We are also in Ohio and undercoat all of our equipment with Fluid Film every Fall prior to the salt and it makes a huge difference on the longevity of the machines. Have trucks and trailers that are 10 yrs + and frames still look new. You can also use Surface Shield ect. but def need something as a barrier.

I got an N&N galvanized trailer in Michigan when we drove from Alaska to Eastonmade to get our splitter. The markups are so great here it didn’t cost more than a painted one locally. Totally rust free after two winters so far!
@FatBrainTray11 күн бұрын
Rub the rust areas with some Linseed oil, you can get it cheap at Lowes or Walmart. Or try some other type of fluid film to the problem areas. The Ohio turnpike uses this stuff on their winter maintenance vehicles, for rust prevention.
@kendriedger1517 күн бұрын
Hi Joe Good on getting salt off of your equipment ! Wondering why you didn't set the washer control box to SOAP ...it cleans a lot better than on Rinse !! Maybe you should take out the ramps and store them in one of your shops til you need them !!!😊
@thekentuckian837511 күн бұрын
Hey. They make a rust converter, spray or liquid. I’ve used it before. Would be a perfect time to use it on your trailer. Stops the rust then you spray paint over it. Amazon has it. Might add a couple of years to your trailer.

Hi Joe. Thanks for another view into a delivery service in the winter. Road salt is the worst. Just washed my truck last night on the way home from work. My garage is heated so I can get it clean even in this bitter weather. But it was so cold the doors a little froze by the time I got home. Keep warm buddy! Have a great day 👍🏻
@BobEstler10 күн бұрын
You should look into getting the bottoms side underrated on your trailer. That and the front edge where its getting blasted by stuff coming off the truck wheels should extend the life.

How about using spray bed liner on the areas that tend to get damaged/rust?
@WoodysRTBFirewood10 күн бұрын
Hey Joe, a simple solution is to buy once, cry once and buy a galvanized trailer. Your Moritz trailer will eventually look like your other trailer when you live in the north where road salt is used. I would recommend sand blasting , then priming followed by paint in the spring. Unfortunately it’s a case of pay me now or pay me later. Woody !!

It sounds like the whole country has been cold and snowy, except for southern California and I wouldn't want to trade with them. I was thinking of a subject you might want to cover sometime when the wood business is slow is an episode about the various chain saws you use, especially the cordless ones. I remember you started with a wally world one and it seems like you have moved up a couple times to more professional models. I'd like to hear what you think of them all. Stay warm, Spring is only 56 days away!

@cannibalchainsaw10 күн бұрын
I'd try to paint those areas with Valspar Tractor and implement paint. It's really durable as far as the rocks and dirt hitting those front corners. On the spots that are already a little rusty you could use a rust converter. It turns rust into a hard shiny black surface that won't rust again and you can paint over it.

As others have said. Fluid film is a great product to prevent corrosion. The trick is to spray the trailer, or truck during the dry months (summer) let this build up a layer of dust and grime. Re apply a coat in the early fall. This allows the oils time to soak into the metal.
@jamesminard186711 күн бұрын

Hi Joe. Driving delivery vehicles and trailers in the winter conditions certainly shortens their life. This is an expense many people don't consider in their business plan. It’s a battle unless your trailer is galvanized. We have the same problem here with salt and brine. If you check out my trailer maintenance video. I ran a lawn care business in Indianapolis for 17 years. I had a dump trailer similar to yours. Each spring I’d give it a thorough wash down and a fresh coat of paint. I sold it when I sold my business for almost what I paid for it. Additionally I used snow plow hydraulic fluid in it and it would work year round no matter how low the temperature would get!
@tedferry40811 күн бұрын
Depending on how much longer you are going to stay in the fire delivery business, it might be time to invest in a galvanized trailer, trade/sell the one you have and invest in one.

Joe, you could take a wire brush & clean the rust. Then get some paint & go over the rusty spots. Or go to Thumbs Trailer sales in Michigan and buy you a N&N galvanized trailer. Tell them Chris sent you. We had -11F this morning in S. E. Ohio. Stay warm and safe
@jrmorrissey20710 күн бұрын
A "wire brush" isn't going to do it. It needs to be sanded to bare metal, primed correctly with real primer from a NAPA or automotive store, then painted to match. NAPA can custom make paint in a spray can to match the factory color. It's about as simple a project as it gets.
