Ok, the game is bad, but what about a "Back" arrow don't you understand? If you play games at all it is clear you're supposed to be adding units and magic in that screen. I thought I was going to enjoy the video dunking on what is obviously a shit game and was in that zone till you showed either total ignorance or obtuseness when it came to even trying to extrapolate the functionality of the UI which you could figure out if you did any critical thinking. Not that the game deserved a longer video, or a video at all, but watching you muddle around was equally painful. Still I hope you refunded what is obviously a POS. And they want $65 USD for a broken asset steal... amazing.

Who cares if an asset is free or not? Neither of them are yours either... That can still make the game bad or good. This pooling of assets in itself is not a very good thing... if you paid for it, if you didn't. I don't understand what you expected from an amateur survival game? They are all the same.
@earlyaccesscontrol59668 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. In certain situations I think using asset packs might be okay in some respects, and you are right about the pooling of these assets. Too many games using the same free assets just washout the genre and make survival games really bland. And yes they are all the same for the most part!

I have loved early access games since Minecraft and The Forest. Sadly, there are many ambitious developers who get discouraged or fail to make great games. I personally still enjoy early access games immensely. Every major update makes me want to play the game from the start again. It's like a new game all over again. It is always sad to see a good game not make it to that great status but it doesn't get me down when a game is abandoned or lost to any issues simply because of the incredible amount of fantastic games out there. I think 90 days is a bit rough to consider a game abandoned. Developers have lives beyond their games, but sometimes, they are quiet because they're working/planning out their games. -Example: Raft. Though not for everyone, Raft is immensely well received, high player count game (especially for the genre) and IMO a fantastic product. Yet it had 88 days of silence between chapter 1 and 2 and almost 6 month silence when working on the final chapter. They were silent simply because they were working on massive updates. -Another example: Terrerria. Again not for everyone, Terrierria is an incredibly popular game that in 2016 was thought to be abandoned. So much so that another game, Starbound (a game I played an incredible amount of but hasn't seen any updates for years) launched on the premise that they wouldn't abandon their game like Terrerria had. Overall, I love your channel and the premise you made it on. I don't share the same level of concern for abandoned games but I do think truly abandoned games should be highlighted. It's clear you're a smart and inciteful person and that as many of us dedicated gamers, you love games. I'm excited to sub to your channel and watch this space for more great videos. Keep up the fantastic work and thanks for the content. 💖

The Genre is settlement sim. This is my second favourite genre, but overall the genre is incredibly lacking. From your comments, I don't think you're the target audience, so you'll likely always not like the game as you don't like the core mechanics (and point) of the game. I think you should play a game more before reviewing it, BUT you hit all the issues most people have with the game, especially people who don't like the genre (who could be converted to enjoy the game). I don't think you will ever enjoy this game though, sadly. Most of all, if you don't play it enough to see the core mechanics working. As in actually building and growing the settlement. Again though, your attention to detail and honesty was great imo. :) - I entirely agree that the inventory is poorly implemented, especially for the genre. Things should absolutely stack in the player inventory (as it does in stockpiles and settlement chests), I can't agree more. I always prefer better gameplay over "realism". - The game currently has many more towns, you can zoom out on the map even at the start of the game and see where they are. - Every game in this genre has this mini building game that was first seen from The Forest and continued in games such as Green Hell. I think it's intended for realism, immersion, and as an effort/reward system. I also don't love it. It's far worse in Medieval/Sengoko dynasty (two other settlement sims) because it costs stamina. In this game, you can make your settlers build for you if you don't enjoy the feature, which is great. - Eating food does increase health and stamina giving you a buff as first seen in Valheim. It also heals you, low quality food hardly heals and buffs but later food (cooked) makes a big difference (just as in Valheim). Food for settlers needs work, indeed. They often walk off with low food and get mad at you that they walked half way across the map where you didn't even have a building or dropped loot. AI is always an issue in these games, it seems incredibly hard to code well. - It's not like Enshrouded at all. That's a survival game, not a settlement sim. - I wish you tried the combat, it's stand out in this game for the genre. It's directional combat such as in their previous (review bombed title - due to hacking issues) Last Oasis. This game has more features than most in the genre. My favourite feature is that you can make signs for fast travelling around the map. It takes a lot of the pain out of returning to town for quests etc. It's more hostile than other in the genre, too, which I think is a massive plus. It makes you feel like you're actually helping people to put them in your settlement. Most other games in the genre are so safe that it feels inauthentic and dull. I personally like the game a lot, despite it's limitations but I AM very much the target audience as I said, I love this genre. :)
@earlyaccesscontrol59668 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for your well-thought-out comment. I appreciate it very much. It certainly is difficult to review a game in such short periods and often is quite unfair to the developers. This is not lost on me. Also you are right I don't think I am the target audience, so perhaps this video will help similar games make a decision on whether to give it a go or not. Unfortunately, I am 99% I am refunding, and to be honest your comment helped me decide that! Thanks

This is one of those things, like CubeWorld(?) , that I think is a really interesting concept, one I would love to take over as one of my first games to make, as I think that original aesthetic would work really well in a sort of survival/(MMO)RPG kind of game that I am trying to make. Games like these show a good amount of potential, I could think of some systems that would spice things up so well, imagine a rock-paper-scissors kind of system where you need to have different gear to progress through resource gathering. Anyways, this turned into a rambling comment... I just remembered this game and find it such a shame that it got abandoned. Looked for the devs on steam, their gamecraft idea I can't find and apparantly they made robocraft which was a fun thing a few years ago.

Very playable state? LMAO my guy, the game is an abandonware cash grab. Sure the game launches and runs, but it's also unstable AF. They were also collecting voice data through their voice chat system and didn't disclose that fact. Someone called them out on the Steam discussion boards and they ended up getting banned with absolutely no reason given. Straight up ban if you called them out (or still do) on their BS, excuses and lies. The game is broken in so many ways it's horrid. When your body spawns outside the map, that's a big problem. When save games break constantly, that's a big problem. When the AI phases to the point you can't shoot bad guys or animals - that is a broken game. Dare I mention the invisible walls an holes in the map you can fall through at any time? There is no way to defend this game what so ever. It is bad, a dead game and that's the reality of the situation with Outlaws of The Old West.

I sincerely wish Steam will make some kind of feedback system, which enables users to notify Steam of an inactive, yet buyable game, which hasn't been updated in years. Only way developers could counter this system is to keep users from reporting them, therefore, keep Steam from checking their development status. And always nice with videos! :)

i talked to the Lead developer from what I gather he basically said they were contracted to develop the game and snail games owned the rights to the game, they Had a patch ready to release as the final patch and they publisher said no. and what happened was the devs said screw it we got other things to do. if this was owned by virtual basement they would have finished the game.
@SuperTime2Change2 жыл бұрын
Virtual Basement is just as bad as the publisher. The way they have treated people since this game launched is deplorable. They also should have made the agreement so that the contract cannot be terminated until the game is finished so as to not tarnish their reputation. Total lack of foresight to protect their reputation. Instead, they chose the contract as you go approach and it screwed everybody, but Wandering Wizard (Snail Games). Snail Games had enough of a game base to cash grab and that was their intention all along using Virtual Basement as a scapegoat. They're still cash grabbing until the game is eventually forced off Steam by valve - if it ever is. Valve is happy with it all though. The game's been reported many, many times and they've done nothing to get involved because not enough noise has been made by the masses (big media coverage included) and Valve gets that wonderful 30% cut from every sale that continues to be made. Everybody in the business side be milking the cows.

@@SuperTime2Change oh the devs had no bussiness communicating with the public at all, they are not trained to deal with anything in regards to public relations, I am not mad or hold anything against them but they are going to do what makes them money and that would be with every ark expansion pack that comes out. they are not worried about a game that did VERY poorly in terms of sales and not to even mention a game they don't own or no longer have anything to do with it. Jaime should be really the only guy that should be talking to anyone in the public, the other guy forgot his name really has no bussiness talking to anyone. but again they are not going to dump resources or time into a 20 dollar game that has done poorly in terms of sales.
@SuperTime2Change2 жыл бұрын
@@pdmftw1 Jamie? I talked to him. Asked a bunch of questions. He didn't want to talk about much. None of them should be at the forefront of communicating with the public. They all generally suck at it. They don't really have that great of people and communication skills. That's what PR managers and teams are for. Both companies were unprofessional and scummy through the whole ordeal after the game went into Early Access. That's why a huge part of the community left in the first place. When you get treated like crap by two companies working on the same thing, you know things aren't going to end well for the consumer. Both companies still collect on that game. No justice for the consumer because no regulations set by Valve to enforce fair consumer rights. Also I will mention the fact that a bunch of cash that was made from Outlaws of The Old West was dropped onto their next game called The Wrestling Code. This was way before the contract was dissolved. So, Virtual Basement are no innocents by any means. They have pulled some pretty scummy business practice. That is a really, really shameful thing to do when you're not even done creating the project you were contracted to work on in the first place.
