Do the flat verea tiles hold up to walking a bit better than the s tiles?

@@leo959 The acrylic stuff can go on the roof, it won't hurt it. It just won't help if you have a roof leak. If you have leaks in your house, the structure has already failed and needs cut out and replaced, you can't just coat on top of it. That's like putting a bandaid on a broken leg.

Thank you so much for this video. We are in Tucson, AZ. We are doing research as to what type of metal roof to install on our mobile home. What would be the temperature difference after removing the asphalt shingles and installing a stone coated metal roof like this one directly to the deck? Obviously, having an underlayment of insulation boards would help with temperature control, but is it necessary or worth the 10K (?) additional cost of an already 21k metal install cost? Thanks again.

It's hard to know, but it will also depend on the SRI of the shingles vs. the metal. Solar Reflectivity Index is available for most colors of both materials.

Thank you so much for your videos. I wish you guys had a division in Southern California. I have a fond memory for metal roofs. My grand father built his home in Jalisco Guadalajara in a location that's was not populated and he put metal roofing back around 1930. When we visited during the summer they would get thunder and lightning storms and the rain would just pour. I remember falling asleep to the "TING TING TING! " At first it was fighting especially when it poured but when they had mild to light rain it was pretty soothing. We definitely knew when rain started as we'd hear the sound of any little droplet immediately. My uncle (his first born) now lives there with my aunt and some of this kids. That roof is till there and no leaks. Ever. He did build it on his very own. This was common in Mexico still up till about the early. 1940s. Exterior doors are metal too as most Mexican home doors are. Same original doors put in by my grandfather.

They use concrete tiles in bermuda but they seal them and concrete over them... are these roofs displayed incomplete? Wouldn't a bermuda style roof be superior to clay tiles once it's sealed?
@perkinsroofingcorp
@perkinsroofingcorp 16 күн бұрын
No, this is the way Florida Building Code wants you to install concrete tile roofs. True Bermuda style you still have to re-coat, you don't need tiles, you can just have a sloped concrete slab as your roof and you protect it from water permeation with waterproofing products.
@perkinsroofingcorp
@perkinsroofingcorp 16 күн бұрын
It's not really better, but it's built to be re-sealed and that will last longer because you can keep re-applying sealants. The homes here are generally built with plywood decks, not concrete. Anything concrete is better.
@MehrdadMK-vf9pu
@MehrdadMK-vf9pu 19 күн бұрын
Im sorry but I think you’re wrong. The purpose of coating the roof isn’t sealing, if you have a leak you cannot go with coating and you must patch and seal the leak in another way. The point of coating is to lock the granules in their place and don’t let them fall off. With that roof gets a longer life span. Also shingles are not the breathing path for the structure in the attic or so, there’s a specific ventilation for that purpose, shingles or tiles are not for that whether they have coating on them or not don’t matter.

Question. Would a standing seam metal roof be more capatable with a full Tesla solar roof vs any of the tile options?
@perkinsroofingcorp
@perkinsroofingcorp Ай бұрын
The Tesla roofs are designed to be their own roof, or do you just have Tesla panels? Metal is always better, because the panels clip to the seams and do not penetrate into the actual roof... thus way less likely to leak.
@elmerkilred159
@elmerkilred159 Ай бұрын
Most ceramic tiles are impermeable anyway. They have a specific impermeability rating of 3% or less that close the pores, and a ceramic tile that is fired with a glaze virtually has no porosity, This means you need zero coatings. Coatings for composition might be okay, but you still risk "vapor lock," with a coating. I'm guessing that if you did have roof coatings that a prevention of vapor lock would be to install ceiling vapor barrier, and venting to mitigate the vapor.

tile absorbs moisture, shake roofs don't. there's a difference which you can seal. i also doubt these moisture issues were due to the sealant, more likely no attic ventilation.

Naw, roofs all have a shelf-life regardless. Trying to push the envelope only causes more structural damage, especially when you are trapping moisture into the attic space of the home. Nothing like having to re-fly trusses because you molded out your own home. Talk about expensive.
