I just finished the game in November of 2024, and I agree on basically all counts. *1.* Performance is still inexcusable on PC, despite all the (9) patches. Fallen Order ran very well, looked great, and it came out 4 years prior to this game. I can't say I noticed any visual improvements in this game over Fallen Order, yet it runs poorly. Even turning settings down doesn't resolve stuttering and hitching. *2.* Sound design is phenomenal. No notes. *3.* The obstacle courses felt as good as in Fallen Order to me, but Koboh was a huge miss, as was the very limited amount of environments you get to travel to. The game felt a lot smaller than Fallen Order because of that. Koboh has heaps of issues, in my opinion. I love exploring every nook and cranny of levels, so I was routinely let down by encountering hard locked secrets everywhere I went. I just don't find it rewarding to find a secret that I can't interact with, and certainly not back tracking after I've already found it. In addition, the area is supposed to be representing approximately half the planet narratively, but everything is extremely compact in-game. I found it immersion breaking to be told about an enormous, ancient, forgotten facility, only for it to be revealed that it's literally right outside where I'm told this. Like, has no one ever bothered to step outside, or even fly around the area? You'd be able to see it as soon as you enter the atmosphere. Like you said, it very much seems like Koboh was supposed to be many different planets, but for one reason or another, they were lumped together. It's not hard to imagine that the studio was heavily impacted by covid. *4.* The boss encounters were pretty forgettable, and so were the normal enemies. Lots of repeats, and the combat... *5.* ... The combat was mostly a miss. I couldn't exactly tell what felt so wrong until I unlocked the Dual Wield stance that allowed me to cancel an attack with block (just like Sekiro and Fallen Order). As you stated, I can understand the design decision behind making players fully commit to attacks, but the enemies themselves don't seem to be designed around this player limitation. By the time I reached the mid-point of the game, I was just using the Blaster Stance to cheese away at enemies as much as possible, which is a pretty damning thing to say. Regular lightsaber combat didn't feel rewarding, especially vs. large groups of enemies, which there was tons of. The increased amount of stances was super dope, but like you, I felt like they blended into each other too much and weren't expanded upon enough individually. Blaster Stance and Dual Wield were the only ones that altered gameplay. Too much focus on force abilities instead of lightsaber combos and input variation. *6.* The story was also a major letdown, somehow. I didn't particularly care for the Fallen Order plotline. I was happy enough to just go along for the ride, but Jedi Survivor managed to actively annoy me with many plot elements and character writing. The American western frontier theme on Koboh and in the cantina felt ridiculous. Another immersion breaker. Everyone talked in southern accents and all the spaghetti western tropes where there. I also didn't feel comfortable in the fact that, while everything about the wild west was constantly referenced, native Americans were not. Koboh just happened to be conveniently uninhabited before, and the only other people you encounter there were savage raiders (hmm). Star Wars has been influenced by many things, but my god, who decided it was a good idea to go so hard on the wild west theme and reference it so overtly. *7.* Customization was a major highlight for me, and possibly the only thing about Jedi Survivor that felt like a straight up improvement over the previous game. Lots of freedom to customize your Cal, lightsaber and BD-1. Love that. I don't know why they didn't allow us to customize the Mantis again though. All in all, I enjoyed the game for what it was, but I don't feel compelled to 100% it like I did with Fallen Order. The novelty of it being a Star Wars game still made me stick with it.

Since Purity is not available on a NG file until you've beaten the game on at least one file, it's considered an NG+ perk and banned for NG speedruns.

It’s strange how the early 2000’s had peak Star Wars games, the og battlefronts, Empire at war, episode 3 game, Jedi academy, etc, and yet 2010 onward had terrible Star Wars games if any, releases of bf1-2 were heavily criticised and filled with lies from dice and ea, to the point that bf2 ea reached worldwide news and changed the gaming landscape, in a bad way because governments got involved, oh and Jedi outlaws which is just outer worlds at launch. This video is very well made. I personally am excited for Outlaws. And I was getting sick of all the "UBISLOP! UBISOFT BAD" comments everywhere. I saw your video on the home screen, started watching, and just groaned when I saw the explosion clip from IGN. But, you surprised me with a very reasonable take.

Once upon a time in a galaxy far far away, games were made with love. They were an art form. This brought money into the industry, money brought investors, investors brought passionless ceos, ceos brought market research, eventually Ubisoft was born. They deserved to be hated. That being said they seem to be taking risks which is unusual but a good sign. Even Vader came around and turned into a blue guy, maybe Ubisoft wants to take off their life support mask and become blue man too? Maybe Luke skywalkers Ewok buddies can talk to blue Ubisoft man? Blue man good like blue laser sword

The latest gameplay trailer has to be a earlier build, no way that is Gold standard. The one thing I am confused about, is why release a trailer that looks like an older build than the other trailers they released? The gameplay trailer at Ubisoft Next looked 100x more polished and closer to Gold standard!

This is the most refreshing take on Outlaws I’ve seen so far. Everything you mentioned falls right in line with my own opinions. Ubisoft games are indeed the “popcorn movies” of the game industry, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Watch Dogs 2 is one of my favorite Ubisoft titles and Outlaws seems very similar to it in terms of the gameplay.

I get your point, but it hurts the gaming industry. They are trying to normalize mediocre games, and right now, you support that. It used to work like every game was aiming at being 10/10. But you seem to acknowledge that they only aim to make it profitable enough. That is where games stop being creative and interesting and become a checklist and work, no fun. Because of this reason, I cannot accept your point of view. And everyone is so angry and pissed about this game because it is exactly as you describe it. A mediocre Ubisoft shill, not an aim at delivering a milestone Star Wars experience. But. I guess we have to take what's available, and hence why I will be playing this game too. But... Certainly not day 1 for full price, that is! I'll wait until it's at least 40% off, because that is what it's worth at best, as long as there are other games to be played until that happens. That being said, I totally agree with some of your points. Like the empty map one. You truly can't make Tatooine otherwise. It's supposed to be empty, it wouldn't be Tatooine otherweise! Just like you noted. But they still have done an immense job, they are trying to make it look empty enough to deliver the vibe of it, while not making it too empty to be annoying for the complaining guys, who want and need constant action and happening. And if they were to deliver another map full of stuff to do, I'd probably hate it. I really don't need more work while gaming! I started gaming with GTA IV. Open World games used to be what I knew as the only normal game, and I couldn't have it any other way. But... Nowadays when I hear open world I am terrified, especially if it is by Ubisoft!
@binksmagnus4 ай бұрын
I take your meaning and agree to an extent, but Ubisoft was until recently the most valuable video game company in Europe. Activision became one of the giants of the industry largely by putting out another slop COD game every year. Clearly this is already normalized. The time for this sentiment was 2014, I think now it's too late.
@TheMeltedJedi4 ай бұрын
Thats is interesting how you know the worth of the entire game without playing it and seeing very little. Because of this reason, I cannot accept your point of view.
@averageguy95494 ай бұрын
Truthfully the only non mediocre games are console exclusives or if they are made by rockstar. The mainstream gaming devs just don't have that zen from the 2000s to 2010s anymore. We had a good run of outstanding games every year, but the last 5 years have been pretty disappointing. Only a handful of games have stood out from the rest.

I haven't watched the gameplay video before and the intro cutscene made me go check if it's real or not it's so bad. I'm sure it'll be fixed on release it's just funny they even showed that. I watched the rest of it right after and so far the game doesn't seem that bad honestly. My expectation for it is similar to yours where I just hope it's gonna be a fun time and make me feel like I got something decent for my money, Imma just wait for it to be on steam and go on sale so I'm gonna have to wait a bit longer. I really want the game to not suck but I've mostly had bad experiences with Ubisoft games so ultimately I'll keep my expectations low. Also as much as I would love to look forward to the SW Bounty Hunter rerelease because I have never played that game before, I saw it is being made by Aspyr who released the terrible BF Classic Collection. I'm all for giving people and companies a second chance cuz I believe everyone should have the chance to improve, but they apparently used community made mods without asking and upscaled textures with AI without further effort which led to the game being 50gb or something so my hopes are low

01:46 more likely they had some invincibility mode turned on. Otherwise braindead AI is a given for Ubisoft games. My hopes were never high for this, might pick up the "completest" edition when it eventually drops on Steam in a few years.

Funnily enough, this game was made by Ubisoft Massive, developers of The Division 1/2, which had pretty good AI all around, slightly above industry level. Probably due to higher TTK (time to kill) and more time to react
