I have one question for you do consultants really solve problems . You scored 99.53 percentile still converted iim Calcutta now people are getting rejected even at 99.99 percentile

Not every solution consultants give is implemented but think about it - if they weren't solving anything in reality why would any company pay loads of money to them? And converting IIMC at 99.53 or getting rejected at 99.99 is totally dependent on your previous profile. My previous academic scores + work-ex + the fact that IIMC gives gender diversity marks helped me get a call.

It's important to understand that the composite score plays a crucial role. For example, my brother, despite scoring a 99.96 percentile, didn't receive a call from IIM Bangalore. If his work experience or academic scores had been slightly lower, he might not have received calls from IIM Ahmedabad or Calcutta either. The selection criteria truly matters!!

Tech jobs are high paying and have very best working life balance. I am working at barclays more than 30 lpa fixed. I work mostly 4-5 hours ler day. Tech jobs are precious because quality supply is very less. Rather than management consulting. Management consulting is generalized jobs. If you are working in niche skills then you will always best working life balance.

Hi Prachi, When you interviewed for your next company, how did you justify why you were leaving previous one in 9 months? I don't think the next employer would take it positively if you say it was because of the work pressure as that would signal that you cannot handle tough situations.

Hey, you can't say something like this bluntly but if know how to be diplomatic enough and put your point across - you won't be misunderstood. Plus, it kind of acted like a filter for me as well - like in one of the interviews, the interviewer was of the mindset that I shouldn't run away from work and ignored the fact that my health was getting impacted. So I knew, I didn't want to work in such a company because I won't be a good fit. Vice versa, he knew I won't be a good fit. Saved me another switch :P

There is no straight cutoff as different institutes have different criteria. It would totally depend on your profile :)

Heyy, exact percentile would vary depending on the college and undergrad scores but you should aim for 95-96+ to be on the safer side given you won't get work-ex points! :))

I used to work in the nights till 12 am and then attend call at morning 11 am. Then I stopped attending late night calls, they removed me from project. 😊

Hey Devendra, Big4 me jaane ke liye profile pe focus karo - agar abhi MBA me results acche aate hai aapke toh accha chance rahega + CV pe bhi focus rakho. Extra-curricular activities ya phir kuch position of responsibility le lo. Management consulting me enter karne me bhi yeh help karega - but mostly pehle back office me position leni padegi and then eventually over the years you can move to the front office :)

As I have observed these work-life balance issues are not that prominent in the EU. Even in the USA, I'd say things were better compared to how the lady describes them.

The Big 4 and the Big 3 in Consulting have similar work cultures in terms of toxicity. Too much pressure on employees. There is total focus on revenue and profitability numbers.

Colleges ko toh bhi toh apna naam karna. Ivy leagues quote nahi kar sakta kyunki vahan placement ka system hi nahi hota actually. Aapko khud hi companies ko reach out karna padta hai. But it's more like - college select karte time aap bhi toh package ka scope dekhte ho na along with other things. Isiliye advertise hota hai, competition hi itna hai kya karein. Bas khudse try kar sakte ki dusro se compare naa karo

Hi Prachi ma'am I passed 12th last year with PCB stream and have a gap year (for NEET). My acads:- 10th: 79.4% 12th: 72.6% From CBSE Category: SC (Graduation is yet to be...) I got admission in Dyal singh college, Delhi University into BA (Hons) Philosophy program; and BCom in a local college - which one should I pick, keeping eyes on MBA? I am considering MBA after UG. Can I make it into IIM A/C/L or any other good B-School like FMS? Also, my father want me to give an another shot for NEET. So, I am also confused between these two options.

Hey, what do you want to do? If you eventually want to become a doctor, then no harm trying again. But if you're in favour of MBA - you should do ahead with your bachelor's. And while BA or BCom won't really impact your chances in doing an MBA, I feel you'll get more exposure in BA from a Delhi college - extracurrics, etc.

I have a graduation degree in economics honours with 8.46 CGPA and I haven't done anything such that I can write in my CV because I was preparing for UPSC and preparing for UPSC make you read multiple books but it doesn't give you any certificates and even main get disqualify with even one mark so basically all I want to ask is I have two years of GAP like 2023 and 2022 and now 2024 I haven't applied for CAT thinking that I will not be selected If in case I get into IIM because of very weak CV I did graduation from BHU but I don't find it to be something that will make it more impactful please tell us something like once you get into IIM does it matter what you had done till date what you will be selected in interview round based on your MBA studies CGPA

Hey, while it does matter what you have done till now, there is ample of time to improve your CV. Even during your MBA - you can participate in fests, clubs, etc to improve your CV. Summer placements would be a challenge, but during the Final placements - companies mostly look at what you have done during your MBA so all is not lost! :))

I think not....tech jobs are more stressful than yours ...cause they have to work for 15-20 hours....in front of screen (they don't even get to travel 🙃) ..people are not getting jobs in tech nowadays plus no job security...I feel like this is 10x times better than tech job ..

Not sure if you have heard but a lot of Consultants were also laid off due to the economics conditions so times are tough for everyone right now. And some people might prefer sitting in front of the laptop than travel + work on your laptops. It's all about what's better for you but I don't think anyone has it easy. Everyone is struggling, one way or the other.

I spent 5 years at JPMG London. These jobs aren't meant for people who aren't workaholics and aren't prepared to sacrifice their 20s. Work life balance can wait. But not the networking opportunities one gets. This isn't to say that one should continue working at these places forever. The goal should be to build a big enough network and then starting your own business with those networks as your first batch of clients. I did that and today at the age of 33, I have time for myself and my family. During my time at JPMG, I saw many who quit early. Today while most of them have that work-life balance, their earnings have ensured that they wouldn't retire anytime earlier than their late 50s. 😢
