Like another viewer (@bonnerdebbie), I have lots of yearbook photos to use. I like the idea of using something no one wants anymore (yearbooks are found very cheaply here in the US, at estate sales and thrift stores), and I also like the idea that these were real people, with real stories. The digitals are always beautiful...maybe a little too much so for my taste. So many look AI-generated to me. That is just a personal preference, not criticism of the gorgeous artwork created here. And being from Europe myself - I don't think I have ever seen a yearbook there. Not done in Germany; I know that for a fact. But if you are in the US - maybe give recycling a try? (Yearbooks from the 20s and 30s are best, imho...but then I have never found one from the 60s. Hmmm...) Thank you as always, Alison, for the inspiration, and I was particularly thrilled to see that you started out with tags that you thought were only so-so. It is good to know that having a background that doesn't excite doesn't need to stop us...beauty can still be created 🙂 Have a great time with your traveling this month! I thought you were actually on the road right now, and was especially happy to still find a video. You are so good to us!
@w0rdsandp1ctures
@w0rdsandp1ctures Күн бұрын
I also have some reservations about the AI images, but sometimes I just get caught by the expression in one or two of the faces. And no, certainly no yearbooks in the UK, nor here in the Czech Republic, and not something I've come across in Europe generally... but there are plenty of old photos out there. I'd love to start working some of our old family photos, but my mother has reservations... even with those we've got multiple versions almost the same. And yes, those "meh" backgrounds sometimes take the best journeys, because I'm utterly unbothered about covering them up!! I actually set off tomorrow morning (early), but I've worked hard to make sure there are videos coming while I'm away... so worry not, but carry on enjoying them! Thank you so much for your lovely, thoughtful comment.

@@w0rdsandp1ctures Alison - I am always in awe of the time you take to reply to comments! (And I'll say right now that no other reply is necessary here, but I HAD to respond.) Thank you, first of all, for not taking what I said as criticism. What I said might have been a little strong. And I know not everyone has access to some materials...I happened to stumble across my first one - from the 1930s - and kept it not knowing at all what I would do with it. I also just inherited a whole lot of old photos, many of them of people long gone, or even unknown. I understand your mother's feelings as I grapple with this myself...I will start with photo copies, I think, while I am such a beginner. But I am sure the original photos will eventually, as I gain confidence, be such a lovely, time-worn, and authentic addition. And I will overcome my scruples, as I did years ago when I first dismantled old books...it takes a moment, and then, it becomes an ok thing to do. Finally - exactly how I will feel with lesser backgrounds....the ones I really like I have such trouble continuing with! I am waiting for my first TH distress spray order (yes, that much of a beginner) and look forward to my first stencil flipping session. There will be some/many? that I won't be nervous about 'ruining', I am sure. Thank you again, and don't reply, or I'll feel guilty. You still must have things to do, or looking forward to calling it a day and relaxing. Oh, and it's late I just realize...good night and bon voyage!

Does tissue paper work differently from rice paper?
@w0rdsandp1ctures
@w0rdsandp1ctures Күн бұрын
Well, yes and no... it depends on the tissue paper, and on the rice paper. Same basic effect - translucent glued onto whatever surface you have - but they may have slightly different textures or porosity or levels of transparency. But one tissue paper can be as different from another tissue paper as it is from rice paper. Sorry - not much of an answer, but every paper is different! Thank you for watching and commenting.

Thank you so much - I'm delighted you enjoyed seeing some of the inspiration behind some of the stamp sets.
