How to Vectorize Watercolors in Adobe Illustrator / PT 2 Raster to Vector Watercolor in Illustrator

In this video series, you’ll be learning how to vectorize watercolors in Adobe Illustrator! In this Part 2 video, we’re going to vectorize the watercolor floral image that we scanned and cleaned up in Part 1! This is a lesson on how to make a raster image into vector artwork. It’s important to know how to do this because it allows you to scale your image up or down without losing the quality of it.
This method will work not only on watercolors, but also on any other type of artwork that you scanned in, fabric that you scanned in, or images from online or from your computer.
You’ll learn the standard process that professionals use to vectorize watercolors and other artwork in Adobe Illustrator, the main settings that you might want to adjust, and how to troubleshoot one of the issues that might come up when you vectorize. You’ll also learn how to handle vectorization of multiple elements as well.
And if you haven’t watched the previous video: Part 1, make sure you watch it, and that you watch it all the way through first! In Part 1, I show you all the prep work that you need to do in order to vectorize your watercolor artwork. How to scan, clean, and save your image properly for vectorization. Knowing how to scan and clean your artwork properly is the foundation for successfully converting a raster image to vector and getting a great result later. Trust me- you won’t regret it!

So cool, you did a great job. When you were deleting the white background you could have used "select same fill color" if the image itself did not use white on it. It's under the SELECT menu: SELECT > SAME > FILL COLOR. If. you do this a lot you can add a keyboard command to it

Thanks so much! I appreciate that. Yes- you’re absolutely right. I could have used SELECT/SAME/ FILL COLOR when I was deleting the white parts. Not sure why I didn’t use it that instance. I actually do use that function a lot on other things. And funny that you should mention adding a keyboard command to it because I just recently did a KZbin short on creating your own keyboard shortcuts and I used exactly that example!: kzbin.infofHUifwZxXUs I guess we’re thinking alike!
