Yes it’s a nice bike. I’ve tried it out. I was quite impressed by the punchy engine and how fun it was on the road. You get a lot of tech for the money. I just wish it had a 21 inch front wheel and tubeless tires. I currently have a Honda Crf250l but I will sell it now and try the 690 enduro.

Thanks for the info. The ground clearance is supposed to be 20cm, how was the bike in the cross winds? Did it feel stable?
@kimomoto
@kimomoto 2 ай бұрын
Thank you! Well I naturally compare it to my Honda crf250. The 450 is much more stable in the wind. But the 450 feels more planted on the road. I guess because of the low centre of gravity and beefier tires.
@jaegermeister1968
@jaegermeister1968 2 ай бұрын
The CF is absolutely stable at higher speeds, max speed is around 160 km/h but you're almost at the limiter. The ideal cruising speed on the motorway is around 120 km and the CF sits firmly on the road. Of course you can feel the crosswind but you can feel that on any adventure bike with an upright seating position. Positive: the buttery smooth gear, the seat, the display, the street light and above all the sound of the exhaust system. The rough throttle response at very low speeds may bother young, spoiled drivers. I've been riding motorcycles since the 80s and it doesn't bother me. My personal opinion: the CF isn't perfect but it has the perfect price/performance ratio. You get a lot of motorcycle with a long warranty for relatively little money. The workmanship is on the level of established competitors.

They are very small issues. You forgot to mention the rockhard seat, but the biggest single issue on the 790 and 890 is that the cams are defective and become very worn down in the middle even before the bike reaches 10,000 km. This is very serious and can be checked at the valve clearance check around 16 k km. sometimes the top of the engine where the cams are located to the whole case needs to be changed. If this is not covered over warranty then it can be a hugely expensive problem to fix and may only last another 10,000. I sold my 790 adventure not knowing this but because of the noise of the engine seemed very industrial like a tractor and it bugged me I don’t know if this has something to do with the design or defective metals they have used in the engine.

That sound is very KTM and Husky, their adventure bikes all sounds like sewing machines 😊. I had the power parts low seat and for some strange reason it’s was pretty comfy. Some of the issues I had I don’t consider small, like for example it was lacking so much oil although it’s was a new bike. Also leaking brake fluid and the cold start issues made me feel every uncomfortable far from home. What bike did you get instead?

Very nice review , I am looking to get the 2021 model as a track and road bike , I liked the way you said that it beats out other super nakeds like mt10 and monster etc .., my question - on track how would you say it compares to the s1000rr ? I am Intermediate level guy on track , still trying to learn a lot , would you say the touono would be good in that way ?
@kimomoto
@kimomoto 2 ай бұрын
Thank you! I can’t compare or comment on how it compares to the s1krr since I haven’t tried that bike on track. It also depends on the track itself and obviously the skill of the rider. If it’s a faster track with long straits and fast corners I guess the BMW would be the better option. But the Tuono beats the single R at least when I’ve compared the two. Nevertheless you can’t go wrong with the Tuono. Enjoy!

The only reason im not buying this is because you cannot wear it twice. One Crash one Deployment and then you need to send it back to Astars which will cost 300bucks. Not worth it in my opinion. But I have to say they did a pretty good job on the vest and they are the only airbag system with that amount of couverage
@kimomoto

Yes you are right. You have to take it to a dealer once deployed and that cost a lot. But you can wear it straight after a deployment as a back protector though. I only deployed it once so far and hopefully not again. The insurance can cover that cost

What was the dificulty about the shifts? Is the gearbox too hard? the lever position? It was not very clear on video, I'm about to book a test drive on a 990. I currently have a Street triple RS and it has one of the best i ever felt on a motorcycle, i want to test a twin, to see how i feel about it (i have tested some twins but not has powerfull, less than 100bhp).
@kimomoto
@kimomoto 4 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for asking! Yeah the problem was that the shift lever was too small and too tucked into the side of the engine. It was somehow hard to reach so I had to bend my foot inwards to the right. Very strange experience. It might be possible to unscrew the lever and pull it out a little bit. I didn’t check that. The Street Triple is much smoother when shifting gears and a much smoother ride overall.

Stability improves by jacking up the rear preload as much as possible. There isn't much suspension here but the extra height settles the bike down on the highway and off road. Plus taking the slack out of the throttle cables helps with the twitchiness.

Thanks for your video. Yes, washing it is a bit of a problem. What I normally do is wipe it down with a wet, soapy cloth after a ride. More recently, I purchased a fabric deodorizer. But there are anti-bacterial fabric sprays that are probably better. As for moving slowly when off the bike, I do the same thing. I’m also afraid of accidental deployment when I’m walking around with it armed. But for all the minor “problems”, it’s definitely worth the extra safety it provides.

Thank you for your clear presentation of the airbag vest. I have a mechanical one from Helite (which i accidentally inflated as well when I lost balance at a stop) and an electronic jacket from Furygan which costs half your Alpinestars but requires a subscription. So in the case nothing happens to you, the cost more or less evens out after 3 years of riding. From your video, it seems the Alpinestars have better protection as it shields the shoulders and goes further down in the back. The Furygan wears more like a bulletproof vest for police officer and don't cover shoulders and stop above the belt. It seems Rev'it developed its own airbag vest based on Alpinestars technology. Safe rides and as we say here: V to you! 🙂

I am surprised you did not have more problems, I have owned 3 KTM bikes, only problems with all of them, my friends also had problems with some of their KTM's I will not buy KTM again until they work a lot more on their reliability. I hope the new BMW F900GS with the enduro spec will be close to the 890 Adventure R since BMW has better reliability even though they are not as good as the Japanese. But except the Yamaha MT-10 and the Kawasaki Z H2 the Japanese only make boring bikes, all categories

Yes you’re right. I got myself a Honda crf now instead. Yes it’s a bit boring compared to the ktm 690 but I’ve got a reliable bike that’s super light weight. The GS looks great though but a bit on the heavy side for my taste.
@mathias6423

@@kimomoto Which CRF did you get ? I rode the CRF 300 rally something a couple of weeks ago, 15 kg lighter than my 690 Enduro but man, 30 hosepower, nowhere near my KTM's 75 horsepower, a lot more boring I think The BMW F900GS is 219 kg fully fuelled, that is not that heavy for a bike you can travel around the world on and ride both on and off-road. It is like 50 kg lighter than the 1250 GS so. Also the KTM 890 Adventure is like 210 kg fully fuelled, that is really good for a bike you can travel far on in full comfort and add bags and stuff. Good luck to you trying to travel around Europe on your Honda CRF, I would dread riding hours on the motorway with a bike like that. I rode 3 hours motorway in July on my KTM 690 Enduro R and that sucked
@kimomoto
@kimomoto Жыл бұрын
@@mathias6423 It all depends on what you intend to use the bike for. For my needs the crf 250l is perfect. It’s a dual sport bike rather than an adventure bike and its light weight which was my number one requirement. I like to go on rides that include gravel and single track. To reach these places I ride roads with a speed limit of 80 km/h. I try to avoid freeways. Riding longer stretches over 100km/h with this bike is not a joy. It gets very windy. But it’s a clean air, not like the 890 AdvR that had a lot of buffeting. I don’t plan on doing long distance motorway traveling on this bike, it’s not what it’s intended for. I do go for longer rides like the TET but that’s fine. The type of riding I do I don’t suffer too much with the lack of power. Sure a 690 would be nice but I doubt that I would use it’s full potential, Im not that good yet in the technical terrain. I like to gain confidence with a smaller capacity bike that is not as intimidating. I can easily pick it up and reach the ground. Three reason why I sold the 890 AdvR was because all the problems it had, I wanted two bikes for the price of one and I wanted a much lighter dual sport. I chose the crf because I want to afford a light weight off road bike and another sports bike for the same money is one 890 Adv. I’m sure the new GS is a great adventure bike both off and on road. We all have different needs and skills. As a beginner off road I think the crf is a good start. The T7 was too top heavy for me and the 890 not reliable enough. Maybe I’ll be good enough in the near future to take on the the new GS. I surely hope so.
@mathias6423
@mathias6423 Жыл бұрын
@@kimomoto Yeah I understand 100% I hate that KTM has so much problems. I am going to keep my 690 Enduro R for riding some TET that "starts" up here in Sweden where I am from. Yeah I agree the T7 was very top heavy and the suspension bottomed out when I test rode it in the woods. The KTM 890 Adventure is much better for that stuff. Yeah, if you are going that route where you have two bikes , one sporty bike for longer rides and pure tarmac I guess the CRF 250 will be perfect to gain a lot of skill off-road and mostly use it for off-road. I can not have two bikes because I live in an apartment without garage and also at the moment because of economy. So I was looking a bit at the 890 adventure for an everything in one bike just like you. However it is too much money for a bike that does not have good reliability, so I will keep my 2020 690 Enduro to ride off and on road on daytrips and some TET which it is perfect for. I have ridden motocross and Enduro bikes since I was 10 years old, I am 38 now in October. My 690 enduro will full system and lighter wheels weigh 153 KG fully fuelled so it is almost 65 kg lighter than the 890 Adventure which is a lot off road. You could pick up the 690 Enduro as easy as an CRF 250 L if it fell off-road, it is not even 10 kg difference in wet weight, so the 250L is very heavy for it's engine displacement. It is however like you said, much less intimidating so it will surely be easier in that way for you to really get the hang of off-road riding with less power. In a couple of years when I have paid all my debts I am going to sell the 690 enduro and buy my dreambike, the Kawasaki H2SX, and I am going to travel through Europe again which I have done 4 times on motorcycle earlier before covid. What sport bike are you going to buy to have beside your CRF 250L? Or did you already buy the sport bike ? Do you plan to travel anything with the sport bike ? Cheers!
