CPULD YOU PLEASE TALK ABOUT CORTISOL? I have high cortisol due to past stess and trauma. Its chronic. No supplements help, Ive been taking supps for years. I also have Hashimotos, PCOS, EDS.....no weight loss, only weight gain despite eating barely anything....like 1300cals/day. Sometimes more but most mostly not. Some days I dont eat anything. I have no appetite for most of the day. I eat OMAD. Low sugar, low carb, mostly animal based. At this point I think I might beed to be checked for Cushings or something. Ive ALWAYS been overweight my entire life despite not over eating and being very active. I am seeing a functional practioner but things are too slow. I onlt see her like every 2 mos. Nothing changes.

Fasting does NOT work for me. I feel worse. I have high cortisol and lose zero weight. I've tried all the fasting regimes, week long water fasting, week long only Premier protein shakes. Lose nothing. I also have Hashis, PCOS, EDS and possibly fibromyalgia. I feel miserable if I fast but I also still don't eat enough and lose nothing, but will still gain. It makes no sense.

Environmental factors are critical for psychiatry as well. Pills don't work alone. I'm still alive after decades of mental illness because I at least surround myself with others and ask for help. I get clinically depressed and take trazadone and paxil, but take 5 other stuff as well. I need to because I have had an atrocious life. Some psychiatrists over prescribe.

This is the first time I've heard people outside of OA speaking about food addiction who truly know what they're talking about. Too many people say thing like, "I had a sugar addiction, but I got over it." Yeah, right. They don't understand the meaning of the word addiction, but you two understand. Thank you for sharing your experience. I was in OA for 15 years, but was relapsing so frequently at the end that I couldn't find hope there anymore. I've heard of people who get over their eating disorder by going carnivore. I'd hoped that this would happen to me, but I think I'm probably more like both of you. My cravings and food thoughts are a lot less severe now that I've been on carnivore for a while, but I will probably always need to be very cautious with regards to my food choices.

I'm not surprised that a large part of carnivore people are women, because women are generally more curious and oriented to problem-solving. Food is a big part of our lives, women cook more often than men, men are more attached to their habits. I'm not on carnivore diet yet but I'm interested in it for health reasons. Now whenever I search for carnivore diet on YT I get feeds about MAGA people, JP and MP's cure for depression, Joe Rogan and a list of macho men with domination ambition and very demure submissive trad women all about feminine modesty praising the meat and the beef tallow. Plus their comment boards are full of very religious conservative Christians (clearly not the Adventists) randomly quoting lines from the Bible about meat eating. So I guess there is a link between the carnivore diet and these people, but it could be an appropriation, not reality. After all eating is just human nature and it should not be politicized, but it gets politicized as anything else. When I became a vegan many years ago and honestly feeling much better for a long time, there was all the controversy on how meat-producers wants you to eat more meat and dairies. Now there is the controversy on corn, grains and vegetable oils and how producers want you to eat vegan. In 10 years I expect a lot of video "they lied to us about benefits of meat".

It absolutely boggles my mind that doctors both body and mind type would not think that the human body is just a composition of cells designed an orchestrated by the nutrients contained from the food we consume. Consume crappy food and you end up with crappy cells and a sick body whether that body is overweight or not.

What do you do if you are having really bad post partum depression and you are in such a deep dark hole you see no light at the end of the tunnel to get out. An antidepressant saved my life and I'm not sure I would have been able to get out of the rut I was in without it. I will probably get off of it soon but there was 100% a need for it while I was taking it.

Good interview. The only thing I cant get behind is no exercise. 1 1\2 yr carnivore. Got pregnant 1st time trying and before I started had low estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone per ob gyn testing in my early 20s. Truly felt like garbage. High fat and zone 2 cardio helped me fix all of it. It made my body feel safe enough to carry a healthy baby.

Honestly I could not hold the job Ive had for 20 years without medication. I’m not sure if folks know about Welbutrin, buspar, trazadon, straterra. As long as folks taper gradually I suppose it’s safe. I’m just concerned because although not the best alternative it saved my life.

EDIT: Paroxetine use for many years, self harm and I heard its discontinued. Big Pharma should be paying out billions Anti Ds are ultimately useless. Maybe very short term use can help some people and from what I remember that is what they were intended for initially. We experience anxiety and depression for a reason, it tells a person something is wrong in their life so dulling anxiety and depression to allow the person to keep functioning in the same work life, home life is insanity and does not benefit the individual. A lot of the time the person is in the wrong environment, interacting with the wrong people and although that can be extremely difficult to change it is what has to happen. Walked out of several jobs and am gradually finding a way. Realising taking the pain of life is extremely important. It wont kill you, you might feel awful but in time your brain and body will adapt. Proper meditation practice, (not the sit and relax for a while nonsense prevalent in the west), learnt from Tibetan Buddhists has been the key, you will sit in discomfort and build resilience, which transfers to resilience in life. I still get depressed and anxious, but both are perfectly natural and give insight about what is right for me and what is not. We have been led to believe these are mental illnesses. I don't accept that anymore.

Cymbalta saved my life, now I can’t get off. I’ve been on them for 22 years, and I tried to do a hyperbolic taper and I did go from 90 mg to 30 mg in a few months, then the hell began. I was panicky, depressed, anxious, I was a mess. And at 69 I will not allow myself to suffer any longer. I had to increase to 60 mg and I’m not going through that hell. I certainly understand what addicts go thru withdrawing. Difference is I didn’t start taking this drugs for a high….i was days away from hurling my fat ass in front of an Amtrak train. That’s it lights out. Major depression is hell.

He is completely underplaying the persistent clinical depression many people experience. It’s simply not accurate that most people seeking psychiatric care for depression are feeling depressed due to circumstantial situations. It’s also not helpful to imply that people should wait out the depression as that can actually lead to worse outcomes…

Judy, thank you for the brilliant presentation and knowledge share. Very much appreciated! Tetracycline baby from the 60's; did a round of Accutane. Gut problems have just increased over the years to pt that histamine intolerance level says no to most foods now, which brought me to carnivore. I'm abt 75% carnivore (after 6 mos transition) and my kinesiology testing always gives a no go to liver. I have 5 eggs with butter every day but generally don't intake other dairy. Had copper toxicity some yrs back and that was dreadful enough. Now if I can just get my electrolytes to balance...

100% agree with drugs masking underlying issues and preventing someone from finding solutions. I was on and off ssris since 15 years old and got off again at 35 years old. After tapering off this time I was able to read and focus properly again and was able to process my past experiences better. I had PTSD diagnosis in my twenties and realised in the past year that much of my issues are due to neurological differences rather than depression. My family has a lot of autistic relatives and i am diagnosed dyslexic. I have sensory processing differences and probably autistic (waiting on assessment). I have masked very well and the repeated bouts of depression were burnout and due to the high levels of constant stress. I think the drugs helped me mask even more by numbing, but I also developed FND and each burnout has been progressively worse. I never learned to live with my differences. No point being bitter about it and i think my doctors meant well, but my life has been pretty difficult because I did not know how to live with myself as I am. It's a lot of work in my mid-30s now to find my niche and how to live a contented, stable life.

Crud… I’ve gotten so much better on carnivore but I still have issues from 11 of those boxes and I failed my VCS test! My home has visible mold, but even before this I was planning to move because of the neighboring busy highway, gas stations, and farms that spray chemicals. I was only concerned about breathing in tire and brake dust and gas station fumes, and farm chemical residues. I never thought the mold could be a problem because I was fine living in hot humid places in the past. Now I’m wondering if it’s also a problem. More to add to my “figure out where to move to” spreadsheet. One of my dogs is also having similar health problems (from what I can tell) and he gets noticeably worse if he spends time in the visibly moldy areas. I did get much better on my month-long overseas vacation that I recently did, but went back to how I felt pre-vacation as soon as I was back home. This was not related to going back to work etc, because I spent the first week back just chilling, and casually resumed my work when I felt like it. So I think I’m capable of getting better if I get into a clean enough environment. Anyway, despite this, carnivore helps me to feel so much younger and better.
