what if someone doesnt have scanner
@rebeccaartistryfashiondesign
@rebeccaartistryfashiondesign 26 күн бұрын
@@artnation2885 Hi there! If you don't have a scanner, the best alternative is to find a business in your area that lets you scan your images on their machines. In my area I can go to an office supply store such as FedEx Kinkos. They have large color copiers that you can scan on. They will charge you a fee per scan, and you will need to bring a USB to plug into the machine to save your scanned image. You would have to find places like this in your area. - Aside from that, another alternative would be to try to take a good quality photo of the artwork on your phone or on a camera if you have one. But it won't be quite the same high quality as a scan. If this is for personal use, you can try this and see how it turns out. - And one more thing you can try is a scanning app. I know of one called Scanner Pro which is for use with an iPhone or iPad. If you don't use iPhone or iPad you can check to see what other scanning apps are available. I've known of people using this but I haven't used it myself so it's something you'd have to try out. - But if this is for a paid project or if you're selling the artwork, the best option really is the first one- look for a place that gives you access to a scanner.

hi is there any tutorial for full drop repeats?
@rebeccaartistryfashiondesign
@rebeccaartistryfashiondesign 3 ай бұрын
If you want to make a full drop repeat like the simple one that's shown in the comparison at the beginning of the video, I don't have a specific video on that- but it's really simple. You'll actually follow the same steps as this video EXCEPT that you'll skip the steps where you put the motifs on the 4 corners. Don't put anything on the corners. Follow all the other instructions and you'll have a full drop repeat. (Some people might opt to do it the opposite way and put the motif on all 4 corners and NOT put anything in the center. This is also correct- but I think I'd have to show you how to align the corners motifs correctly in a video or it would take a longer explanation). - And if you want to know how to make a more complicated full drop seamless repeat with lots of elements in it, I do have this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2rCaJ-oq7GnrcUsi=Gz-e_XHeppaVEw3G Click the link to watch. Hi there! I made this video a little less than 3 years ago. This is still how we would do it. So no, it hasn't really changed even since 2007! The only thing I would say is, in this video I opted to use the longer way (top menu) to do a couple of things such as join and average the middle points. But you might want to use shortcuts instead. I made a video on the top shortcuts I recommend. You may have learned these back then too, but if you want to check it out here's the video link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5zQk6OsYtiemMksi=LWhLZqyI2yxA5HUU

The size of your pasteboard has nothing to do with how big your file is. Or at least not in any meaningful way. Vector art has the same amount of data no matter how large or small the shape is. To test this I opened a 947 KB file. I then scaled the artboard up by a factor of ten (from 4x1.5 to 40x15) I then scaled the art up to fit. After I saved it the resulting file was actually about 75 KB SMALLER. What actually will increase the file size is if you are using a lot of raster effects. The size of those will affect the file size. More pixels, more data. But if you aren't using any raster effects, then the size of your artboard is moot.

@rebeccaartistryfashiondesign
@rebeccaartistryfashiondesign 5 ай бұрын
Hi there! By any chance are the disappearing objects made up of strokes? If they are, the functions in the Pathfinder window (such as the crop function) won't work properly. It will make strokes disappear. If this is the case, you would have to expand your artwork to make it into fills and not strokes. You would do this with Object/ Expand, and then crop it.

@@rebeccaartistryfashiondesign Thanks for your reply. No idea, the images I'm using are .png that I downloaded to try the repeat pattern.
@rebeccaartistryfashiondesign
@rebeccaartistryfashiondesign 5 ай бұрын
Ok I see. This is also the case with png images. The Pathfinder options such as crop will not work with png images. Pathfinder will only work with vector shapes that are fills (drawn objects). - So with png images, you can follow the same instructions in the video, but when you get to the part where I do Pathfinder/ Crop, you will INSTEAD right click, and select "Make clipping mask". This will give you the crop effect. - After this, go into the layers panel, duplicate the clear box, and keep one clear box at the top of the sublayers where it is, and drag the other one down to the bottom so it's behind all your artwork. Then you can drag the whole thing into the swatches panel to create a repeat swatch from this. - However, I would encourage you to start working with vector artwork going forward instead of flat images like png's because that's really what Illustrator is meant for. - Hope that helps! Let me know how it goes or if you have any more questions.

Hi! I cant seem to get rid of the stippling effect even after switching to RGB mode. I tried increasing the number of colours as suggested in the video, but. it still didnt help. Is there any other way i can resolve this issue?
@rebeccaartistryfashiondesign
@rebeccaartistryfashiondesign 5 ай бұрын
Hi there! I'm sorry- I think I should clarify a bit. When I said switching to RGB mode would smooth it out, I meant it will smooth it out somewhat as compared to what you'll get initially in Index mode. When we first do index mode, there is a very harsh grainy texture we see that sometimes even causes a transparency to occur. This super harsh effect should go away when you switch to RGB mode, making the stippling not too noticeable in actual real life printing. - But it's not going to smooth it out as much as the initial image you started with that had all those tons of colors. So you will definitely see some stippling when you're zoomed in. Every print is different and will behave differently when the colors are reduced a lot. - The question is how noticeable is it on your print and how much texture is acceptable to you? Check your print at 100% on the screen. Does it look too grainy then? -I am asking because if you're zoomed in too much you may still be seeing a really harsh texture but it's not necessarily going to turn out that way. - When you look at the image at 100% scale, it looks more like how it will really turn out in real life. - Or an even better way to test it is by printing out a page of the print at 100% scale. If the printout is not too grainy then it should be ok. - If it is in fact too stippled, then increasing colors should help but you may have to go up pretty high in number depending on what your image looks like. - You can also test out different diffusion percentage amounts in that same box where you increase the colors- although I usually tend to leave this at the default 75%. -OR if it's still not good enough, then after you color index, you will have to manually go in with your paintbrush and paint over the areas that have too much stippling in order to fix them. ***But you should use one of the colors in your new reduced color print ( has to be the EXACT color, and using 100% opacity) so as to not increase the number of colors again. - Like I said, every print is different and will get different results. Sometimes the color indexing turns out really well, and sometimes it will take some more work on your part. Sorry- it is not an exact science unfortunately and Photoshop does not always do a perfect job. -Let me know how it works out for you. I hope that helps. Sorry if there was any confusion.
