Excellent content! I have found that quite a bit can be done immediately to improve air quality within a house (depending on the problem). My moisture problems were basement related with no more drywall (i removed it and mildocided... If you do this wear proper masks while hepa filtering the air like crazy...i didn't know to do this and think it initiated my mold related health problems). Immediate steps that can have give benefits: 1) Dehumidifier hooked up to a hose for continuous drainage (emptying buckets will never work if you have a serious moisture problem) and monitor humidifier levels in various areas of the house. 2) Monitor and replace furnace/AC air filters frequently (replace ~2-8 weeks but check more frequently) using MERV 11 or MERV 13. 11 is much cheaper and allowes for greater air circulation, even though 13 technically takes out more contaminants. Start with either one and see which works better for your setup. 3) Maximize HVAC Air filters benefit by continuously running the fan (although this is probably bad if moisture problem continues behind walls... Which i didn't think was my case). Depending on what's going on, I run mine a min of 25 min/hr... And i find helps 4) Check all gutters, ESPECIALLY if underground! Mine detached underground and were pouring down the foundation. ASSUME ALL GUTTERS AND DOWNSPOUTS ARE BAD UNTIL FULLY PROVEN OTHERWISE! 5) Vacuum and dust more frequently. We have 8 people in the house so we at least use a mechanical sweeper every day and a bigger HEPA vacuum once per week. 6) Stand-alone HEPA filters in sleeping quarters. This is more expensive and I don't think should be done until properly using HVAC filters, as mentioned above. 7) EC3 products are amazing and really work. I started with their candles and went to their air spray and biological supplements. However they are very expensive and don't think they will fix anything until most of the above are done... Although the candles will give immediate relief... Breathing over these candles is like going out to the woods and taking a deep breath of fresh air ... I could feel the weight lifted off my lungs! I think they can be used as a test... If breathing over these candles provides immediate relief you have likely found that you have mold problem... 7) Binding/Detoxing mold in your body (okra&pepson or carboxy cellcore on an empty stomach +- 1 hour) Finner tuning once easier above things are done (I haven't finished doing these yet): 1) Consider removing or replacing carpets (short term may be to have them PROFESSIONALLY cleaned but only after getting humidity under control because need to dry carpets out quickly) 2) if needed and possible, grade property away from house immediately around the house. 3) Basement Window wells have covers with drainage and higher dirt levels 4) Crawl spaces. Make sure dry (air circulation or dehumidifier in it. I eventually had a radon system installed which sealed the crawl spaces as well as sucking out bad air. This helped too. Moving as suggested but easier said then done and problem may follow you. I felt like i needed to improve my situation before moving but it depends on your situation. I think I've also gotten it under control, have made my house liveable for my family and sellable to others, and an better prepared if we do move on what to look for and how to catch and mitigate issues sooner in myself and helping others. Originally, what helped me think more clearly and move easier in the beginning was a food sensitivity test done by CaringMedical which diagnosed me with leaky gut. I avoided 40 common foods for about 2 years and was life changing. Eventually, I noticed that I could eat those foods in certain environments but other places it was disastrous to my mental and joint health. I don't fully understand but can now eat most foods as long as I'm not in a high mold environment. At this point, drinking 1-2 liters before going into environments which have mold tremendously mitigates immediate health issues caused by the environment.

I have had three exposures to mold and getting more sensitive and sick with each one. The last exposure nearly killed me. Two inspectors couldn’t find mold but mycotoxins were present and wanted $10,000 to scrub the house and air. So glad I didn’t do it. I later found the mold myself in my personal items including the memory foam mattress pad where I spent 20 hours a day. At least I didn’t need to have my house torn apart nor vacate it. Four years later, I am still trying to heal. Keep spreading the word!!

This is very interesting! I have autoimmune disease and am carnivore as of about 10 months ago. At 79 I discovered I had an overgrowth of Candida and was allergic to grains I went basically vegetarian with a little bit of meat and lots of vegetables. I got worse. At 82 I prayed in God showed me information that I was allergic to oxalates in the vegetables, and therefore I went strictly carnivore. I have to be very careful. I have introduced some very low low fruits into my diet occasionally. The oxalate had almost crippled to me where I was even having trouble to walk and I am a very active person normally. I appreciate the information about the mold. I help build our house, but I kind of suspect that maybe there may be some mold in the basement area where my grandson and his wife now live. I live on the main floor, but who knows. I live in rural Oklahoma, where we don’t have anyone in the area that can do the kind of test that we need todo. I’m wondering if this doctor or you can do the blood test that would show the mold?

I find it really interesting mentioning military and mold issues. I have been chronically ill for 20 years...military spouse. And it is well known in the military housing community the mold issues, and shortcut repairs, poor maintenance schedule, etc. I always connected the start of my symptoms to around the time I got pregnant with my last son, but that also coincides with getting married and moving into base housing as well (a year before actually). Recently have been diagnosed with celiac disease, sibo, BV, gastropasresis, vitamin d deficiency (for years), low b12. Also, recently working towards a carnivore diet...and having massive improvements in many symptoms because of it...and now I can actually tell if something I eat effects me...because I have a good base line finally. All these years following dr. diet advice I was constantly poisoning myself for my body and didn't realize it and no one would believe me or test me for anything.

A doctor I saw in 2013 put me on Prozac because all of my bloodwork looked fine, and he stated that stress from being my Mother's caregiver was what was causing my symptoms. I had lost 30 pounds in 3 months and had profuse night sweats. I knew it was more than stress. I mentioned that I had been staying in a house that had previously been flooded, and wondered if mold could be an issue. He told me that I watch too much TV, and if mold was an issue, it would have shown up on my labs. Pretty much mocked my opinion. I stayed on Prozac for 8 months but never got better, and I didn't get better until I stopped spending any time in that house. My doctor continued to say it was all in my mind, and that Dr Google was not helping me. I stopped seeing him as well. Sadly, most doctors around here feel exactly like he does. Mold isn't an issue for them. Just prescribe pills.

Anyone know of a good mold inspector in Chicago? I did a Mosaic mycotoxin test and have severe ochratoxin A and severe mycophenolic acid - both off the charts - grew up in a water-damaged home - currently live in a water-damaged condo (though supposedly remediated) - want to see whether I need to move and leave everything or whether the remediation helped. I used to be an ultra-marathon runner, martial artist, dancer, gym rat, etc. Now, I'm over 300 lbs and can barely walk, exercise resistant, severe sleep apnea, have Hashimoto's, lipedema, brain mapping showed severe depression, anxiety, ADHD, no energy, falling asleep at my desk at work, etc. I'm doing all the binders (fulvic, humic, charcoal, chlorella, zeolite, pectin, etc., etc.) and German homeopathics along with 5 million supplements for thyroid, inflammation, deficiencies, gut health, etc. I'm doing oxygen, photon sound beam, AMI 750, FIR sauna, neurofeedback, rebounding, vibration board, etc., etc. I've tried hard to give up sourdough bread and cannot make it more than 2 weeks. I'm also an ethical vegan (35+ years), so carnivore is not an option for me. I'm trying to do as much vegan auto-immune paleo as possible. I fully believe you on grain free - it's just so hard on plant-based. So, I get why carnivore is the answer for many.

Actually not. I saw any number of cats fed 100% vegan their entire petty little lives never seeing a shred of meat, they don't grow well but don't die neither. Picked up a dog discarded in a vineyard, ate grapes like a maniac, didn't know other food, so animals can adapt to novel diets within limits, and provided they reproduce before they die, their offspring will be better adapted. If animals died as soon as conditions changed, we'd have no evolution and no animals on this planet of any kind. All animals took off from herbivore at some point, and can revert if they had to. Like Panda bears. So if the guy wants to eat vegan and he's not bothering anyone, that's fine. With the amount of humans live on Earth today, carnivore is no longer sustainable anyway. Until they figure out mass-produced synthetic meat, I guess tempeh is a sensible solution.
