I wear flat shoes but I get cramps every time I play sports in the rain or when my feet are exposed to cold water. The only thing that gives relief is when I put them in warm water for 5mins. No exercise helps when the cramps are bad. Putting them in warm water is the only solution for me so far.

Do you have options for hammer toe reversal too?
@correcttoes3 күн бұрын
Yes, if you take a look at our other exercise video- "5 foot strengthening exercises" you'll see a stretch specifically for hammer toes. It is the stretch where you pull your toes down and back (can do this with foot in lap, sitting in a chair with your foot on the ground and pointed down and back).

Why is Dr. McClanahan the only one on the entire internet/KZbin that explains why you are getting the problem in the first place and explains the underlining problems simplistically. My physical therapist did not explain the the reason for the problem and why the therapy would heal the condition. I have found this therapy essential to not only help ease the discomfort but also contribute to curing the problem. Thanks you, Dr. McClanahan

With or without I'll fitting shoes, I'd still have bunions. Grandma has them,mum had them! It really has LITTLE to do with shoes.
@correcttoes18 күн бұрын
That is actually a myth. Genetics play a role in how much movement your joints, ligaments, etc have. Essentially how likely are you to have more stretch to your joints. This is what can be carried over to bunions. But shoes are what cause that movement and misalignment, not genetics. Therefore, ill-fitting shoes do play a large role in how bunions are formed.

That doesn't explain my having this condition. I started working from home 10 years ago and never wore shoes again, always in flip flops and sitting. However, this became a problem when I began exercising again, yet it was barefooted since I was doing martial arts. So, I'm really at a lost as to why I've been struggling with this for two years and nothing works.
@correcttoesАй бұрын
Shoes are most definitely not the only culprit. It can be anything that causes trauma or stress on your feet. Any activity can do this and it's not to say we should stop being active. However, we can reduce pain, prevent it, and treat it quickly when we know the issue. Everyone responds to stress differently, consider speaking with a professional on how to reduce the pain and prevent further pain when practicing martial arts/

In all honesty I have been advised for over 20 years not to wear flat shoes. I bought a pair of barefoot trainers as my Morton's was getting beyond painful to the point where I couldn't differentiate where the point of pain was and my legs had decided to disown me. I still put my arch supports in them and although my metatarsal are still painful I can walk in these trainers better than anything I have tried. No more ordinary trainers for me.

@correcttoesАй бұрын
Our biggest suggestion is to treat your feet like any other muscle group. It will take time to strengthen them enough to be comfortable in a barefoot shoe. Go slow, try foot strengthening exercises, and listen to your body. you can also try a shoe like Altra which offers a bit more cushion.

You mentioned that many times before someone gets this information their adductor hallucis becomes too tight and doesn't allow the big toe to come back to a natural position. Instead, if correct toes are used, then the big toe overpowers and moves the other toes out of alignment. What would be a way to overcome this? Would a nightly splint to try and move the big toe to a better position be effective over time to allow that movement and then use the correct toes after?
@correcttoesАй бұрын
We are unsure of your question or statement. Correct toes are used to overcome the tightened adductor hallucis.

This makes sense, but I'm confused: why does my foot hurt so much worse if I *don't* sleep with the splint? Also, it's nearly impossible for me to find foot-shaped, wide toe box shoes with zero drop that actually fit my (female) 2E feet. Altras have gotten more narrow and no longer work; Topo felt great except the midfoot narrowing is just too tight (they seem to think the ball and toes area is wide but the midfoot narrows to half that width...?). Lems also did not work: not wide enough, and couldn't get the length right (9 too short, 9.5 too long). Even these three brands are difficult to find locally to try on, and ordering online is a huge pain in the behind. Tomorrow I have an appointment with a foot specialist, after 8 months of shifting pain (plantar fasciitis AND fasciosis symptoms, tarsal tunnel syndrome pain, and likely infracalcaneal bursitis -- when this started, I could not even set my heel on the floor for a month or more). After 8 months of intense research, I have a lot of misgivings about what he'll say and what he'll recommend. But I can't keep guessing at what might be the cause and how to heal it. Nothing I've tried has worked for more than a day or so, except the Correct Toes help a little when worn every day. (I can't wear them in my shoes, though -- no shoes wide enough.) It's maddening and frustrating when even doctors seem to have no idea how to fix this type of debilitating problem.

Hello Dr Ray, I am using correct toes and just bought zero drop shoes. My plantar fasciitis is still there but some days better than others. I need you to tell me besides the exercise that you suggest curling toes under which makes a hell of a lot more sense to me than stretching the hell out of the foot the other way. Do you still suggest stretching calves regularly, using massage ball under foot, or will these irritate me further?

In moderation, these can be very helpful and pain relieving. For PF specifically, it's tackling the dead tissue and preventing the bottom of the foot from getting reduced blood flow.

My podiatrist laughed at me when I told him about the Dr. Harvey Lemont study. And he also was condescending and dismissive to me when I asked about PRP injection for my PF that has been going on for 9 years with no relief after every conservative, nonsurgical treatment. He told me to keep doing RICE and stretching because there “wasn’t any literature for PRP and PF”. I sought a second opinion from a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation doctor. I got my PRP injection three days ago and I already have relief from the pain I had from a TORN PF at the calcaneal insertion of the central band. I also use the Correct Toes because I stand for 12+ hours/day when at work. I switched to zero drop shoes, specifically Altra, Flux Footwear, and Topo. I am doing PT to strengthen my intrinsic foot muscles and calves. I found Dr. Ray through Dr. Angela Walk - The Plantar Fasciitis Doc. I love watching the evolution of this disorder and its pathology/treatments.

If I have to measure my shoes width with the spacer, I should wear wider than an extra wide, 4E. No New Balance or Hoka comes with wider than 4E. Especially my tennis shoes. No tennis shoes in the world comes with wider than 4E. What do I do 😢
@correcttoesАй бұрын
To start we don't recommend New Balance or Hoka at all. They don't have the correct shape to accommodate Correct Toes so we don't suggest using them at all, especially with Correct Toes. Diving further into our practice and the reason for Correct Toes we aim to provide a natural, non-invasive approach to foot health. This means natural shape as well, traditional shoes do not provide this. You can view our online sites to find brands and more on what shoes we consider appropriate, such as Altra, Lems, Bearfoot, Vivobarefoot.

It's hard to say one thing fixes all people, we stand behind the fact that people are unique so I cannot answer medical-grade questions. We wish we could provide you more but please visit with a natural podiatrist to discuss further treatment.

I appreciate the video. I had been wearing minimalist “barefoot” shoes for 2 years when I stumbled upon Correct Toes. And videos about reversing bunions. I do not have a first toe bunions, but I do have fifth toe bunions that I would like to correct. I have been wearing correct toes for about 4 months now, but I do not (and have not for a while) think they splay my toes quite wide enough, even with additional foam in the fifth toe spacer. I’m really not seeing much progress on actually reversing the bunion, but my toes are certainly more flexible than they were. In other words I do see benefits, just not the particular benefit I was hoping for. Are there any other options to splay my toes a bit wider? I have found socks that do, but they are meant for rest and not day wear. Any thoughts would be appreciated if you have the time. Thank you.
