Technically the AG Plus One Plus One Schmedium from JC Steel Targets is excluded from discounts, but it's still worth it at retail price in my opinion. I've definitely taken advantage of the discounts for AccuTac bipods and Warne rings/mounts. You are not gaining much or losing much by purchasing something like an Arkan or Discovery. For the money they are good. I feel the reason you pay more for Brands like Leupold and Burris is because of the name. The advantages from purchasing from an established brand is aftermarket and customer service along with a better warranty. But features wise Arkan and Discovery are identical to Leupold mk4 hd and Burris XTR pro. In my opinion you really don't start to notice a difference until you get into Night Force ATACR, entry level Steiner T6XI, Zeiss LRP 3, and Leupold mk5hd. It's when you get into said tier is when you start to notice significant differences and improvements. In my opinion the Burris XTR pro should be at a lower price point similar to a Leupold mk4hd. Perhaps less. I think the Leupold mk4hd is a better purchase.

Hi Eggo! I could not agree more with you on the Burris. I bought one, reviewed it, but just didn't get any "wow" factor out of it for the money and thought my Discovery was much easier to manage. May build a race gun later but for now, I’m running with a rifle I already own and load for to hone practical skills, accepting that there are obvious limitations to that competitively. It’s a Howa HCR in 6.5 CM with a Vortex Venom 5-25 and a Surefire RC2. It shoots pretty consistent .5 MOA if I do my job on factory Hornady 140 ELDM. My handloads are usually good for .3 or so. Should be ok to start in production

Hey 4GunGuy! First off just wanted to say I love your reviews! I know this is an older video but I am trying to decide right now between this 4.5-30 toric and the newer 4-25 toric. Curious if you have any experience with the 4-25? I know it has a lot more elevation adjustment (47mils I believe) but trying to figure out it one has advantages over the other. The scope will be used between my rimfire and centerfire PRS rifles. On a side note I have read all the comments on the Gen 3 here and I did consider buying one but I can buy a Tractor for half the money of the Gen 3 here in Canada, so I’m not sure I would be gaining that much more for twice the money. Thanks in advance for any insight!
@The4GunGuy
@The4GunGuy 13 күн бұрын
Hi dppss! Thanks for the kind words and glad you're getting something out of my content! I would definitely go with the 4.5-30x56mm over the 4-25x50mm due to the objective size. I know they both have 34mm tubes, Exit pupil = Objective diam/magnification means that the 56mm would have 56mm/22 = 2.55mm exit pupil, and the 50mm would have 50mm/22 = 2.27mm exit pupil. This doesn't seem like a big difference, and in all the forums you'll see people talking about hunting scenario's at dawn/dusk and that the 56mm gives you a few more minutes of light due to the larger objective. I take that analysis to PRS and think about a match I just shot, where the 5 head targets were near and around a truck that was set back in a very dark tree grove. I could barely make them out with my Gen 3 at 56mm and actually had to zoom out to about 14x to acquire them. With a 50mm objective, that may have been more of a challenge. Finally, you'll have an easier time reselling the 56mm than you will the 50mm. So I would go on to snipershide.com and look up the resale of both those scopes and you may see that the 56mm kept more value...Just a thought. As far as the elevation goes, just slap a 40mm rail on your 22LR and you shouldn't have any issues with the 56mm. Agree on the price difference against the Gen 3, so save some money there. I just decided to standardize on the Gen 3's since I got some good deals on them, but I loved the TRACT when I had it. Hope this helps and good luck in your PRS shooting this coming year!

Dear 4GunGuy, I’ve been enjoying your videos so much, and I really appreciate all the content you’ve shared. I have a few questions I’d like to ask you: I’m currently using Alpha brass and have shot 3-4 times with it in matches and practice sessions, and I’m seeing great muzzle velocity. However, my question is: how often should I clean the brass? In the past, when I used Hornady brass, I never cleaned it, even after 6-7 uses, and I didn’t notice much change in muzzle velocity. (To be honest, I wasn’t knowledgeable about reloading back then, so I didn’t use an expander mandrel, and my ES was over 40.) Now, since I’m reloading in a very tight space, it’s hard for me to use dry media or wet cleaning equipment. I’ve seen other videos (not necessarily from precision shooters, but from handgun reloaders) suggesting the use of Lemi Shine and water for cleaning. This is something I could manage in my current space. Do you think this method would yield better results? I also have 500 Peterson brass cases that I purchased. The reason I bought them is because I’m planning to attend a 5-day precision shooting training at Rifles Only in April, and I’d like to bring my handloaded ammo instead of factory ammo for better performance. My question is: if I were to prepare all 500 rounds, you recommend chamfering, deburring, and using an expander mandrel-but do I also need to do full-length sizing? I’m planning to compare the results between once-fired brass and brand-new brass that has gone through the chamfer, deburr, and expand mandrel processes before preparing all 500 rounds. However, I feel like full-length sizing might still be necessary. What’s your opinion on this?
@The4GunGuy
@The4GunGuy 13 күн бұрын
Hi 와웅와웅-w1j! You must resize the brass, but you can decide whether to just do neck sizing or full-length sizing. I recommend full-length sizing and bumping the shoulder back at between 0.001" and 0.003" to ensure a proper chamber fit and leave room for random debris that may get on the shoulder before chambering the round. You don't have to use an expander mandrel, but may just get a mandrel of the same size as your sized neck to ensure concentricity of the neck. I anneal every firing. Hope this helps!

Enjoy your suppressor dang it. My barrel does not like my Omega 300 on my 6GT. I've tried everything to get it to work and she just does not like it on there. Because I shoot suppressed on every other gun that I own and tightens up my groups. My quarter minute gun becomes a Sears and Roebucks gun with my suppressor on it.
@The4GunGuy
@The4GunGuy 16 күн бұрын
Oh man, that sucks, especially on a GT! I wonder if you could treat the suppressor like a tuner and adjust your load instead of the other way around (you know, like when you adjust the tuner). Dear 4gunguy, Hello, I live in Houston and discovered your KZbin channel a few months ago. I’ve been applying your tips to my hobby, precision shooting. For example, you recommended using an expander mandrel, so I got one, and it significantly improved my muzzle velocity. I’m really thankful for that advice. After watching your videos a few times, it seems like you participate in TX Precision Matches. I’m preparing to join the Centerfire Open PRS on March 8th next year. I’ve only participated in F-Class type matches (even though my rifle and gear are all for PRS) and benchrest shooting. I’ve been practicing standing, kneeling, and sitting positions at the 500-600 yard range at the American Shooting Center, where they have wooden supports. Do I need a tripod for the match? My rifle is an Aero Solus 6.5CM, but I swapped the barrel for a 26-inch Proof Research barrel. I’m using a Vortex Razor Gen III in MOA, an Area 419 Hellfire Match muzzle brake, Accu-Tac WB-5 and an Armageddon Gear Shmedium bag. Do you think I need any additional equipment? For now, I’m planning to stick with this setup for the match, but as this will be my first competition, I’m wondering if there’s anything else I should prepare.
@The4GunGuy
@The4GunGuy 19 күн бұрын
Hi @와웅와웅-w1j! Thanks for the kind words! First, watch as many of my practice videos as you can, we'll be shooting off of many of those props in that match. Your setup looks good, although, as I stated in a recent video, if you can someday move to a MIL scope instead of an MOA for PRS, you'll be better off in the long run...No problem running an MOA for now though, just get good converting from MIL calls (what everyone will be speaking) by your team mates to MOA for your use. You should be good with the WB-5 bipod, just practice setting it up on a bench or in prone position to get the elevation right. Schmedium bag is now my go to bag, so you're good there, and you can borrow anyone else's bag at the match. You didn't mention a spotting setup, so you might want to look at a tripod and spotting scope/binocular combo. I still use the less expensive Innorel tripod from Amazon (amzn.to/4iU4zsl), but you can go with a more expensive tripod if you'd like. For spotting, I'd go with binoculars instead of a spotting scope, and any good sub-$1k pair should do for now. Sounds like you're all set! Keep practicing, especially time to acquire the first target (see my video on that) and acquiring the target after movement; those two things alone will save you a ton of time. When you shoot the match, GO SLOW, and focus on impacting targets, not keeping up with your squad mates, and you'll do well. Hope this helps, welcome to PRS, and thanks for watching my friend!

@@The4GunGuyWe arrived at the range later in the afternoon and I knew we'd be losing light quickly. Not only that but it was a high wind warning day with winds up to about 25 mph. Long story short we were both able to hit all the steel targets including the mile. My son was very happy and learned a lot; a great day we'll never forget. The Althon Ares 80mm performed great even long after the sun set. I don't have anything to compare it to but we were able to see the splash easily and some trace even though we were separated by about 30 feet (bitter cold so we traded back and forth to get the wind protection of the van). I've used high end Leica spotters at work long ago and I wouldn't put the Ares in that tier of glass. However, I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars, I wanted a tool to do a job and the Ares did that very well! I'm curious to see what it's capable of in full light properly positioned! Hi Tantrum! I've used this backpack for 7 years now and LOVE it: amzn.to/49Q7huX I've used it for both 3-gun and PRS. It has 3 pistol cases that slide into the bottom part that is surrounded by a hard plastic frame so it can't collapse. For PRS, I removed the pistol cases and store my ammo cases in there. My mags are in the top back pocket, my kestrel, ear protection (Otto), and sunshade are in the top center compartment, and my pens, batteries, DOPE cards are in the top front compartment. It also has two lower side compartments for cleaning supplies and tools. The best part is that it fits perfectly on my buggy. It is the perfect range bag in my opinion. Now, with that said, I'm moving to a larger range bag since I won't be using a buggy at some 2-day matches (hilly terrain), so I need to rethink what I'm going to take with me. Sorry for the long reply and hope this helps. Merry Christmas my friend!

Great shooting tip as always. My only concern is that gripping the vertical prop section will cause the new shooter to "pull" the rifle towards the vertical support and cant the rifle. I know this will have minimal shift at 50yds and maybe not as much at 100yds, but past 100yds, depending on the amount of cant, may make a difference. You can mitigate this with a wide bottom foreend (such as MDT Baker Wings, MPA Side Rails or even Gray Ops Mini Plate Pro for examples from your previous videos!) to increase flat contact surface area from rifle to support bag so your rifle resists "tipping over" when holding/stabilizing against a vertical support structure. I always take 2 deep breaths and let out while moving into position prior to stabilization settling to calm myself. It helps. Then my knees start to shoot stabbing pain to remind me that I am old (LOL)! It goes, with saying, always check your bubble or electronic level as part of any stabilization process. Hi Stevenlee! Agreed that if they don't practice it, they could end up jerking the rifle, but man it's a comfortable and stable position. I just shot a match this past weekend and we had to shoot of cattle gates twice, with targets at 45 - 60 degree angles from each other. I watched shooters struggle with the rifle in the middle of the gate, but when I shot it using this technique, I easily "swiveled" around the vertical support and did really well on both stages. If you practice this, it will help. Also agree with the breathing (I'll do a video on that, thanks for the idea!) and the level checking. Man, thanks for being a faithful follower this year, Merry Christmas to you and let's have a great New Year! - Tony

Any scopes preferably 56mm that you recommend under $1000?
@The4GunGuy
@The4GunGuy 25 күн бұрын
Hi Fishhead! Look at my scope comparison video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqnZiIita72YmMk which should get you some ideas. I have to say, if you're on a real budget, the Discovery Optics scopes are pretty awesome. Optics Planet has a Vortex Strike Eagle for $674 right now with my favorite reticle (EBR-7c), which is a heck of a price and I love the Strike Eagle. Now, the first thing you need to do is go to www.precisionrifleseries.com/ and join ANY membership level (or one you think you may shoot one day like regional centerfire, or rimfire) for like $45/yr, THEN look at the membership rewards page and shop at those vendors. I promise you, a scope you think is out of your price range at say $1300 will be below your $1000 target. I'm going to do a video on this very soon. So many shooters, whether they even intend to shoot PRS or not leave a lot of money on the table by not joining PRS. I get nothing for telling you this, so I'm not promoting something for money here. Hope this helps and thanks for watching my friend!

A food dehydrator works amazingly for drying brass and other small parts. You can often pick one up for next to nothing at Goodwill or a garage sale.

I've got them; they make a great product. However, I've strayed from them to some degree since I started using turret tape.

Be completely honest with me. I’m broke and can’t afford to mess this up. Do you really reccomend the discovery opt rings?
@The4GunGuy
@The4GunGuy Ай бұрын
Hi Hunterjohnson! I would say that if you're going into battle and throwing that rifle around, not taking care of it, then something like a Spuhr would be better. But, for PRS, I firmly believe the Discovery rings are well made, and can withstand the light abuse we give them in PRS competition. Thanks for watching my friend!

How do you clean your triggers?
@The4GunGuy
@The4GunGuy Ай бұрын
I use Bixn' Andy triggers, so I can take them apart (very carefully!) to thoroughly clean them. If you have, say, a TriggerTech, lighter fluid and then compressed air should be good. Thanks for watching my friend!

Excellent quick video to remind us to take care of our gear when exposed to adverse (and sometimes not so adverse) conditions. Did this with my scouting equipment when I was a Scoutmaster and winter and summer camping (always rained during non-winter times). Same for shooting gear and firearms!

This video was an eyeopener, thank you for your honesty. Showing the ammo cost and then calculating in drive time, match fees, rifle purchase, miscellaneous equipment requirements has made me realize I need a sugar daddy or win a lotto. Lol. Research is king and I can see how so many new PRS shooters would dive in by impulse only to realize they cant afford it. Its no wonder why I see so many used guns for sale with limited rounds through their rifles. This includes hunting rifles as well. Everyone wants to be a cool sniper. Best piece of advice was right at the end of the video. Buy a decent 22LR rifle and determine if this sport is right for you. Ammo and rifle are at a reasonable cost and your enjoyment level will meet your expectations.
