Slater Stone Did your bunion actually go away?
@slaterstone87528 жыл бұрын
treehuggermc1: I can't say that it "went away" because if I go back to my old shoes (not Correct Toes approved) even for just a few hours, my big toe will naturally gravitate to its' old position, the shoe rubs in the wrong place and I end up with a red painful spot (the bunion). What has worked for me is wearing Correct Toes inside a minimalist shoe with toe socks (more comfortable when wearing the Correct Toes because my feet sweat a lot) and performing the bunion exercises. If I do these things my bunion is not red and irritated, my foot has a much more natural look (big toe is straighter and more aligned with my foot and my toes are spread apart properly) and, most importantly, I don't have the excruciating nerve pain on the top of my big toe. In addition I am not having the low back, hip and knee pain that I had prior to starting this therapy when I was wearing orthotics and motion control shoes. Hope this helps.

Being a climbing and needing to fit it to pretty small/tight shoes I've been dealing with pain from a bunion in my left big toe pretty much since I started climbing. I got shoes that were a bit bigger to make room but am going to give these exercises a try. Any other climbers dealing with similar pain report back here in 6 months or so and I'll let you know how I'm doing. Edit: I've tried these exercises regularly for a while but i think what i realized is there is no way to "fix" a bunion without surgery- as a bunion is a dislocation of the joints or permanent damage in my case. It could be arthritic which is what i believe mine is (arthritis runs in my family) but what does work well for me is I have been using silicone gel inserts for in between your toes. So my recommendations as a climber suffering from bunions , as i spent the past year+ trying to remedy mine, Get some gel inserts and/or toe spacers that are comfy, I wear a big toe spacer when i climb. Don't leave climbing shoes on when you aren't climbing. I try to keep mine on only when im climbing. Get barefoot wide shoes and only wear these, no more tight running shoes. Get socks with toes so your socks dont squeeze your foot . Work on stretching the foot and spreading your toes. Hopefully this will help prevent ever needing surgery in the future and make my bunion tolerable.

@@zenithchan1646 these movements/exercises with combinations of some toe spacers/spreaders can definitely help. For me the “pulling” exercise they show with a towel I had trouble doing due to pain so I’ve shyed away from it as it seems to hit exactly where my toe is messed up. But the massage and the rubber band exercise that you wrap around the toe was game changer for me, I think this one really helped with some of the pain. I still tend to avoid hard slab climbing but I’ve been climbing relatively pain free in all my other climbing. I also sometimes climb with a spacer in between my big toe and middle toe which I feel like helps.

@mary_puffin Жыл бұрын
You don't need to wear tight shoes for this to be a problem. The modern shoe design is going to push your big toe in. Even shoes that feel loose have this design - they don't affect you only because you're habituated from a lifetime of wearing the . Very few modern shoes are shaped like natural feet. You specifically have to look for minimalist shoes. After wearing only minimalist shoes for 3 years, I can't fit in normal shoes anymore. I once tried shoes that felt like they fit and my big toe really hurt after 1 hour only.

Heel drop exercise held slow min or longer .. on both sides/one side. Slowly lean into it but outside of pain - sore or very sore. Alternate food. For a while each session build strength by raising heel slowly and lowering it all the way down- slowly. (Is that concentric exercise? Or excentric? lol) You may also bend your knees instead of having a straight and do the same stuff but with a bent knee. This targets the soleus which is the muscle underneath the gastrocnemius -> both on the back of your lower leg. For more detail see Wikipedia anatomy articles. After get used to it you can use your arms but only one at a time. I want you to keep holding onto something as you do it. I would hold onto a tree or a garbage can and use the curb for the step a lot of the time. It is very important that you keep your upper body straight and erect in relation to gravity. It should be relaxed but aware and straight as in how you would stand. That will stretch muscles in the front to go with what you were stretching in the back and by the front I mean your rectus abdominis. More on request. Bio energy and AIM.

Hmmm... when talking about strengthening the adductor, she didn't mention the arch. For me, plantar fasciitis has been the largest contributor to big-toe misalignment and strengthening the muscles from arch right thru to the hip essential.

Only problem is that everything along the plantar fascia is on one plane and the hallux valgus is in a completely different one
@babuddha3 жыл бұрын
@@timyatcak3292 Morning, Tim. Don't know about planes. Like poorly designed footware, compromised arches cause pronation, which also leads the big toe to become misaligned and fail to carry its proportionate share of body weight. Rewatching the video, what the therapist did by manually straightening her big toe with her hands, I propose accomplishing with the musculature of the foot and leg itself (perhaps assisted manually at first -- the toes do become relatively disfunctional individually from wearing shoes). Perhaps this gets back to your planes reference... the adductor hallucis would prolly be considered antagnostic to the abductor hallucis which participates in the "extension" the big toe and the arch.

Lol....this doesn't work! Pulling the big toes away from the other toes? You could do that many hours a day and it wouldn't help....much less for only a few minutes a day. I've also tried Correct Toes and they don't help bunions either. They probably help stabilize the foot for walking/running, and might even help pain, but they don't do a thing to permanently move the big toe outward. To suggest otherwise is not being honest. Correct Toes are a medical-grade device, please always speak with a professional when considering their use so we may find the proper plan for you. The process for physical changes can take anywhere between 2-3 years, much like braces. The stretches aid in what the Correct Toes are aiming to do, properly splay the toes and realign the structures of your feet. We stretch our calves, hamstrings, etc. to loosen up, the process here is very similar.

Bunions are most commonly caused by tight muscles. The "deformed" or displaced angle you see is due to overpowering muscles, correcttoes.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Paleopathological-study-of-hallux-valgus.pdf. Occasionally people will also indicate "bone growth" or "calcium deposit" these are often what surgical procedures can aid in, however, It is always best to speak with a professional.

Hi Michele, I'm very happy to go over the pricing of Correct Toes, but perhaps one of our customers put it best: "I initially thought the price was high, too. But what I came to realize was that the inventor has invested a lot of his resources into bringing these to market. He also has made and posted many free videos and articles on his website to educate the public that how podiatry has been practiced is largely backward. He is a pioneer in this field and this is a passion for him. I am happy to buy his product knowing that I'm supporting his calling, even though at first superficial glance it seems overpriced. I would encourage anyone to investigate what all is involved in bringing a product like this to market and even try it yourself... it may give you a new-found respect for apparently overpriced, pioneering products that actually help folks become functional again. His product fills a need in the marketplace that no other product fills. Perhaps, over time, as the demand for these increases, the price will come down. Until then I'm considering my purchase of his product an investment in my health and my voluntary contribution to his "ministry". " If you'd like to know more about why Correct Toes are priced the way they are, feel free to email us at info@correcttoes.com. Thanks for checking out the video!
@shamimabanu37794 жыл бұрын
My 2cents: The price involves a lot more than the amount of silicon used in the product; looking at the videos, a high quality mould has been designed to cradle each toe properly. In some advanced cases, bunions(hallux abducto valgus) can be complex, and do require surgery, as you mentioned. However, if and when caught early enough, bunion reversal is possible through the exercises outlined in the video along with natural or foot shaped shoes, and the constant repetition of realigning the toes using Correct Toes toe spacers. There is a mix of information we have where you can see before and after photos along with a physical therapy treatment plan that focuses solely on the realignment of the toes and helping reverse bunions. You can read "Treatment of Progressive First Metatarsophalangeal Hallux Valgus Deformity: A Biomechanically Based Muscle-Strengthening Approach" (Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy, 2016) and we have a 3 part blog series on how bunions are an advanced dislocation and not a bone growth that needs to be surgically removed. These bunion videos from Northwest Foot & Ankle really make sense to me! Finally! I thought my bunions came from my grandmother and there was nothing I could do but to get surgery someday.... I'me gonna order Correctoes but I need your advice on shoes brands to browse that ship to Europe! I live in Portugal. Plus... minimal shoes in my office are a big No. So Im looking for everyday shoes that respect my feet and some gym shoes as well.. Thank you in advance!

You have a foot where the hallux is still here while gone on the other. I'm the same. My right foot corrected quite fast (few month at most), but i'm working on my left foot since 2 years now and things are hawfully slow. When I go to osteopaths, they often see some issues with cuboïd bone. I had a severe ankle flip on this foot when I was young too. I guess I'm going to make some video footage for Dr Ray, he might have some idea, because I my opinion is that something else is in the way to recovery, influenceing from distance. Something might be wrong somewhere else in my foot/ankle, that's a complexe structure anyway. Would be great if DR Ray could try to figure out some more complicated problems

Hey did your bunion on your right foot realy reversed??? I have bunions on my left and right feet. They are realy mild scenerio but they started to hurt a few days ago end I am preaty woried Pleas reaplay
@AtlantisArch2 жыл бұрын
@@nobady4830 yup, at least one did. I guess you might get all the info from channel "Northwest Foot & Ankle" interresting, especially about Dr. Ray McClanahan explaining he was a good foot churgeon and when he had to correct his very feets he just couldn't and re-learned every thing. I guess that's in one of his oldest vid, maybe ?v=XIS_evkfI3A . Don't forget : 1/ first right shoes, then socks, then exercices, then maybe some devices to speed it up and 2/ it took years for change the natural shape of your foot, it might take some time to correct it BUT if you don't stop the trend root (the shoes), nothing will help. There are now PLENTY of accurate shoes now for (very) CHEAP on Ali or else btw. My right bunion doesn't disturb me at all now but still didn't fully reverse as did my left, even I don't know why, after 7 or 8 years leaving stupid occidental foot flagelation fashion. edit : forgot to mention that I was (recetly on stop because of an accident) an ultratrail runner and I never injured myself doing such long distances after going plant based diet + using appropriate footwear. Before that I had tons of week/months lasting injuries barely running marathons

@Northwest Foot & Ankle Just *watching* this makes my bunion hurt! Anything that pulls on the big toe causes deep aches in the joint, which lasts for several hours. For instance, I cannot wear any sandals with a toe loop or straps that criss-cross over that big toe. I've started using Correct Toes a few days ago and that doesn't seem to bother it, as it's a gentle stretch at this time. I'll add the material into the slot after three months as your site suggests, but in the meantime was hoping to try this bunion reversal exercise. Not sure if I can, due to pain. 😬
@correcttoes Жыл бұрын
That's okay! Everyone is at a different degree . Start with the Correct Toes and even using heating creams or pads in the next few weeks. Then slowly try and mobilize that joint. If it's still near impossible in the coming months, we can regroup and apply some other methods.

A fundamental improvement to the most important stretch (0:33 (also affects 1:25)): In order to stretch the adductor hallucis effectively you cannot just bend the big toe outward, you need, with the target foot inverted and resting on the thigh of the opposite leg, to simultaneously hold on to the the other side of the transverse head (by third-fourth-fifth metatarsophalangeal joint)(using your other hand, preferably wearing a dishwashing glove so that you get a good grip). If you don't then the muscle will largely just be pulled along. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adductor_hallucis_muscle

When you typed that did you really think anyone would understand what you were trying to say? Honestly...
@Dwbolan776 жыл бұрын
I think what he is saying is that you would take your effected foot your wanting to stretch.. when you are sitting, place your foot on your other thigh so your foot is now at the ankle resting on the thigh of your other leg.. Like you would if your are crossing your leg. this will allow your foot to rotate inward some. Then, using your hand furthest away from the foot.. to grab the 4 other toes. at where they connect to the foot and hold them there so they dont slide to much towards the big toe. Now, taking your free hand and using it to pull the big toe.. (which is called the 1st metatarsal bone) away from the foot to allow it to stretch like you see in the video above and holding it there so it can stretch for 30 sec to 1 min.... then release.. then do it again... do this a few mins at least... like 5 mins of total stretch time. You can do this multiple times a day.

Can you do one for the fifth toe please. I have pretty severe brunettes on both feet and my physician is sending me to see a surgeon. It's caused my feet to be super wide and the pinky on a great angle inward. Can this be fixed without surgery? Will that fifth metatarsal ever move back closer to the fourth or will my feet forever (without surgery) be this wide?

I’ve had bunions since the 5th grade. They are HUGE! Doctors make fun of me. I broke my ankle and the orthopedic doctor said “MY GOD THOSE ARE THE UGLIEST FEET IVE EVER SEEN! NOT ONLY ARE THEY HUGE... (size 9) BUT IVE NEVER SEEN BUNIONS THAT BIG ON A 25 yr old! You put 80 yr olds to shame! GROSS!” Then he called in staff to look at my feet and took pics to post. I was mortified. Every time he called me in the waiting room thereafter, he referred to me as Miss ugly feet. 😞 It’s VERY genetic in my family. My mom couldn’t afford shoes at the rate my feet grew. I always hated my feet cuz they were big. They aren’t wide or fat. And I was tall and thin. (5’9”) I finally grew into them. But now I have bunions and the surgery to fix them is out of the question. Please tell me these exercises can help them. They hurt so bad, but I can deal w that. It’s the embarrassment. I have a HUGE arch. Stilettos actually feel good on my arch and podiatrists have to make extra high insoles for regular shoes. I wouldn’t were a stiletto that smashed my toes making it worse, but I wear strappy ones so my toes aren’t smashed. I want to ask a doc, but the last one asked how I even got laid w feet like mine.😞 ( I wear knee socks) & men don’t really give AF about a bunion in bed. Still... I do. I wanna show off my pedicure in cute flip flops. I wanna sleep w out socks. I wanna walk barefoot on the beach. Please say this exercise will help the way it looks!

These things help just a little. The problem is hereditary and has to do not only with flat feet but also with hips and spine problems. Shoes are not the only reason. I never wore uncomfortable shoes of high heels and yet I have it, just as my parents did. Some girls wear all shoes they want and nothing happens cause they have big strong feet.If you don't really take care of it in early age with all possible means, not much can be done later
@chilly44533 ай бұрын
I agree, apart from your last sentence. The human body is flexible and very adaptive. I had strong back pain and stiffness in my thoracic spine from my youth on. Now I am 30 and was able get rid off this mostly, process still ongoing. I had Rolfing sessions (look it up if you want, there are other methods that go a similar way). I would agree, shoes can be the main reason for many people regarding this issue. But the body is too complex, to reduce it to the shoes for everybody.

@@chilly4453 Yes I'm sure some things can be done... As I was 30 I also felt better, d8d stretching etc. But now I'm 55 :) And have scoliosis since early youth, not much can be done to change it, not now. But streghtening the muscles can never be wrong
@egyptianhibiscus92033 ай бұрын
@@chilly4453 Thank you, I've heard of Rolfing but not in detail. Will check. I don't have so much pain but the spine is not very stable. I used to dance when I was younger but it is what it is, scoliosis sucks and feet suffer because of that...

My doctor said there's no solution but surgery. I went to podiatrist about 15 yrs ago, and he also said only surgery. Now i have gout in my big toe. OMG i cringed in pain when she started pulling on her toe. I gotta do something tho bc it hurts. Surgery is nuts: they say you can walk (even with crutches) for weeks. Forget the fact my deductible is like $7500, i can't miss more than a few days of work. I'd be destitute, even if i could afford the insurance deductible oh yeah i can't afford it anyway bc i'd definitely lose my job, and bo job = no medical insurance. Why are our lives like this? My ex wife and I both grew up pretty comfy. Both of us are smarter than either of our parents, we work as much or more, we both went to college, she has a master's. I started saving money at 19. Now at 40 i know i have work until i die. Oh yeah that's right: healthcare costs and student loans

My brother had hallux too and he got some bandages from doctor to fix it. He wore them at night, but it didn't worked and it also caused him pain, so after a long time he gave up on them and he bought himself shoes with fingers. And he says, that it helped, so it may be a way too. :)
