Many thanks for taking the time to record the restoration process!! both videos are great!! A quick question. When playing tapes the play speed is slow. Belts need to be changed? I cleaned everything like the video. Firts try it played great, then started to play slow. Any help will be much appreciated!
@restoration-RC-Studio15 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question. Lower speeds are most common if the belt is too small. It must have minimum tension. It must not stop immediately when the hand is turned. It has to continue turning a little more. You can adjust the speed by adjusting the speed There is a round hole at the back of the motor with a rubber. It is cut in a cross. Take a small screwdriver and feel the regulator until you feel it. This way you can adjust the speed. But first the belts must be the right length.

Hi, that worked. Can I ask what to do for future updates? I have kept a full backup of the original Garmin software, do I have to re-load that and do the same again, or is there a shortcut method?

Good question. I haven't tried it, as I don't have a motorbike and no sat nav. I have been doing navigation for many years, helping other users. I recently discovered this method, so there was no opportunity to update again. But I think it is not a problem to use this method as well. 😊

I have one - found it on a street corner after someone threw it out. Wondering what power adapter to use with it? It doesn't have the original and I'd hate to run it off batteries. Should I buy one of those 9v adapters they use for music pedals? Is it a "standard" port? I'd appreciate a link to order something compatible

Great job! I just got the RX FM 25 and it sound incredible and I think it’s was the replacement for the RX FM 15. Also I think when Panasonic started the Ambiance sound technology. I just saw this RX 15 with the tape not working and at a great price and thinking to adding to my collection that o just started. Yesterday I got a RX -C45 off eBay for under a hundred with shipping and watched a few videos on KZbin and sounded great for a small boombox. It also see like a very popular mini boombox and many being sold on eBay. Anyway, keep up the great work and saving these great boomboxes from the past. Many ended up being thrown out when they stopped working and ppl. just bought the newer model back then.

Hello. Thank you for your question. I haven't repaired the fm-16 model, but visually I don't think there is much difference. The problem with the audio cassette mechanism is probably the belts that are fraying. Since the system is autoreverse, it's not completely straightforward, but the belt pajeisti shouldn't be much of a problem. The important thing is not to rush and damage something. Good luck 😊
@jacknjill30002 ай бұрын
Ok and thanks for your response. I did get a FM 27 off eBay for cheap, but the volume slider was not working and you couldn’t turn the volume down or up. So bc the seller didn’t mention this issue with the volume control, I’m gonna send it back and they have a return policy. I’m sure it’s an easy fox, but also the sound was sometimes coming from one speaker and not the other, Out of all these Panasonic auto reverse mini boomboxes, the FM 27 seems to be the most common and they’re a bunch listed on eBay. I also like the FM 40 and the FM 45 and they look more beefy and I hear it weighs 8lbs.

I just got one off eBay and the radio works and the tape not working. I just hope it’s going to be not that hard to fix with little knowledge and little tools. I mean I want the boombox to last and I don’t want to be the one to kill it and make worse. I also found out bc I had one of these back when it was new and couldn’t remember the model model. So I thought it was this model. But it turned out to be the previous model RX FM 16. Now I’m wondering witch model is better and what’s different btwn them.
@jacknjill30003 ай бұрын
I just bought one off eBay with the tape part not working. So I’m trying to figure out when I get it in how to possibly fix this common problem with vintage boomboxes and take players, Also, I was trying to replace the one I had and thought it was the FM 27, but then I saw a FM 16 and that one look more like the one I had and I guess was the earlier model. Anyway, thanks for posting and keeping these great machines another life and preserving them also.

Also, it’s too bad electronics repair shop and tv repair shops mostly went out of business. Bc back in the days, you didn’t have to try to fix on your own and took to them. Also the disposable era also made it easy to just get rid of the old and buy a new one. Look at all the vacuum cleaners and microwaves you see thrown out on the sidewalk

I love this radio by Sanyo and I know they make great boomboxes and had the M9994 when I was a teen in 79. I also used to be able to hookup a turntable bc it had a phono input and pre amp. I remember buying a Sony boombox in the mid 80’s and thought all boomboxes you could plug a turntable and the volume was very low and I was puzzled why it wouldn’t run a turntable and found out much later that you needed a pre amp. I just saw that Sanyo M9994 going for one for almost $1k and Jen in better condition going for $3k. Back when I was a teen, I only knew one person with the same radio bc it costed about $280. In 1979 and a lot of money for kid and even for adults. It’s considered one of the top 10 boomboxes from the 80’s now and highly collectible. I want to buy this same model and at fist looking at the single tape version and came across this model on eBay today. Most of these radios the tape needs to be fixed and I wish changing turn belt was like changing the battery or needle on a turntable and not to take apart, But thanks for showing us how to repair these and I will look at this video after I type. So I only watched the beginning and you just bought this model and it needed to be fixed ? Bc when you first opened the package and were testing, I thought it was fixed and you just got it back from having it repaired. Yeah, I need to be more patient and write after watching,
@jacknjill30003 ай бұрын
The other model I love is the single Sanyo M 7700 with the 2 antennas. Also, the 6 speaker dual Sanyo MW800. Wow, there’s so many wires inside this unit and like looking inside a modern car engine and complex. So after getting the radio and playing with it, you found things wrong with your new radio and started working in right away? Just wondering bc did you already know something was wrong with this radio before buying or you just wanted to check out ? One thing I hate when working on a new radio or aidio equipment is taking it apart bc I don’t know how they snap open and hate to break or chip something. I like to keep all my items as the same condition and even used and don’t want to be the person to break these vintage radios, also many of these vintage radios the plastic is brittle and crack easy, even have to be more careful when shipping . About 2 years ago I sold a Sanyo M9994 and packed it very well and it weighed like 25 lbs. Even qrappoa bath towel around it after bobble wrapping and the buyer said there was something missing a screw on the body and bc of that, it and a small crack. They also throw those around like a basketball at the USPS and don’t put much care.

Also , I’m glad this one has a gray back and a saw another Sanyo model tyat had a white back and many are now yellow. Glad you’re restoring these great machines from the past and giving them a new life,
@jacknjill30003 ай бұрын
Also many of these the chrome buttons get oxidized when exposed to water and moisture. I did see a Sanyo mini boombox that was yellow color and called “Outdoors” and looks really cool.

So the trick is to buy these vintage units cheap bc they usually need a lot of work?
