Nice video. My daughter owns a 2010 Cobalt with this engine. Luckily it still runs good with about 135,000 miles on it. A shift solenoid in the transmission went out at the end of last year but she had it fixed. That job was more than I wanted to attempt so she had to take it somewhere for that repair.

Great video. The Escope is very nice. As a DIY'er I can't justify the cost but have watches Bernie Thompson from ATS use one in most of his videos. I do have a set of those clamp chassis ears to use with the scope that goes with my Thinktool Pros scanner. Joe's Auto Electric has magnetic holders that hold the wires if you have to do a test drive with the clamps installed.

I watched a couple videos, but this is the method I used. The only time it would be helpful to remove the battery and box is dealing with the starter wire bracket. Mine was corroded pretty good, so I just took the bracket off the starter and attached it to the new starter. I was doing this mobile, so it was great to know exactly which tools to bring and have the torque specs (not that those are absolutely critical for this job). Thank you!

Great video!! Super helpful. There is a lot of discussion online, and the manual photos you show also indicate what bolts should be replaced. Apparently they may actually be TTY or have some other characteristics that justify replacement. Might be helpful to cover that.

Can someone explain to me the whole point behind taking the entire head off the engine for doing the timing belt and water pump. I just dont understand why you cant just do those parts
@ValleyMobileAutomotive2 күн бұрын
The head does not need to come off to do the timing belt. This car got a new head gasket. The timing components came off for the repair so I made this video out of the larger repair video.

Do I need blue RTV? I got everything back together, poured in the new coolant and it just all leaked out at the housing.
@ValleyMobileAutomotive2 күн бұрын
No rtv should be required. Double check that the thermostat seal is on correctly and fits snuggly on the engine side. Also check the thermostat housing for pitting or an uneven mating surface.

Why not save all that work and just test each sensor with a multimeter? If they make voltage, then they work. Make sure to switch to A/C volts on multimeter because magnets are used in the sensor.

4 quarts is usually enough. Especially if you give her an italian tuneup afterwards. Helps liberate any debris and other stuff. I discovered with my old fluid it was really acrid and I found 2 bugs in the pan afterwards. Bugs probably clogging the valve body.

I have a 2005 Chevy classic. NOT a Malibu Classic. It has the 2.2 ecotec IT IS A 4 cylinder. I can see in this video that this one is a v6. There is limited info on the Chevy classic cause it was not a common vehicle. Although it looks exactly like a Malibu. I am trying to positively locate where the transmission pressure control solenoid is for 2005 Chevy Classic. ? I read that on most of transmissions the pan can be dropped and accessed there. The 04 to 07 Malibu shows access thru the side of the tranny like in this video. Looking for a video for my application. I appreciate the help.

why you don't take last screw to have a knuckle out out on the table? You could have a much more room to access the bearing.
@ValleyMobileAutomotive2 күн бұрын
You're right you can unbolt the ball joint and take the knuckle out completely. That will give you some more room to work with 👍

When you say both sides jacked up at the same time what do you mean ? You mean jacked from center ?
@ValleyMobileAutomotive3 күн бұрын
Using jack stands, lift one side and place the jack stand under it. Then Jack the other side up and put another stand under it so both sides are off the ground. I'm not sure you can lift both sides from the center.

I'm a little terrified right now but also hopeful. I adjusted everything to line up but also made sure to back up the crankshaft 60°. I proceeded to remove the tensioner, tensioner pulley, and then the belt. But before I touched the belt, the back cam slipped and sprung backwards. Really hoping that having turned the crank back, saved me from misery. Almost like the engineers knew it would be under tension.
@ValleyMobileAutomotive3 күн бұрын
That's normal for the back cam to move. No worries 👍
@MattL.-KE0SAW3 күн бұрын
@@ValleyMobileAutomotive I definitely appreciate your reassurance! I've done plenty of my own work over the years but this is the first major engine fix that I've done I'm pretty confident with the rest of the procedure after watching hours of video and researching how to do this job. I heard that the back cam could move I just didn't imagine it would be with such a sudden snap! A little more than I was expecting

How did you get that ac thing off the back 10mm nut on that bottom right side bracket I’m struggling and can’t get a 10mm wrench on it without taking that ac attachment off
@ValleyMobileAutomotive3 күн бұрын
If we're thinking of the same thing that part is the worst. Having a set of flex head ratcheting wrenches to get the nut and stud off and a long pry bar to slide the AC line retainer off the stud.

Jack up the engine on the side you’re working on. Then there’s more room and no need to remove anything from the intake.

I think the same happened to me. 93 ranger and I just replaced the starter battery and alternator. Starter fluid didn't work. I guess it must be the timing chain? Any tips to a diagnosis?
@ValleyMobileAutomotive4 күн бұрын
You should be able to pull a couple bolts from the timing cover and peek inside to see the belt. Also when you try to start it it will sound like there's no compression.
