Thanks for watching. I definitely have more to say about this game that didn't make the cut, mostly just to keep the video under an hour. I really hope everyone had a better experience with the game overall than I did, but I don't know how much I'm going to play it personally in terms of integrating it into my speedrunning and challenge running livestreams. I'll still be covering Jedi: Survivor updates and community achievements, so there will still be videos about it, just not sure about the streams.

Hey binks are you going to make a Speedrun video since the speedruns are pretty cool I just hope this game gets better and maybe they might add more content later down the line since they did that with fallen order but I do agree om the price tag and everything hope you have a nice day👍

outside of the PC performance, i hope they keep supporting this game with updates, QoL stuff, gameplay improvements, content and more to make the game the best it can possibly be since im seeing some Tripke A devs supporting their games with gameplay core improvements instead of waiting for a sequel that usually is pretty unnecesary like whay Id software did with Doom Eternal and what Sonic Team is doing right now.

I really did enjoy my playthrough of the game. I found the story to be more generally interesting, and I was having more fun during both combat and platforming sections due to the new abilities in each field. There’s also tons more side and post game things to do. However, there are definitely some criticisms that I hope are improved upon. The combat, while usually great, struggles to contend with large groups of enemies at a time. There are also a few extended sequences of platforming that go for a WHILE, with only a couple weak enemies breaking them up. Also, yeah, the lightsaber should kill the enemy if you break their posture. The antagonists are also not very present for a large part of the story. I think it’s overall better than JFO, but there’s a lot of missed potential.

honestly its so weird that lower end pcs have less isssues (6600 xt), I played at launch and it seems like I had a lot less issues with the game, no crashes since the first couple patches and performance since patch 5 is pretty solid, at launch I wasn't too bothered with 30-40fps in some areas as someone whos played pc games capped at 30fps like la noire. So yeah if you have a midrange-lower end pc you will probably be just fine if you meet the minimum specs

I actually think its more of an AMD thing than a low range thing. Granted I have no information of low end Nvidia cards but I would be surprised if they beat out higher end cards. I have a 6800xt and 7800x3d and I ran a locked 60fps at 1440p Epic on launch day, and never had any crashes. Even now I get better performance than some people I know with Nvidia cards (4070ti and 3080).

I feel like whatever problems Jedi Survivor is facing is the fault of EA as usual because they always push a game out too early, but you can tell that the actual devs are trying not to go down a Disney route and actually care about their game enough to put things that people would actually like

Very good video. [SPOILER WARNING FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T FINISHED THE GAME YET AND HAPPEN TO READ THIS] I'm glad I didn't experience as many crashes as you did. During my story playthrough I only had 2 crashes and they never happened during important events. Since my pc is pretty much a low end device with a 1660 super, i5 10400F I never expected to play on high settings which is why I mostly played on a mix between lowest and medium settings. The game still looked fine to me and I mostly hit between 50-60 fps, but the state it released in is still inexcusable and I feel bad for everyone who got their experience ruined by the performance. Gameplay wise I prefer this game over fallen order but not by much. Having 5 different stances was nice, but I feel like they could have done much more with each of them. I played with dual wield and double blade, because it was nice that I could as least somewhat cancel animations with dual, although the way cal fights with dual looks a bit stiff and the double blade just felt overall nice to use. It looked fancy and felt a lot stronger to use against groups of enemies outside of just blocking shots compared to fallen order. I just wish we could cancel animations with every stance because a lot of times combat still felt painful and disconnected even with dual stance. I honestly don't know why anyone thought it was a good idea not to let us cancel animations and at the same time have attacks last for over a second with only one input. I don't know if that's just me being bad, but I felt like some enemies were unreasonably stronger than others. I played on jedi master and some mini bosses could still one hit me or at least take 90% of my health with one hit which wasn't fun. I had an easier time fighting actual bosses (except Vader) than mini bosses. Most creature bosses felt like they had unfair hitboxes, dealt too much damage with one hit and had tons of unblockables that they often times just spammed. During my first fight with a rancor I lowered the difficulty to jedi knight and still had attacks deal 70-80% of my health. The immense inconsistency in difficulty made me not want to engage in combat quite a few times. And I get that some enemies are meant to be harder than others, I just think the difficulty gap was too big. Story wise I think survivor is a good game but I understand that a lot of people just aren't that invested in the high republic. Even I wasn't as invested as I probably should've been but I was still interested. Both Rayvis and Dagan felt too underdeveloped throughout the entire game for me to care about them, even tho I tried. Seeing all the characters from fallen order again and how they have changed was really nice to see but it doesn't really go beyond that. The relationship with merrin didn't really make me feel anything and felt kinda fan servicey, greez was just good old greez and cere also felt good to see again but she wasn't too interesting to me either. I was surprised to see cordova cuz in fallen order I assumed he was just dead and then seeing him actually get killed was kinda sad to me. Bode was probably the most interesting character in the game besides cal. I like how he fights side by side with cal, telling him about his life and his daughter, feeling like a true companion and friend, social engineering the sh*t out of cal just to betray him. I was really surprised by it althought him also being a force user on top of that felt kinda too much. The final fight with bode also felt really underwhelming and I expected a lot more from it. I also really enjoyed seeing cals dark side and him kinda abandoning the rules of the jedi. Exploration in this game felt nice and rewarding and I was fine with the environments and planets we got even tho it could always be better and more diverse. Finding collectibles didn't feel tedious and I like that we got the chance to unlock tools that reveal their locations on the map which made finding a few things a lot easier. Sometimes I just coudn't tell if some walls were climbable or if I could wall run on them especially on jedha. While most rewards were fine, I really didn't like that at some point we only get skill points for completing combat challenges, these parcour sections and these force crystal looking things that I totally didn't forget the name of. I really didn't enjoy the parcour challenges. While most of them weren't too difficult, I often had issues with depth perception. Sometimes I just couldn't tell mid air if a platform was close enough to land on or not which led to a lot of frustrating fails. I usually don't mind starting from zero after a fail but these sections just felt bs and weren't fun. Survivor just wasn't made for parcour like this. I don't know if anyone else had this issue but I remapped a few buttons at the very beginning of the game and ended up having not enough buttons to map stuff on so I had to put switching to stance 2 on my keyboard. Overall I still really enjoyed this game and it is in my top 5 games of all time, but the performance needs to be fixed and we need to be able to animation cancel, everything else I mentioned I can look past. Ignoring performance, it's a 9/10

Thank you for sharing this video and providing the summary! Regarding Part 1 of the video: It's important to note that most of the errors encountered are native to the Unreal Engine, which, as a hobby developer, I am familiar with in various contexts. From my perspective, many of the issues seem to be related to Epic Games rather than the "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor" development team. As far as I can tell from a technical standpoint, the game was developed in UE 4.26, which was known to be quite unstable. Projects in versions 4.27.2 and above are generally more stable, but understandably, it's a challenging decision to migrate a project with such significant investments to another UE version. If we look beneath the surface of the frontend (for example, using tools like umodel), I believe some additional cleanup could have been beneficial, but overall, I find the asset management to be well-maintained. There are certainly other projects out there that are in a much worse state.

To be fair I just commented on another review of this game a few days ago saying that I didn’t have any issues with the game on PS5 other than some minor texture popping, which was true. Ironically that same day after work I went home and I’ve gotta say, once I reached the point where I had to rescue a certain character from the raiders, the game fell apart. I’m so close to the end but the graphical errors and performance bugs are ridiculous. Things like falling off of wall run spots, NPCs’ eyes facing upwards above the head of whoever they’re talking to, objects characters are holding clipping through theirs hands and being in the wrong spot, dropping inputs, pyloon’s saloon doors not opening on time, and a handful of hard crashes. Seems to be more noticeable in the late game for sure

I am enjoying my NG+ playthrough because of the new perks you are given, mostly the Purity one which massively increases the damage you deal and receive. The lightsaber becomes utterly lethal with this perk on, to the point bosses are often just one or two hits to defeat, but similarly YOU are just one or two hits to defeat. Gets really nasty with the Warrior perk which changes up the encounters with tougher enemies, so there are lots of times I get defeated by a Purge Sharpshooter way in the back that I don't see because I'm busy dealing with shield troopers and probe droids, so need to change things up when I get back to that area. Try playing with Purity. It won't help with the inability to break out of a combo, but it'll definitely remove the concern of the insta-generating block bar on enemies.

I just finished the game in November of 2024, and I agree on basically all counts. *1.* Performance is still inexcusable on PC, despite all the (9) patches. Fallen Order ran very well, looked great, and it came out 4 years prior to this game. I can't say I noticed any visual improvements in this game over Fallen Order, yet it runs poorly. Even turning settings down doesn't resolve stuttering and hitching. *2.* Sound design is phenomenal. No notes. *3.* The obstacle courses felt as good as in Fallen Order to me, but Koboh was a huge miss, as was the very limited amount of environments you get to travel to. The game felt a lot smaller than Fallen Order because of that. Koboh has heaps of issues, in my opinion. I love exploring every nook and cranny of levels, so I was routinely let down by encountering hard locked secrets everywhere I went. I just don't find it rewarding to find a secret that I can't interact with, and certainly not back tracking after I've already found it. In addition, the area is supposed to be representing approximately half the planet narratively, but everything is extremely compact in-game. I found it immersion breaking to be told about an enormous, ancient, forgotten facility, only for it to be revealed that it's literally right outside where I'm told this. Like, has no one ever bothered to step outside, or even fly around the area? You'd be able to see it as soon as you enter the atmosphere. Like you said, it very much seems like Koboh was supposed to be many different planets, but for one reason or another, they were lumped together. It's not hard to imagine that the studio was heavily impacted by covid. *4.* The boss encounters were pretty forgettable, and so were the normal enemies. Lots of repeats, and the combat... *5.* ... The combat was mostly a miss. I couldn't exactly tell what felt so wrong until I unlocked the Dual Wield stance that allowed me to cancel an attack with block (just like Sekiro and Fallen Order). As you stated, I can understand the design decision behind making players fully commit to attacks, but the enemies themselves don't seem to be designed around this player limitation. By the time I reached the mid-point of the game, I was just using the Blaster Stance to cheese away at enemies as much as possible, which is a pretty damning thing to say. Regular lightsaber combat didn't feel rewarding, especially vs. large groups of enemies, which there was tons of. The increased amount of stances was super dope, but like you, I felt like they blended into each other too much and weren't expanded upon enough individually. Blaster Stance and Dual Wield were the only ones that altered gameplay. Too much focus on force abilities instead of lightsaber combos and input variation. *6.* The story was also a major letdown, somehow. I didn't particularly care for the Fallen Order plotline. I was happy enough to just go along for the ride, but Jedi Survivor managed to actively annoy me with many plot elements and character writing. The American western frontier theme on Koboh and in the cantina felt ridiculous. Another immersion breaker. Everyone talked in southern accents and all the spaghetti western tropes where there. I also didn't feel comfortable in the fact that, while everything about the wild west was constantly referenced, native Americans were not. Koboh just happened to be conveniently uninhabited before, and the only other people you encounter there were savage raiders (hmm). Star Wars has been influenced by many things, but my god, who decided it was a good idea to go so hard on the wild west theme and reference it so overtly. *7.* Customization was a major highlight for me, and possibly the only thing about Jedi Survivor that felt like a straight up improvement over the previous game. Lots of freedom to customize your Cal, lightsaber and BD-1. Love that. I don't know why they didn't allow us to customize the Mantis again though. All in all, I enjoyed the game for what it was, but I don't feel compelled to 100% it like I did with Fallen Order. The novelty of it being a Star Wars game still made me stick with it.

As far as performance goes, I have no complaints. I got this game on PC (running a 4090 & 7950X) and only had 1 crash throughout my playthrough (crash happened right before arriving to Jedah for the first time prior to first patch). Got ~60-90 fps @ 4K with default settings (no RT & vsync off) depending on planet/location. I had very few glitches overall. None that were game-breaking; only 1 graphical glitch where an enemy’s clothes were stretching/warping all over the screen & 1 where an enemy was visually present but the game treated him as he wasn’t there (I believe it was a jet pack stormtrooper). I am a very casual gamer, but in my opinion the gameplay was phenomenal. The quality of fights, platforming, traversal all exceeded Fallen Order. I especially loved the new dual wield stance, ability to lift enemies up & slam down, and dash ability. I thought the story was alright, but not nearly as good as Fallen Order. It had great moments, but I was overall disappointed, especially with the ending. What I thought was great about Fallen Order's story was Cal's character development: finally facing his past, accepting what happened to him, and his journey to overcome it. Survivor did not have that same depth. Good story, but not great. I'd give Fallen Order's story a 9/10 and Survivor's a 5/10.

It was alright for me on pc. Only big problems were around 30-45 fps on coruscant and the large open areas on koboh. Also some less significant ones were texture pop-in and one crash. With the patches, i get around 50-70 fps in the worst areas, but texture pop-in remains.

They added in a power up ability to all the attacks, but didn't bind the power up button to block like everyone else does in the industry. Turning the controller into a hack and slash button mash mess of a layout. If you don’t want to copy God of War controls, then don’t make a combat system that is perfect for the God of War layout. I spent the whole game just begging that someone would make a mod that would let you bind 2 buttons to the same button on the controls so I could have the GoW controls. Clunky mess of a system.

Hello October/September player here. Game works well with performance mode on PS5. A few visual bugs but does not ruin my immersion. I am definitely more forgiving than Mr. KZbinr here tho. Ended up being my fav game of the year, and i played elden ring this year. I was not all that into the story and all of sudden i found myself caring a lot for the characters on screen and was blown away by the third act. I never usually play a game further after I plat it but its so fun im doing new journey+ with the new encounters perk. Great game for those who dont get bothered by small visual bugs (which i rarely would notice or rarely happen when loading new areas). Valid criticism by Mr. KZbinr, but i believe the visual bugs he explained were less present in my playthrough. Also dont sleep on crossguard and blaster stance. Dual wield stance is lowkey bum and very limiting, and the automatic parry option is not as satisfying. Enjoy!

1:04 The game isn't as broken as Cyberpunk? In my experience on PC, the game's issues are SIGNIFICANTLY worse than Cyberpunk. I experienced very few bugs with Cyberpunk and most of them were just visual or could be fixed by loading the last save. Compare that to Jedi Survivor where the crashes are so common that I really didn't know if it would be possible to finish it.
@binksmagnus
@binksmagnus Жыл бұрын
On PC that might be the case, I can’t really say - I played Cyberpunk on a last gen console at launch where problems were significantly worse. By the time I played on PC it was mostly fine. The point of the comparison is the extent to which the game’s problems are distracting players from its best parts, not to do a direct 1:1 of which game ran better.
@befru
@befru Жыл бұрын
@@binksmagnus It seems like PC was the version to play for Cyberpunk, and the consoles are the version to play for Jedi Survivor. The game crashed so often in certain areas that I almost gave up trying to finish it. It would crash about 30 seconds after loading so it was literally impossible to make any progress. Somehow it would work after about 10-15 attempts of restarting the game and I could make it to the next checkpoint. The area that crashed the most was The Archive, which is required to re-visit multiple times in the story, and every time I got close to that area I would have to spend 20 minutes trying to get the game to stop crashing. I think it was caused by a problem with the ray tracing. I didn't try disabling it until after the first patch or 2 were out. With Cyberpunk I just experienced a few graphical glitches that only made the game more entertaining.

No performance issues is certainly not true but I found that turning off chromatics and motion blur etc. and forcing VRR on PS5 certainly helped the overall feel of the game. It changes so much for me personally that if you had to give it a 5/10 before forcing VRR, I would give it a 8.5/10 after VRR. That is how much the feel of the game changed for me. I still had extrem frame drops (and extrem screen tearing) around Koboh's hub area and had that annoying waiting infront of the bar door. And even through the faces on my ps5 playthrough never were as terrible as you have shown, they certainly didn't load probably either. Overall I certainly liked Survivors more than Fallen Order but that just because I'm no speedrunner (I can't see the appeal in replaying a game 100+ times, while shaving time by optimatzing or just breaking the game).

Lots of people said it ran "fine" but no one who said that would ever give me a framerate number. One time someone even said he'd check it and get back to me and he never did, which tells me he probably checked it, realized it was just as bad as mine, and decided not to come back to the conversation because he knew I was right and he just didn't notice it ran poorly. 100% agree with you that people should not say it runs "fine" if they can't tell the difference

the technical part of this game is ruining it for me aswell. on series x, frame drops aplenty, especially during the koboh matter fires. the textures keep swapping in and out of 2 qualities, even during cutscenes ( which probably should have been rendered video) but i have fallen through the map during jumping multiple times, the animations for certain things feel too fast, like it was meant for 30fps but is running at 60 and fucks me up, swinging on the bars and some jumps (the jumping puzzle shattered tear and the wire one was hell). the combat feels less janky than fallen order but after playing elden ring it feels like crap. why is there no jump slashes? and the delay between attacks for the enemies seem non existent so fighting groups is a cluster fuck. and by the time you recover from a staggering hit (not a posture break) you get hit again. and some people recover posture before you can even get a second hit in or between the enemy combos. i feel like the time slow was implemented to fix that issue they created. i also hate certain detail bits that are missing. when zee is stuck in the wires and bode gets her out, he flies off and they dissappear with animating the rescue, and the wires they replace zee are different. then you kill certain bosses and the body is gone. when cal got back to the ship after a boss where cal had a revelation they were sitting in the driver chair, greez asks him to come up front. cutscene ends and everyone is in the kitchen or at the holotable. did nobody play this game? no continuity. i also had the fishing ship and a bush floating in mid air while i was running up the mountain in the desert. also the collectibles seem bad. who was excited about unlocking a new beard. i thought the ponchos wasn't great. no lightsaber colour? no big game hunter trophy at the bar ( heads of all the legendary guys you kill)? why would i run around to collect the priorite and scrolls to get a new beard. thank god we rtx though right?

"You're not allowed to talk about the game's performance if you don't think it was bad" is perhaps the most dogshit opinion I've ever seen anyone give in any review I've ever watched or read. You don't get to just invalidate any opinion that doesn't support your narrative. Different consoles will run things differently for a wide variety of factors including how much the console has been used in the past, the temperature of the room/how well the console is able to cool itself, the quality of materials that the components in the console were built with, and even seemingly irrelevant things like how many games are installed on the SSD. Furthermore, different people have different opinions on what constitutes good performance. For a console, some people may call 30 frames on max settings perfectly fine, and that's a valid opinion since most TVs are only 30 FPS and consoles are typically expected to be connected to TVs. That's not just their filthy casual gamer brain not being to unrefined to appreciate high framerates. Performance issues were not ubiquitous on the PC, contrary to your claim at 2:20. Many people, myself included, were perfectly capable of running the game at--even if not ideal--acceptable framerates. With a 3070 ti and an intel 13600, I was able to get 50-70 frames in outdoor areas and 80-100 in indoor areas on launch day with max settings.

You got awfully triggered by that statement and then wrote a short essay that basically just restates the qualifiers I put on the statement to begin with. If you thought it performed well on console, I’m happy for you. But you’re a fucking moron.

i have trouble investing in these games because i know for a fact that none of these characters survive. cal is never in any of the original movies so i know he dies so why should i give a shit about a walking corpse. thats the main issue with prequels as a whole honestly and i wish star wars would stop relying on them. star wars should be pushing things forward not back. give us a game about rey after the sequels if you want a jedi game or give us a shooter staring fin or an x-wing flight sim staring poe and stop using nostalgia as a crutch to make up for bad writing and planning.

@@justadictatorridingonanuke3714 yeah and we know that NO other jedi make it up to the original trilogy. by the time of episode 6 luke is the last jedi so we know cal and his attempt to restart the jedi fails. odds are in the next game he will be killed by vader and if he isnt then it just confirms that disney hates star wars

@@exilestudios9546Cal’s plan was never to train new Jedi. It was to create a safe haven for Jedi survivors. That can happen with Cal not dying at all. Ahsoka wasn’t in the original trilogy but she was alive and wandering. Same with a few Jedi in legends. It doesn’t mean Cal’s gonna die at all. And confirms that Disney hates Star Wars? That makes absolutely zero sense. How is Disney not killing a character mean they hate Star Wars. By that logic them killing Leia, Luke, and Han meant they love Star Wars. It simply doesn’t make sense

Commenting before the video premiers, but it's definitely not even a contender for best game, even if you exclude all the technical problems. For the most part the game is more of the same from Fallen Order, but with weaker story, weaker villains, mostly pointless side activities and the combat system still struggles when battling more than one enemy at a time.

Yeah, I agree with PreparatorySchool. Aside from I guess pointless side activities (although even what's considered the best game of the year: Zelda, has those) there's no way you could back up the rest of what you said. Esspecially the story. You can have your preference, but this story is so much better that I struggle to compare the two. They're not even in the same league.

@@TommFoolery Yeah. Also I don’t get the argument of “pointless” side activities. They are side activities for a reason. If you don’t want to do them, just don’t do them! There’s also no real way to make them “purposeful.”

I'm not gonna lie, the technical peformance on PC part is a bit misleading. Most of the time you make it sound like it can't run well on PC, while I have had one crash the first day, and litterally NONE of the other issues you're describing. Not joking here: NOT ONE of them. And I don't have a 4090. No obvious texture loading, no objects popping in. I know that it's far from everybody that has that kidn of experience, but it would've been a lot more fair if you described the situations where it does work as well. The only issues I've had are gameplay related decisions that I just don't like, but that's not really an "issue" perse (only for me). When the game works, it's much better than described in that section. For reference, I'm working with a very good PC so ofcourse I understand that for the majority, it may have been as bad as you described, but that's just one side of the story. For reference, I'm running everything maxed, 4K with raytracing on, on a 5950X and 3090. Since you have a 4090 I'd say it's a safe assumption you have a similar or better CPU (because of bottlenecking). It's a good review, but that part was just a little too heavy handed. (and as for the argument of "you probably just don't notice", I'm a 3D rendering artist, so that argument isn't going to work here)

I get the impression that you’re hearing some of my criticisms of PS5’s performance and misremembering what I’m talking about. When I talk about texture loading and pop-in, I’ve moved on to the PS5 performance review. I actually say the PC version looks great, aside from frame drops and screen tearing, and that it’s main issue is wild instability. But even for those things, my intent was only to talk about the issues I’ve had - mostly crashes. Obviously everyone’s PC is different so not everyone will have the same problems, but based on forum threads and Steam reviews that mention these specific issues it’s clear that I’m not the only one. And yeah, as for the “You probably just don’t notice” bit, that’s also very clearly talking about console performance and I stand by it. Anyone saying their console ran it fine doesn't have eyes lol.

Its one of the best games of all time and i have critics. The story ist NOT as good as in fallen order, neither the dungeons. A lack for customizing Mantis. And the terrible stutters.. besides evreything is so genius and pure joy to play, almost a masterpiece!
