I've driven all these routes a few times, and it still amazes me why those areas between Måløy and Ålesund don't see more tourists. That said, they're excellent alternatives to get away from the main tourist haunts. :)
@safe-keeper1042 Жыл бұрын
I love it when people advertise places and routes off the beaten path. Many of the more well-known sites receive more than enough visitors already. Watched a docu some years ago about how the local police and Red Cross were overwhelmed by the number of rescue operations they had to conduct for unprepared tourists hiking to Trolltunga, for example. Getting tourists to spread out more means more people get to experience those places, local shops, guides, hotels, and so on get more business, and the more popular sites get some relief. Win-win.

Really solid piece of filmmaking. Very good work. Gunstein Myre’s solid work in the chase car and building the sequencing with his shot selection afforded you the room to concentrate on the storytelling. What truly elevated the piece is the time and effort you spent in post. From the opening graphic of the route, to your pacing, to your color correction… each element creates a strong and cohesive whole. Finally, your music choices were spot on. Never cloying, always amplifying the emotion, advancing the narrative with its own voice. It is clear these are a labor of love, and the care shines through in every frame. Nice work.

When you run out of words (even though you have a way with them), I get it. Norway is beyond words, simply majestic-heaven on earth if there ever is one. I can’t wait to go back and experience it in all its splendor on a bicycle. Your channel and content will be of great inspiration when I get to plan my trip. I’ve been to Geiranger, Øye, Ålesund and I think you’ll take us to some of these places? Can’t wait. And can’t wait to put others on my bucket list. I've been toying with a thought about a little cycling trip to Stavanger (yeah, my bike is called Stavanger) from Finland, either from Oulu where I live or from Helsinki where my bike manufacturer is based on. These videos do not help at all to calm down the fever! Although I've only recently started to sketch my route, I wish I could be already riding and making my way to Norway. I fell in love with cycling in Norway when I cycled from Olderfjord to Alta and from there to Kautokeino via the Arctic Post Route up on the Finnmark and I've been wanting to get back there ever since. The scenery and harshness and sheer beaty of the nature is just so overwhelming wherever you look. And Matthew, please keep up the awesome work you do but remember to take some time for yourself as well and leave the cameras home once in a while!

I am not the least bit of a cyclist but a huge fan of Norway and you show this country at its best! TOP. Thank you for your wonderfull videos full of inspiration for the next visit. There is one thing to add. As far as I know every weather forecast is split in south and north of Stadtlandet for it is such an important weatherbarrier.
@progster999 Жыл бұрын
I did Stadtlandet and Vestkapp five days after I did Norangsdalen in June 1990 and one year after I did North Cape. Vestkapp was pretty poor compared to NorthCape and Norangsdalen and I have forgotten most of it. But I can brag that I have been to the most western and northern piece of rock of Norway. That is the purpose of Vestkapp. I still got the diploma I bought at Vestkapp.

Amazing videos. They are so inspiring and I am now destined for cycling Norway instead of the Alps. So much better now than your earlier videos where it was hard to find where you were on google maps. Now you show much more city names and locations. But there is still place for improvement. For instance I can not find the valley you cycle in from 10.32 in this video. It would be just perfect with even more texts to show where you are, so it is easy to find on Google maps.

Hey Mathew, you are really dragging me into it … starting for the EuroVelo1 from Bergen … in 2 weeks! After all that months of preparing my bike, the still remaining question is „fenders on the GravelBike, or not“ for the journey to Nordkapp? 😅😅😅😅
@matthewnorway Жыл бұрын
Most people who do long distance routes in Norway add fenders. You will experience wet days and they will help keep you and your bags a bit cleaner. But they aren't essential, and do add additional weight.

..when I go up hills on a bicycle - it really dont feel like "its the most effective way of transport" - a condor soaring up a hillside beats me every time...
@gvg0123 Жыл бұрын
What makes the climb especially hard is that you get that false sense of 'this is easy' when you've ridden along those lakes for a while when you see that 6km to Vestkapp sign. But then the climb starts and when you think you're about to get to the top, you see that road snaking to the left of you and you know you've actually only just started. Was there on a sunny day during the summer holidays. Doesn't feel as remote then, with a lot of people enjoying the fantastic views.
@matthewnorway Жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you. I underestimated that climb but it's well worth the struggle! Was there many cars at the top during summer?

Dude amazing video, but am I the only one who's like, why have your helmet on if it's not done up? Helmets have saved my life twice and my wife's life once, but they were secured properly. Dude you are a legit cycling influence now, please display robust safety advice, especially if you are encouraging new cyclists to unknown and cold/wet terrain.
