Would you recommend someone building and flying this if they're just getting into wings? I'm coming from FPV drones so most of the parts I'm familiar with, just not the "wing" version of the FC and INAV? Thanks!

I’m flying HDZero, have a dji v2 and 03 but haven’t used it yet, so just to be clear break ground connection with switch and good to go. I’ve been using an external cellphone battery. A switch is the way to go. I have a dolphin in the box. Two t motor pro 90s low kv ones. Don’t have a 3D printer so I guess find someone on eBay and send all the info to print everything or ? Great flights great information.

Is there limits on how high in Altitude you can go with this model ?
@JeffDoesThisКүн бұрын
Legal altitude limits, yes! Every country is different and has their own laws. But I think you could get to 30,000 feet up and still have video signal as long as you stayed close to your launch location. Video signal would be very week and it would take a whole battery pack to do it. Your limit is battery life and video signal distance which is about 6 miles (31,680 feet) for DJI 03 Air Unit.

how much real world performance optimization do you think you could make by minmaxxing the profile of all the 3dprinted stuff and stuff that is boking out (under the motor mounts, removing skids different o3 setup, carbon less angled horizontal stabs) like rotor flex style
@JeffDoesThis2 күн бұрын
I don't know? I really enjoy printing all these parts and making stuff for these planes. The top speed battle was fun but it got old quick. I need my planes to be durable and can take abuse plus I street land my planes all the time. I fly in town, parking lots and all kinds of crazy places. I think all the aero stuff would only be worth 10-15 mph extra.

All twins fly amazing lol once you go twin engine it spoils you. BUT you sacrifice either efficiency or the weight/glide ratio becomes a problem for landing in smaller areas. That being said twins are amazing and I’ll never enjoy a single engine like a good ole twin.

Why a 6s motor powered by 4s and not 6s?
@JeffDoesThis4 күн бұрын
This motor is not a 6s only motor as you can see in the video. It works great on 4s too. Most of my batteries i have are 4s1p li-ion.
@PopGheorghe4 күн бұрын
@@JeffDoesThis I watched your clip and was thinking of trying something similar. Based on the numbers, that motor pulls around 980g of thrust on 6S-50%, but on 4S it would likely pull closer to 500g. So, if you’re using two motors on 4S, you’d be getting around 1000g of thrust-similar to what you get with just one motor on 6S! Sorry if my math was confusing, but that was the thought process I had while thinking of applying it to my dolphin.

@calvinhenshaw21478 күн бұрын
did you think about rotating the back motor ????? that would help with the rotation and help thrust in forward flight. ??????
@rickward57964 күн бұрын
That would require facing the rotor disk downward in hover and rotate to rearward for forward flight. It also means it has to raise up a good bit to not hit the ground. I am looking at how to do that very thing on an all printed plane.

Jeff, great video dude. Is it possible that the yaw is being caused by an esc calibration mismatch? I’m thinking that the yaw looks quite potent and the right hand motor is possibly at a higher rpm than the left ( differential thrust effect ). Just a thought but maybe worth checking out…..Rotorflex👍

You said near the end PLA isn't UV stable that just means the UV will break down the plastic and it will discolor and become brittle over time not that it'll melt. PLA isn't heat resistant though so if its hot out the plastic may soften and deform but that has little to do with UV light

folding propeller like on dji drones ? for the rear motor.

How would you stop the props from sliding on their bushings to the wind or other forces? How do you stop the lateral shakes when they get spun out again?
@JeffDoesThis8 күн бұрын
You stop the propeller from freewheeling by enabling the ESC Brake function. Depending on the brand/model of the esc and motor, the brake force or holding force that keeps the propeller from spinning can be weak or strong. I'm my case, i believe it was very weak and not effective.
@patricehonvault26127 күн бұрын
@@Finnv893 In the relative wind linked to the advancement of the model, the propellers will feather, in the direction of the wind, if the rear engine is stopped. It is necessary to turn the engine so that the propellers deploy. Similarly when turning, the propellers will shift in the direction of the turn but they will not start rotating.

@amp864009 күн бұрын
@@JeffDoesThis @JeffDoesThis @JeffDoesThis no but the aerodynamics might just be strange. Not to mention the difficulties most people have had with getting the T1 VTOL flying well. Tuning INAV for VTOL doesn't seem so strait forward as I think we'd expect. And it may very well come down to the FC. I think the simplest way to see if it's the aero is trying folding props. Maybe reach out to GizFPV or Painless 360? They've both done pretty extensive INAV VTOL builds. Or RC Testflight at THINK FLIGHT.
