I respectfully disagree with Chuck on postcards becoming less in demand. One reason and one reason only… We no longer get our pictures developed because they’re all on our phone. Postcards will offset the lack of new supply of photographic images to the market. 📸

Just FYI, used Bolex movie cameras have about a 60% three-month sell-through rate, with about 1/3 of the cameras sold going for over $500 and about 10% of cameras sold going for over $1700. So the catalogue should get some interest.

I found a porno photo tucked between the pages of a book last year.. If I had unwittingly sold that all hell would probably have broken loose. People tuck some crazy stuff into books - definitely a good idea to check pages before you sell

This is something that's always at the back of my mind. It's worrisome when you put so much time and effort into a niche to always be wondering if it's worth it.

I have sold many books, postcards and other items to different movie studios and businesses related to the movie and TV industry which I have assumed they used for props and things like that.

I've seen people selling bootleg records on Whatnot before. Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Beatles, etc,. and they indicate them as being bootleg. Whether or not it's legal to sell on there I'm not sure, but people have done it multiple times in their shows that I've seen.

Clubs are a source for the next generation of collectors who become dealers. My postcard club gets new members regularly, and a good percentage are under 40. We have club cards for sale for 20 cents each and they often start by shopping there, and then discover they like certain topics and spend more money on those as time goes on. Then they find collections and set up a table to sell off duplicates or cards they don’t want, and talk to those of us who sell online, and start to dabble in that as well

I’ve never bought into the “race to the bottom“ argument. If a postcard sells for a dollar, that’s because it’s what a buyer is willing to pay for it. That’s the basic laws of supply and demand. If there is a race to the bottom, then it would be on Whatnot, and not eBay. People use that site to offload a lot of inventory quickly at usually a percentage of what you might get on other sites (though it might take longer).

A lot of resellers I know have children that resell. I took my boys to yard sales, auctions, estate sales when they were young. The oldest wants nothing to do with it. The youngest takes after me and is a collector and sells on eBay. Most days he does better than I do!

We (I’m Tmd1962 and Wife is PengwenBoss on WN) started selling on WN around the same time Papergoy started, listening to Mr Magazine over the last couple years never thought he’d sell on WN. So glad he gave it a chance and is being successful.
