Truly my biggest gripe about Fallen Order was the lack of fast travel. They could implement a fast travel feature on the meditation pads where you can rest on them and then fast travel either to your ship (there's a meditation pad on your ship in Fallen Order) or to one you've discovered on that same planet so far. This means on your first visit to a planet, you'll still need to explore it and complete the story path, but these fast travel options will alleviate the annoyance of having to hitchhike back to your ship on a huge planet that's easy to get lost in. It doesn't have to break immersion, just put it in the meditation pads like you did the training simulations post-launch.

Or now that the trailer showed you can tame animals, you could hitch a ride on a giant bird/bat/dragon back to the mantis or any meditation spots that are out in the open
@Otakahunt Жыл бұрын
but that would break some of the story moments, like when you go into the tomb in zeffo and gain force push or something and then come out and the goats outside are replaced by stormtroopers. Then the other story part where when youre coming back from one of the planets youre ambushed by bounty hunters. These would never happen if you can just fast travel back to the ship. Id say just have better shortcuts. The level design was ok but not the best since shortcuts often also required long travels to get to, especially annoying was the ice caves place... getting to and from the venator wreck is a pain in the butt.

Using Republic Commando OST is an immediate like for me My main problems with Fallen Order were the feel of combat, performances issues (PC), lack of fast travel, useless collectibles (and mostly ugly), and certain elements of the story. I'm more a "reflex" guy, when I see the first indication of an attack going my way, I mash the dodge/parry button immediately. Which obviously isn't the right thing to do when it's all about timing. It was frustrating at first and I had to learn to be more patient in my way to apprehend the gameplay. But even doing so, I often felt like the game wasn't really responding to my inputs in the ways I intended them. I often ended up being hit anyway while dodging in ways that felt unfair, or when jumping over attack waves etc etc. Sometimes the parry timing also felt weird, as if it was expected of me to parry so late that I had to basically wait being hit and then parry. It made the overall experience frustrating to me since I felt like that even learning the move set of an enemy wasn't enough, there would be a part of """random""" that sometimes would get in the way. Surely I'm not a pro player/speedrunner & I had never played any "Souls like" game before, but still. Even after taking my time learning how the game worked, I just couldn't get the grip with Fallen Order's combat, at least not to a point of real satisfaction. I was also very disappointed with technical issues. I first tried Fallen Order when it originally came out, back in 2019. Back then I had a good enough PC (1070 GTX + Intel Core i7 + 16gb RAM), but I experienced dramatic frame drops at certain points of the game. And overall, I also had random frame drops here and there, often enough to be annoying and disrupting. Tried to play with every options in low, didn't change a thing. Back then I saw on forums & all people with similar specs to mine, disatisfied with the way the game was running. Felt like I'd wait for a new PC to play again. Which I did. I have today entirely different specs in a new PC (AMD proc + Radeon GC), which is considered high end as of 2022 standards. It. Didn't. Change. A. Thing. Still having the same kind of inexplicable drops. So I took it on myself to endure it and finish the game anyway. Even though it runs smoothly in 1440p 90FPS with high settings, I still experience the same drops I used to have with my old PC. In some locations in the game, the drops are clearly happening in very specific places, I guess when the game is loading the next zone or something like that. But it also happened randomly during gameplay, which makes things difficult & frustrating when you're trying to time a parry or during a jump/slide sequence etc. The drops went as low as 30 fps, so even capping fps at 60 wasn't a "reliable fix". It made the overall experience more painful than necessary, and sometimes infuriating when the drops happen in the middle of combat and you end up taking avoidable damage. Or falling in a jump sequence. The lack of fast travel speaks for itself, it was just boring to roam around a level you've already completed. As said in the video, it's not fun enough to justify its absence. And shortcuts aren't "fast enough". Sometimes the map is also pretty cryptic, it's not always easy to find your way again. You come back to it again and again. Fast travel would alleviate the issue. Almost made me quit the game multiple times. When it comes to collectibles, I was very disappointed in how they looked. Light sabers were fine but the clothes are mostly laughable. Ended up playing a big part of the game without any poncho. It feels like clothes were an afterthought in the project, at this point I would have preferred a greater looking char design without any customization. About the story, my main problem with it is how "fast" it felt. I mean, it feels like the story happens during only 2 or 3 days. Like, Cal runs away from Bracca and in the span of 3 days, found all of his powers back (and then some), mastered his feelings and thoughts, and got the holocron. He went from a hidden Padawan who wasn't training and using the Force, to a Jedi Knight able to fight inquisitors and win, a little bit too fast. I know it is a video game, but if it has to be cannon, I'd like it to be closer to what we know about how long it actually is for most people to become proficient with the force. Obi-Wan winning his fight against a Sith (Maul) as a Padawan was a very rare feat. And that's fucking Obi-Wan Kenobi. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioObpKqLlLSFhNk I'm aware that Cal gets saved multiple times during his fights against the inquisitors, but he still ends up beating them shortly after. Call me a nerd for nitpicking about this, but I like it when a win like that means a lot. It has become too common in the franchise that barely trained force users achieve amazing feats (Hello Rey & Leia) and it makes it loose meaning. Anyway. Also the high speed train sequence in the begining is very cool. Too bad it only happens once, I wish there were more set pieces like that in the game. Overall, not a bad game by any means. But I don't see myself going back to it pretty much ever. So, yeah I hope they'll fix the technical issues when it come to the PC version (I don't know if consoles had similar problems), that's actually the main thing I'm expecting. I can get over being hit when dodging and all, I accept that I'm not pro anyway. But I'd be very disappointed if the game runs in a inconsistent manner again. I also hope for better cosmectics, and a more diversified story.

I think my biggerst issue with Fallen Order is the stim timing, it getting cancelled by every thing and having to wait for BD to throw me one and for Cal to use it so I can get healed, specially on fights that i have little to no time to breathe, cause the enemy have a dash to get cloe so me or a ranged atack.

The gameplay wasn't bad, but it was nothing new or spectacular, it was the story that drew me in and the characters that felt fully fleshed out and relatable. I was more than happy to simply play it through in story mode with no intention to put any more time into it after the story was complete. So for me it was short but served it's purpose.

Something that I have always wanted is a combat system surrounding the 7 lightsaber forms. I don't think that we could expect 7 different combo chains, but I think choosing a form, receiving passives and hindrances and maybe some different animations is doable. An example is how form 2 makes one on one duels easier, which could translate to making parry windows larger, increasing posture damage or increasing damage against posture broken enemies. They could make blaster deflections harder and hinder abilities that deal with groups. Form 6 is used to focus on force abilities over leaning on your lightsaber. This could be the only form to passively Regen force power, make them cheaper or something else. Possibly decrease posture damage or health damage output. Another interesting system that would be interesting could be a passive and active force perk system. Imagine the chip system in Nier Automata, where some chips require more energy. Imagine a system where your force connection is like that energy bar, and you can take certain passives and active abilities+ modifiers that make up your increasing force connection. I found it odd how much difference there was between normal attacks and the force imbued lightsaber attacks. I get there is stuff like force speed, but still. Finally an interesting showing of progression could be to change the type of game it is based off. Dark souls inspired games try to make the combat more grounded* where any foe can kill you if you don't respect it. Which makes sense for a Padawan, but after the last game and training, Cal should be like a knight and so if the game choose a different inspiration, like DMC, that would be an interesting way to represent that. An interesting idea is to take DMC5's Virgil concentration meter and take it to star wars. The light side requires focus where the dark side requires passion. I could see the game make you go down a dark side path if you go wild and less focused by getting hit. Staying centered by deflecting everything could lead to staying in light side. Maybe having the power of a DMC character is not equal to a Jedi knight and more akin to that of a Jedi master. It's an idea for later? Just some of the nerdiest thoughts imaginable.

Fallen Orders parry timings are also a bit weird They seem to be a decent bit earlier than "as the strike comes in", which means you can't really instinctively parry them like you can in sekiro

On JGM I always felt like the parry window was way smaller than Sekiro, which was surprisingly really forgiving, but didn't really have your experience I guess.
@atharvavadeyar5157 Жыл бұрын
@@binksmagnus ime it wasn't the actual size of the window just when it starts and ends in the animation I only really noticed because I was doing a playthrough of sekiro along side JFO It was much easier to ditch the "learned" timings in sekiro and just go on pure instinct than it was on JFO (in my opinion because of the placement of the parry window)
@whatever3912-h7e Жыл бұрын
Yeah, and there is also an issue with what happens after the window ends. In Sekiro the parry window is always accompanied by a much larger block window that is after the parry window, so you aren't punished so hard for parrying to early. In Fallen Order parry window is early and there is no safety net, after missing a parry you can't really try to start parrying the rest of the combo like you did in Sekiro, In my opinion moving the parry window later and adding a block window after the parry window would greatly benefit FO and incentive learning how to parry consistently. I really liked the game but it really is "Sekiro but worse". Although being like Sekiro is fine, Sekiro is a masterpiece.

If anything it sets the game apart from those other star wars games it makes you feel alone the only interaction cal has is with greez and cere and all the people trying to kill you. Now for the sequel I'd agree cal isn't exactly running away or surviving so it makes way more sense in that way.

Indeed I would love a way to play passively in the game with mind trick and calm animals, for a game that didn't want to focus on dark side powers they did lean a lot into aggressive gameplay with killing giving your force back and XP, feels more Sith then Jedi. Also a way to continue combos when dealing with bosses would keep combat flowing nicely and feel just like how we see it in the movies. Good ideas, but please no RPG gear stuff. Cosmetics were basic, but better than the mass of God of War armours and shit in the new games compared to old. I want to keep this a Souls-like more reliant on skill growth and consistency in opposition abilities, I don't want to go anywhere near having to level gate areas or worlds when I'm leaning more to opening up choices in paths like the Zeffo/Dathomir choice alludes to. Maybe exploration could lead to more skill points, or you could have a blueprint/upgrade system a bit like Dead Space but limited to those specific upgrades to tools being on a different system to force ability upgrades you get from XP levels, like faster blaster cooldowns, faster BD-1 utils like stim speed and storage that we already had in the first game, maybe some lightsaber tweaks that affect your movesets in small ways that adjust damage speed and posture.

I really don't want a major stat system, the one in this game is already good enough. With points you can increase your damage and health, through progression you gain abilities, and that's enough. A complicated stat system will make the game a math game and way less skill based. I don't want enemies to interrupt executions either. In real combat scenario a soldier will not be locked in some animation and can't defend himself, execution is a game thing and should remain this way. The aspect I most want improved is the delay between when you press the button and when Cal actually reacts. Sometimes I feel I have quick reflexes but the game doesn't care, I have to "predict" when the enemy attacks.
@victorperezurbano9504 Жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree. It is so tiresome to having to focus on builds and specialization like in elden ring kind of games. There were parts of the game that also felt completely unfinished to me - some of the map designs (chiefly dathomir and kashyyyk) just felt like they were rushed and didn’t make all that much sense to leave as they were. They were still playable so it was fine, but essentially as far as I’m concerned they can do whatever they like with survivor, so long as it plays smooth and feels just a little better to play than fallen order did.

Sekiro is perhaps one of my favourite games, and Fallen Order never quite clicked the same way with me (not that I didn't enjoy it). I could never quite figure out why but hearing you explain it makes it very clear to me, it is the fact that breaking posture only gives you a free hit instead of killing the enemy (or for bosses giving a big chunk of damage like Elden Ring or God of War does). It would also deal with one of the big criticisms I see Star Wars fans level at the game, that your lightsaber feels more like a baseball bat than a laser sword that can cut through nearly anything.
@TheACMJS Жыл бұрын
I think the reason the devs didn't go for an RPG stat system is because they wanted everyone to be happy with the way Cal looked (ponchos) and for players to customize their lightsabers to their hearts content. That being said, I believe a majority of fans have requested more customization. If they did switch to a stat system, I think they should make it to where any piece of armament or tech could be visually replaced with whatever other piece. This way going after chests isn't just for cosmetics, players can customize Cal how they want. On top of that I don't think people asking for a fast travel system don't appreciate the levels. It's just tedious for players who want to collect everything have to retread the same ground multiple times just to get to one area.

Yeah, that’s intended. In the 100% speedrun we just do the trickshot, and it looks cool so I always do it.

I really like what you propose with the posture meter akin to Sekiro. I think JFO already did a mostly great job when balancing realistic lightsaber damage while still be challenging, but with a more nuanced posture bar, it can still take time to beat an enemy without nerfing the lightsaber. When it comes to stats and more RPG mechanics, idk, I´m going to be the type of adventure game player that has to say they don´t want that. What they could do to spice up the rewards for exploration, without going all the way with a stat system, is maybe getting perks out of certain lightsaber parts or clothe combination. Like getting an extra stim for using X lightsaber crystal with Y hilt, or an extra Force gain when dodging with X poncho combined with outfit Y. No need of statitistics or levels while still affecting gameplay through customization.

i dont care about anything else but the combat system, "sekiro´s dumb cousin" is what ive been calling this game since it came out, story wise is a nonsense (for each jedi that manages to survive that long after order 66 with the empire knowing about them i get more bugged, and i was already bugged enough with ahsoka meeting luke) character wise ..... is funny that a just remember kal and ... "merin" was it?? idk XD, i couldnt give two shits about anyone else there.

@kharijordan6426 Жыл бұрын
It would be cool if every enemies had a dodging mechanic well you have to wait until they attack to swing your lightsaber to cut off something just put them in a stagger state which then you can hit them again to permanently kill them. Super weak small enemies kill you be hit once. Medium enemies twice. Minnie bosses 4 or four and bosses haft to be taken out breaking there focus and posture witch goes down like a health bar. Ok enemies do not have posture bars. I think this leaves room for creativity on enemy attacks and behavior.

Its my first time playing the game now, i've been putting off new games to focus on older ones for abit, so i am having that trouble with parrying i've never played the other game nor dark souls (my one attempt trying to get ds1 working on pc a few years ago failed) So i'm dodging a lot and noticing it doesn't really help i've started on master i have some moderate skill i wouldn't say i'm that good.. takes a few deaths to learn enemy timings for me, my biggest issue is that sometimes its a long path to run back to these encounters. I shall try parrying more though on your advice maybe if i can engage with it like you say it'll help for the final bosses and feeling abit better right now encounters with purge troopers i just try to cheese around till i can get a 1v1 and it feels a little painful.

i loved this game when i originally played it, but i was an idiot kid back then that sucked at the combat and when i play it now it’s honestly quite bland. i really hope they improve the posture system in the sequel

They could implement a type of Ai that learns from how you approach combat. Much like how the Alien in Alien Isolation learns as you progress through the game making each encounter a bit different as it learns your tricks, so you have to change it up to escape being killed by it. In this game spam one attack too much or become too predictable and the ai will adapt to parry your attacks. Also, I wish they would abandon the BS of lightsabers don't cut through people is a bunch of BS Disney put down on the franchise and Fallen Order as well. They need to have a system similar to The Force Unleashed games where attacks will damage the targets armor causing it to fall off and in some cases cause dismemberment.

14:57 Wait the Bounty Hunters despawn if they kill you? I don’t think I ever lost to any of the Bounty Hunters but what kind of garbage is that? That completely defeats the purpose of the respawn mechanic
@binksmagnus Жыл бұрын
Yep. You get back to where you died and your Souls/XP/Whatever is just sitting on the ground, you interact with it and get them back.
@didier1243 Жыл бұрын
Stats to me never feel good, I hope they don’t go that rout. Do I have the best this or the best that? And then you don’t enjoy the game cause your looting. Having abilities interact with each other seems like a much better idea to me.
@richardwilliams5387 Жыл бұрын
You start by saying you like the game but refer to it as "Sekiro, if it sucked"?! Saying it's not as "good" as another game is one thing, but that phrasing kind of implied this one "sucks"...
@binksmagnus Жыл бұрын
Fair enough. I don't mean to say the combat as a whole sucks, and "...if Sekiro sucks" is mostly a joke. I think the combat as a whole is good, and say as much, but it's similar enough to Sekiro to warrant comparison and outclassed in almost every way within that comparison. Still love it though. Wouldn't have spent hundreds of hours speedrunning it otherwise. The soundtrack, characters, level design, art, etc. all make it rise above its flaws.

32:10 Atreus is useless. Late game you can’t even tell his arrows are doing anything except for when the game forces you to use him like with the witches

What game were you playing? He's a significant portion of your endgame damage if utilized effectively, especially against enemies who completely control the flow of their encounter (like Valkyries.)
@ingolf82 Жыл бұрын
I prefer the combat style of Jedi knight: Jedi academy over any other, although, you can completely cheese the game after getting the second lightsaber by picking a double lightsaber (Darth Maul style) and simply crouching while spinning your lightsaber around, no enemy can defeat you while doing this and you maw everyone down easily. but while crouching, you walk slightly slower. I haven't tried it on master mode though.
@firstnamelastname9237 Жыл бұрын
I agree. It just felt more natural than that weird refusal to stop moving when attacking that fallen order does. Though your tactic is a completely new one to me and now I absolutely need to try it
@kadenstimpson3167 Жыл бұрын
That tactic works well, but could easily be balanced out of a more modern game. I loved the strong focus on attacking with precise angles and timing with less of a focus on defense, instead basing everything off of movement. It really forces you to be conscious of your environment and to use it to your advantage.
@pidgeonmeat2735 Жыл бұрын
I agree on every point but the stat based RPG progression. No one wants to hit someone with their lightsaber and realize it didn’t do lightsaber damage because it was under leveled for the planet they were on. Great vid!! but that idea in particular is dog shit and doesn’t belong in a game like this. (Just my opinion)
@kpag3030 Жыл бұрын
The damage doesn’t match the weapon for sure. I’d like to see some change to this that makes sense without taking away the fun and the challenge. It’s like spider-man… he can pick up a car and throw it, but it takes 5 punches and a head kick to take down a regular ass human with no armor or special abilities? Yeah it would be boring to one hit kill every enemy, but it breaks immersion for me a bit. The combat is fun but too unrealistic for the character. Would make more sense for Batman or captain America or something.
