Awesome, congrats on the impressive lift! I am only at 295lbs for 3 reps, my goal is 315lbs this year, starting at 135lbs in March. How long did it take for you to train from 135lbs to 500lbs?

Hmm tough to recall! The first time I ever did straight bar deadlifts I worked up to a "tough" 225 single. Within 3 or 4 months, I was up to a 405 single. It then took probably about another 3ish years before I got up to 500lbs. That being said, I rarely trained the trap bar deadlift at this time and working up to 500 was mostly on a whim. The carry over from straight bar lifting makes the trap bar quite easy, comparatively. Just keep getting those lifts in with consistency and you'll smash that 315 with ease!

It's surprising how few people can understand or explain NO. Even Scott Hermann, who did it for 30 days, measured his traps at the end of 30 days and said "I got some gains", when the point is not stimulus, rest, adaptation (iron, netflix, gains) but to prime the muscle for future growth. Those who criticise it tend to say "30 days is not long enough for a training effect", again, missing the point. I, like you, did a ton of traps work, daily, before I had ever heard of NO, and now my traps grow so fast I have to back off on the direct work.

As someone who has struggled with “feeling” chest in pressing exercise, doing 2-3 sets of 15-20 reps of band flies before pressing has really helped me out! Focus on the squeeze and building a mind-muscle connection, not just knocking out reps quick.

There’s another video in which the guy just does a clean, and does a front squat. This looks easier and like you can do more weight. Does anyone know if this approach is bad for your lower back?
@hildebrandspencer
@hildebrandspencer 2 жыл бұрын
“Bad” is a relative term. It may be “bad” for someone who hasn’t developed adequate strength, mobility and loading tolerance to a specific spinal position. Doing properly loaded (starting very light and slowly adding load) spinal movements such as back extensions, side bends and jefferson curls can help build those tolerances.

The standard protocol is to drop all other related work to the muscles involved. I do it with chins a couple times a year and during those blocks I don’t do any rowing or bicep work to avoid being completely slaughtered. That being said, if you still wanna try the way you described, have at it!

Wow what a compliment! Dieting and hard training has never been fun for me. I usually do a “diet” during the busy season at work when I’m not lifting at all. It’s mostly just matching my caloric intake without how much I move. I end up dropping 10-15lbs for summer but always with the plan of gaining it back when I start lifting consistently again!
@dah_goofster
@dah_goofster 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there a style of weightlifting that I haven’t seen anyone else implement and one that I’ve seen by far the most results from. I’m wondering if this is similar to nucleus overload. Once you finish your set to failure have a buddy force you to do 3-4 more reps while he spots you. When I say spot I mean he does about 80% of the work but forces you to struggle thru them. In between sets flex your worked muscle and lean into the pump. By the time you leave the gym you shouldn’t be able to even use that muscle but the gains are insane. Cant find anyone who will do this with me after I lost my original workout partner, the mental fortitude is insane to try and keep form once your muscle is done for

@hildebrandspencer
@hildebrandspencer 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think I was doing any overhead pressing at the time. Just leaving the front delt alone to get hit with my chest pressing. How were the results? It’s a bit tough to say if that specific time of training built much delt mass but I would certainly say it set me up to make some great delt gains! A couple years later, I went from no delts to them being one of my better upper body attributes!

Just as much time as you need for a full recovery! I took about 10 days off of any direct shoulder work and that was plenty of time for me to start into a more sustainable training frequency.

I am day 7 on bicep nuclei overload. Day 4 & 5 sucked. I am over the hump now. I am still doing my normal work out plus it. It really sucks on push day to do a full bicep work out on top of it. I think like anything the body will adapt.

I see it the opposite! The squat rack encourages ego lifting as there is very little skill required when loading up weight in that manner. I would venture to say squatting outside of the rack is actually much safer and has a much lower risk of injury.

@@ates423 its fine to do that ofc. Im just saying that this other guys' arguments come straight out of his arse. How does a squat rack encourage ego lifting? @hildebrandspencer
@hildebrandspencer 2 жыл бұрын
How much can you squat IN a rack versus OUTSIDE of a rack? It’s a safe bet that having no rack is greatly going to decrease the absolute load involved which inherently will bring the injury risk down. In almost any setting 400lbs on your back will be more dangerous than 200lbs, don’t you agree?

What’s the point of the deficit. I’m new to this lol
@hildebrandspencer
@hildebrandspencer 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Short answer: making a lift harder rather than easier will have more carry over to your “regular” lifts. Example: To get a high handle trap bar deadlift stronger, for the most part, you just have to try harder. Now to get a deep deficit, low handle trap bar deadlift stronger... you actually just have to get stronger!

I enjoyed this video and I thought it to be common sense the harder you work a muscle, the more its going to grow. That's why I don't really understand and get lost in the "do this, don't do that" on KZbin. You have few doctors telling you if you wanna get swole, you have to life heavy! Then you got a few others saying no no, you have to lift a ton of reps and this will get you huge or leaner. My personal experience is just intensity in general and its all about nutrition. I'm currently doinga 6-8 rep program and going to try this for a while but I am very interested in this theory, and maybe after I finish this one I'll try a high high rep one. Great video!
@hildebrandspencer
@hildebrandspencer 3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the kind words! I think pairing a smaller muscle group with high frequency training would compliment your heavy 6-8 rep lifting very well! The cool kids these days are calling it “powerbuilding”
