatever day of execution for them. The majority of them can be fully played (over 95% of the Switch ones) without one connection to the internet..

Native Play is what makes a portable an actual handheld. Cloud is just Remote play with less consumer control. The portal is in the same position as it was when it launched. Putting the hardware in PS's hands while requiring a paid Subscription is worse than owning the PS5 and streaming your own games.
