Tell you what mate.....really enjoyed that video....just getting back in to air gun hunting,got meself a AA s510 tdr regulated......but was thinking of getting a second gun,as you do lol.....would go for a hw...not sure which model yet....take it hw80 is the springer and hw90 is gas ram....never owned a gas ram,always wanted a theoben....showing me age now(55)lol....but cracking video,thanks

The HW90 is my 1st gas ram so couldn't comment on how this works in cheaper or alternative brands? It's a hell of a rifle that's for sure and is stamped with Theoben on the breech as an early model. The AA TDR is a looker and not a bad way to start again

That 80 don't like the Pest control as tumbling as not clean holes had it with .20 rapid 12 MK2 with Crosman Premiers etc used to swirl down range but Target trophy was spot on.

There is one thing I do I have done since the mid 90s that no one has mentioned. I seat each and every pellet using a tool that was sold by Beeman. The tool was just a short steel rod with a ball bearing head to press the skirt of the pellet flush with the chamber opening, squaring it off even.

I opened a new tin with .22 5.52mm JSB Exacts and i felt already that they fit different in the barrel. To loose. Result about the same group as you shot Keith. Had no pellets left from the old batch and ordered a tin with 5.53mm to try and nice tight group again. The older HW35 like a tight fit. Cheers buddy!

Gotta watch for that fps drop when you chain fire. I noticed it on all my springers now that I can chrony them.
@keith6930
@keith6930 11 күн бұрын
That's a good point about heat build up on a springer. I find it easier to get into rhythm shooting rather than taking time, breathing and thinking about each shot. This can have an effect on the potential FPS of the pellet and ultimately the point of impact? Might have to do a side by side comparison over the chrony

Don't get me wrong the next grouping was nowhere as good or tight. It's all about being consistent and that's the hard part of shooting a springer. JSB are premium pellets but quite soft so can be damaged daily causing fliers and wayward shots unfortunately

The difficulty I found with the HW97 was establishing a suitable machined horizontal surface (i.e. a surface at right angles to the vertical axis of the gun) to enable the placing of a spirit level. Two methods I have thought of, although only the second one is safe: 1) cock the gun and leave it cocked to expose the parallel horizontal surfaces either side of the breach chamber, unsafe as it means messing around with a cocked gun. 2) obtain a small engineer's pin vice, clamping it (upside down) across the two machined vertical faces just before the breach chamber. Once clamped in position, the upturned face of the pin vice should provide a suitable horizontal surface for placing a spirit level (“gun level”). Once the gun level is in place, the arrangement can stay there during setting up to ensure verticality of the gun axis whilst the scope is lightly bolted down. The scope reticule should then be aligned against a known vertical, such as a wall. For the avoidance of cant, a miniature horizontal spirit level can be added to the top of the scope. Before final torquing up, the gun and scope levels should both be horizontal and the scope reticule vertical.

I made the mistake of zeroing outdoors on a day when the wind was all over the place. I should have left it alone and held off instead. Pellet wise, I was just testing the Bisley range and probably not best suited compared to others. This certainly shows with the different weights or head shape.

Neither my 97 Sporter nor my HW100 bullpup (both .177) like Hades, the 100 is especially bad with them. Even at 40m it looks like I used a shotgun but I can put Bisley Magnum or Bisley Long Range Gold through the same hole all day long. Air guns are funny that way, even though Weihrauch make the least pellet fussy barrels going they still have their little foibles.
