I have no doubt in my mind that your processor with the box wedge is the fastest splitter with the highest quality output on KZbin. It's literally the only one that gets filmed that truly outputs cords of perfectly sized wood that don't need any resplitting. It's truly impressive!!

Hi Joe - it’s Big Rodders in Ireland. I have a similar story to relate. Some years ago I had a large vertical splitter powered by both a PTO driven pump or a single phase 240v electric motor. The PTO driven pump was more powerful and faster and gave the impression of greater output. However, I tested it on both over a number of full days’ work and was surprised to find that my daily output was the same overall. Thereafter I only used it on electric as that was quieter, cheaper and more relaxing to operate. It’s strange how first impressions may not be accurate.
@ohiowoodburner5 күн бұрын
I do think here in the states we could embrace electric for our home production but we have a love affair, as do I, would our internal combustion engines
@rodneysweetnam86535 күн бұрын
X@@ohiowoodburner Big Rodders again. I too enjoy my ICE motors, especially my motorcycles, chainsaws & outboard. However, mains electric motors have many advantages when it comes to log splitting. You in the US of A have additional challenges with 115v circuits while we use 240v. In mainland Europe there is widespread use of 3 phase 400v systems, which open up even more opportunities.

The way we use firewood, for heating a home, having a variety of split sizes (including those larger ones) is absolutely perfect. Selling commercial firewood for something other than heating is a completely different situation, but it still seems crazy that you would resplit a piece of firewood that you can pick up with one hand to stack or load. That's just me and I get that your customers want the smaller pieces.
@elainereid58336 күн бұрын
At 11:20 mark, you did well to rotate that big log in order for it to fit, good job! Joe, I bet you’d enjoy running that machine for hours if you didn’t have to stop and stack. I put a 7 way box wedge with a pullback arm on my Eastonmade 48C, I call it the (Precise Split) it is defiantly slower but when I'm done with the log pile there is no re-splitting needed. The only drawback it the amount of slash that it produces but I am working on a plan for that. I can't wait to see the 90X in action. I thought it would have been at Bunyan. Great video!

Joe, great video. I think you have what I would call a well tuned machine. It’s amazing how clean the wood is when it leaves the knives. Your shrinkage looks to be quite low. I think if you split for 6 hrs with the 6 or 8 way & then split with your perfect split for 6 😅hours you would be way ahead of the game by not having to dig out & resplit the oversized pieces. ❤ your videos, keep them coming. Dave D from Maine. Have a great day.👍

Great looking firewood! Always better to take a little longer split to proper size right away. Dries faster , a pain to resplit. Japa perfect split really looks like a good system.

@craigpeterson17366 күн бұрын
I totally agree. I was scoping out the processors at Bunyan and I really like the wood pile from the Japa perfect split the best. I cringe a little at how large 6 and 8 way wedges make splits because that adds a whole ‘nother re-split task.

Great video (as always!), Joe. It's very cool to see those perfect sized pieces produced so efficiently. And, also good to see that you could produce the "hearth" (not sure that's the right term, but what I think about for perfect fireplace pieces - not as rough as boiler wood, but not as small as bundle wood). Anyway, keep up the good work and great videos!

You should think about a second utility trailer. Get an old beater, cheap-is-better just for the wood yard would be good investment. Another load ready to stack. Not double production but definitely increase it. Would make up for rain outs and really bad weather days. What do you think?

What the ACTUAL max size the 405 can handle you would think 405mm but my 2016 Japa 435 can handle 470mm + 18.5 inch or so just interested , will make a video at some point showing the condition of the unit after at least 4300 hours of operation . But for interest the parts the previous owner broke were the pull back arm , parts on the convayor the underside of the convayor is made up of about 3 thin sheets of steel some have seperated , the nylon hinge support are almost all cracked ( replaceable part ) the green part on the rams missing , no sign of the gas strut ( replaced it (390mm 700n! ( 160 pounds of force required )) . The vibrating tables weak for some reason . But overall goes ok

@ohiowoodburner6 күн бұрын
I guess it comes down to what type of wood you want to make. If you are constantly resplitting that would prob mean you have the wrong machine. The big prob though is being able to afford what you want...so it makes sense to do what you can with what you have
@1966poker6 күн бұрын
Your machine does great with the perfect split and no re-splits. The Japa is a great machine for that smaller split wood.
@DaleFarrish-Dalbet3 күн бұрын
It depends on the processor. I have a Wallenstein and with the seating position beside the splitting chamber I can just flip the big piece back in and rerun it. My buddies Blacks Creek is the same way. The bigger processors don't allow you to do that, they really are meant for production splits and not precision splits. The Japa and perfect split are the way to go for consistent size splits.
