am I correct in assuming, that it is not harmful to the eyes, to look at the beam if the beam is directed away from the eyes...and the only danger to ones eyes, is if the beam is directly focused at the eyes or bounces off a reflection directly into the eyes ? For example, viewing the beam, from behind, while directing the beam at the top of a tall tree would not pose any threats/damage to the eyes ?

Worth pointing out that this laser does not require the more expensive Lightburn Fiber / Galvo license as it works with the standard Lightburn functionality we associate with open frame cartesian designs. A great move on the part of Longer as , combined with the laser price, the barrier to entry for a galvo setup is even lower for existing Lightburn fans. @Steve, the one thing I've not been able to ascertain from the various videos I've watched is whether you can laser preview cutting paths or if you only get a workspace outline preview. Please advise. Thanks for the great vid.
@SteveMakesEverything2 күн бұрын
Good point. I didn’t call out the licensing only because this is a diode laser. On you preview question, you definitely can’t outline path like you can with a fiber laser, but you can frame pretty much like any diode laser, though you do need to set the switch to turn the laser one for preview. The red dot laser is used only for focusing.

@SteveMakesEverything3 күн бұрын
Well you really can’t cut acylic with a diode laser. Even with blue tape, once you cut through that, you are essentially trying to cut clear acrylic, and that just isn’t something you can do. You would need a CO2 laser for this.

does it lose accuracy and alignment when you turn that laser module sideways to use the rotary then back?

No is the short answer. When you turn the laser on it always goes to the home position to recalibrate so there's no measurable position change.

There is apparently a 20W module coming, though I have no timeframe. The initial power offering was the first thing I spoke to Wecreat about and I warned them that most KZbinrs would discourage anyone from buying anything less than a 20W laser these days. However it does appear to be more than capable as long as you don't want to chew through 1/2" hardware store plywood.

@@SteveMakesEverything Thank you for your complete answer, as complete as your excellent reviews. I did some Christmas ornaments last year with 3 mm mdf on a 10W laser and they took so much time to cut, they were only 12 and it took me three afternoons to cut all the pieces. Would never use a 10 W machine for that kind of job again, I could not predict if would take me that long, silly me!
@SteveMakesEverything5 күн бұрын
@@Fancylooks Yes, if you're using MDF, some of it is pretty hard to cut - even at 3mm. You must have had the exterior MDF, which is much harder If that's your material of choice then wait for the 20W if you want this laser.
@Fancylooks5 күн бұрын
@@SteveMakesEverything Thank you, I did have no idea about exterior mdf, I just got the mdf that was available at the shop, next time I will ask.
@SteveMakesEverything4 күн бұрын
@@Fancylooks You don't always get told what kind of MDF you're buying, but there are definitely differences in it. I've had 3mm MDF I could barely cut with a 40W laser and then very similar-looking material I could easily cut with a 10W. Once you find one that works, definitely stick with it, but the MDF you buy in a hardware store is typically the worst kind, so try to get it from a place that sells other laser materials. It'll cost a bit more, but is usually much better to work with.

The Falcon 2 40w is perfect for most laser endeavours. You would never actually have to go to 36,000mm/m in any situation so thats not a problem. The focus block wont get lost unless you lose it, and to imply this is outdated is just wrong. It's worked perfectly so far, so why further complicate it with a breakable component. If it aint broke don't fix it. As for engraving, there are many settings available on the falcon to get a perfect result on any surface. If you want a large photorealistic image engraved, it is going to take some time on any machine. The results of the engraving in this video makes the falcon 2 40w look terrible when it's just not the case. Halfing the power and assuming this would fix the initial issue is just stupid. I wouldn't let this put anyone off buying the machine, as it can do everything available to do pretty amazingly. The problem is, if you think you can just plug it in, guess some settings and be talented with it, you will get results like Steve here. Its like playing a guitar, the first time you pick it up you sound terrible. Saying to yourself, 'i used to have one of these', or 'i've used a musical instrument before' doesn't make you good with it either. You actually need to learn and practice to get better. After this, you'll be playing a sweet song. 5 stars from me. The machine can cut thick wood and various metals. It can also engrave colour onto metal which is awesome. And it glides through any balsa wood projects rapidly. It can engrave on almost any surface and is reasonably priced compared to similar machines from competitors. Engraving a name or a date is not the same thing as trying to engrave a realistic photograph. One job takes one minute, the other takes 55 minutes.
@SteveMakesEverything8 күн бұрын
While I certainly wouldn’t call this laser perfect, I t is a decent laser. I wouldn’t underestimate the need to go faster though. At a max speed of 24000mm/m, this laser is massively crippled. Contrary to your claim here, I never guess at settings, but rather have a huge collection of material tests, but on this laser any results over 24000 are capped which there are big limits on what can be done with the 40Watts it has. As noted, it’s a fine laser, but for similar money the Acmer P3 is a far better laser and it can actually run at 36000mm/m giving you a much bigger operating envelope. You may notice that many manufacturers are no longer claiming color engraving. It only works on stainless steel and the color results are unpredictable at best - even running the same job on different parts of the same piece of material can produce different color results. This applies to all diode lasers, not just the Falcon 2 Pro. It’s basically a big gimmick that most companies no longer promote as a feature.
