Is Management Consulting your golden ticket or a trap? Because it is less lucrative than it is portrayed. In this video, I dive deep into the dark realities of management consulting which placement cell or company presentations WON'T tell you. And why I quit my high-paying job at Bain & Company within 9 months.
Join me as I talk about the harsh realities of life after joining a management consulting firm! While the high-paying jobs and placements after IIM seem fascinating, you should know the reality of the extreme stress and working hours that go behind it.
After an MBA, many people think they're ready for the big leagues. And, MBB or the Holy Trinity has always been a dream of every CAT aspirant. But in reality, this world is a cutthroat place where success is determined by how well you network and your never-ending work. If you're ready for the dark realities of management consulting, then this video is for you!
I talk about the reality of high-paying jobs after IIM, the ugly side of consulting, and how IIM students year after year follow the herd to pick up these jobs despite the clear signs of warning. And, through this video, I intend to prepare you for the consulting world better and help you make an informed decision. Let’s give you a head start on building a fulfilling career!
About me: I graduated from IIM Calcutta in 2022 and worked at Bain & Company as a management consultant. This channel is on a mission to bridge the information gap in the education and job sector and talks about self-improvement, MBA preparation, and career growth.

Thank you so much for all the support!! ❤❤ Many of us underestimate the challenges until we experience them ourselves. Based on my 4 years of experience in the corporate world after IIT Guwahati and IIM Calcutta, I have shared a video on Hidden Truths of Life after IIMs/IITs. You can check that out to get the real picture of jobs after graduating from colleges and understand the corporate world a little better - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKqvkKOKgbqtq9E

But agr aaap kuchh btana chahe to. ..hmne data analysis k topic to read kiya h pr kya sach me python sql power BI seekh le to job mil skti kya... Ek aur question h... 28 yrs me private sector me entry lena thik rhega kya. . Agr hmne certificate le bhi liya pr kya cv shortlist hoga hmara interview call aegi.... Hey, data analyst profile bahut hi wide hoti hai and given you have the right skills - there is always a chance to switch to this field. Haan, starting aapko 0 se hi karna hoga - aapke past experience ka value nahi rahega iss field me but if you are okay with that then Python, SQL, Power BI - isse data analyst field me switch kar sakte ho. Try to do some courses and projects jisse aapki CV thodi improve ho jaaye

@mbawithprachi Hello your video is good enough and i hope everyone got clarity on what happens in high profile jobs. But to be honest I’ve been working in govt sector since last 4 years and i can bet no job is perfect in this world. I can’t stay with my family. Getting frequent transfers and moreover you get to work in remote areas. So even if you get work life balance you can’t spend it with your family. Before that I was into pwc - yes again no work life balance but yeah atleast at the end of the day you got to see your family when sleep. I don’t know what to do

Bang on Prachi it’s the same in all companies - I have worked in Amazon for 7 years, Accenture for 2 years, and an Investment bank for 2 years , and I totally relate with each and every word you said , Indian corporate structure is a messy toxic set up , no matter which company you are working for , one should really keep their spine , ego , choices , values, family time , peace of mind , back at home before joining corporate, if you think youl grow without politics and a** licking , then you are fooling yourself! Companies are just there to make money and nothing else , hence one should assess wisely if they want to be a part of corporate! Also one should Never get fooled by the lives of people working in these industries, the one that is portrayed on social media , as reality is too ugly!

I'm really fortunate to have escaped danger before paying Lakhs for an MBA. I was so fascinated with the MBA KZbin videos that I decided consulting was the right path for me. After receiving my Btech degree I was put in one of the premier consulting company in TC role. However, after joining, I saw that it's a very messy field. Creating PPTs in a premier consulting firm is not my cup of tea. I would much rather be coming up with real tech solutions in a tech company.

@mbawithprachi 17 күн бұрын
Hey, it depends on your peers as well. For example, at IIMB, you might face some difficulties, whereas at IIMC, it's okay to have average grades (more or less). That said, you can make up for past mistakes by studying super hard at IIMs. I know someone who got into BCG despite having average grades because he was in the top 20 at IIMA.

Heyy, heartiest congratulations on joining IIMC! It will be an amazing experience. There will be some challenges across all the sectors (watch my other videos to get a sense of it :P), but before picking any sector - try to gauge your interest based on the classes, projects, case competitions, etc. Every sector will have a middle ground - say for consulting, MasterCard is a bit niche but has better WLB. Similarly, nothing beats doing what you love to do. In general, ProdMan and GenMan have better WLB and decent salaries. Having said that, I also will try to make a video on different sectors so that you can get a better understanding. Buckle up for the first year!!! 😀

Hello, there are firms which are less rigorous as well, like MasterCard which has a better WLB. But again, it's very subjective to what you want in life. If you like the work, it might be bearable and vice versa. So prioritize and choose wisely! :) Will surely come up with a video focusing on ProdMan and GenMan as well so that you guys can get a understand your choices better. To your 3rd point, it is a general MBA but electives help you in understanding a sector better and also - you can mention your courses in your CV - which helps in placements. But there is no guarantee that you can get the electives you want - it's an altogether different process - so can't guarantee a specialization as well.

Hi thanks for this video Prachi! Just wanted to ask it is true for all the teams in Bain or just certain teams? Also if you can mention some roles in which work life balance is there along with a decent pay
@mbawithprachi
@mbawithprachi 17 күн бұрын
Hey, mostly yes. Teams are very dynamic in Bain or any management consulting firm because every 3-6 months you are assigned a new project with which, you work with a new team! And it was not about the team honestly, because I did get a lot of support from my team and the culture at Bain is something Bainies are proud of - but it's more about the nature of work which demands high precision! Honestly, you can find companies with better WLB and decent pay across all the sectors except management consulting and investment banking! :P

Hello, IPM Indore will give you a direct path to MBA but SRCC Economics will keep your options open. So think about your end goal and choose accordingly. Also, SRCC is a good brand + if you feel that when the time comes you will be able to crack CAT and get into IIM ABC - I would personally recommend choosing SRCC given that you don't hate economics!! :P
