@@Hoffibranding I think the biggest take-home here leads to a much grander point about the human psyche at large TODAY, as opposed to decades past - And that's that our general collective way of thinking simply doesn't want to live in that classic culture of fear anymore. People at large these days are becoming more drawn to the positive things in life, like hope for example. Fewer people than ever (relative to population) are tuning into the news because they just don't want to be fed what doesn't feel good anymore, and 99% of our news media is driven by fear. Hollywood is also being CRIPPLED by this realization right now because they've just been doing the same old thing, movies about disasters, etc. And box office returns are lower than ever. Hence...A new story that humanizes Superman in a completely different way this time, so that hope has a completely new perspective. I dunno, just spitballin' here!

i found that by keeping my old facebook. i felt anchored into my past. not that there was anything wrong with it. but it was old me not who i am now. so it eneded up being a drain on me. i have had to get away from myself many times over my life. in order for me to step into who i can be. i just shifted to ticktok and made sure i didn't add any old friends. and instantly i felt more free to be me. i'll go back to fb and insta eventually. but i'll be a different person then. far enough away from who i was that i cant go back and be anchored into my past. i'll have grown. i think there is an awakening. that following is giving away power on some level. i have big resistance to anyone who has a title. eg guru healer coach dr. each of those identities can create deification not empowerment. interesting topics as always man.

Good question. From my perspective I follow people based on topics they talk about. But I can get into a totally new hobby just because someone I follow does videos on it, eg fashion, history, sowing, economics. interesting topic! as a neurodivergent person, those subtle cues you mentioned in face-to-face conversation don't exist for me. i find it easier to be emotionally open through text as opposed to phone calls or in-person conversations. however, i do empathize with that feeling of being alone in our hyper-connected age. in my opinion, the bigger culprit is the fear of missing out. you already mentioned the overwhelming number of experiences available on the internet, but it's important to note that they're small, sanitized snippets taken from an entire lifetime. it can easily feel like your own life is dull or isolated when it isn't stuffed with an unrealistic amount of instagram-worthy memories. if you'll let me get conspiratorial for a second, i believe this is by design. social media platforms clearly exploit your fear of missing out, but i think they also benefit from empathy fatigue - the more you commodify your emotions, carefully budget your emotional processing power across 100 tweets instead of "splurging" on 1, and spend hours scrolling through more content instead of engaging with one meaningful thing, the more ads you see and the more money these platforms make.

@maedetheone3 ай бұрын
Interesting read, thank you for posting! I am also neurodivergent and agree on your take on FOMO. Another aspect, in my view even more damaging, is the sense I get from the world that we are collectively un-learning our ability to exist and be happy within diverse groups of humans, to feel connected to and interact with others who don't all share our own views. Because this is not something we are born with, this is a skill that we learn and get better in by actually interacting with others who don't all share our own views. Today's technology allows us to aggressively seek out only those contacts that we specifically choose, while existing in the physical world without any real interaction / interdependence / care for the rest. People are more and more self-absorbed and seem to view those around them not really as fellow humans any longer, but simply as obstacles on their way through their day. This manifests in reduced random interaction with strangers (further increased by the ongoing loss of third places), lower regard for others in daily things such as queueing at the grocery checkout, exaggerated suspicion of strangers, increased road rage, a hardening of political stances, more and more us-versus-them mentality, loss of progress in the acceptance of minorities, gender diversity, etc. The rise especially in the younger generations of people who will cut each other out of their lives at the first sign of disagreement or interpersonal conflict is really worrying me. I don't have any good answers to this.

@@Hoffibranding On an individual level, I think the focus does not even need to be really on trying to "solve" anything, but to live by example and to remind others of the beauty and importance of real, meaningful exchanges in our daily lives. People who are well selected that i'd enjoy working with long term. each of us will elevate each other. so i suppose i'm thinking of creating a community / netowrk. what saying all this out for myself now has actually cut out a lot of stuff. i felt, unconsciously, that i had to get a lot of people together and that demotivated me. rather than just checking in on a much smaller amount. high touch networking (my new term) Thanks for making me think.

love that man. I've thought about success a lot. and we think of it as a thing. your successful .... or full of success.. like its some quantifiable "thing" but i successfully put on my socks today for the 9 millionth time but i don't "feel" like a success. when we get out of the idea that success is a "thing" we start to see that success is actually a feeling. you either feel successful or you don't. we have all heard of the person who worked hard and made loads of money and all that success but still felt like a failure. the quantifiable did not solve the emotional issues. so my semi joke is that we choose to be successful, once we choose to acknowledge what we have already done (that we value) we start to feel successful. (i don't value putting on my socks so i don't feel successful) When we get into logging our success we start to compound them. which when we do enables us to deal with failure much more easily and actually turn that into successes. eg when we learn something from failure we turn it into a success. side note. which might be an idea for you moving forward. is i'm starting to work on telling my story much more in a marketing sense. how to marry stories and information. like i shared above that is just information and thoughts. but no real story to it. so as i'm thinking about all this now. maybe telling the story of how my clients started to feel more successful by adjusting their perception on success or actually understanding it deeper?
@Hoffibranding6 ай бұрын
I think that’s a great way to think about it. We definitely have to find meaning in what we do. Otherwise as you say we will never think we can achieve anything.
